@@davidlicea9192 the worst part is realizing that it worked the first time. Literally the only difference between the fights is that Nunes went southpaw for the rematch and was able to avoid Penes ducking jab.
Whenever you question weather or not something would work in women’s MMA just remember that the head and arm throw still works.
@@spweman It didn't work the first time. Nunes was rolling over Pena the first fight, the first round was a tipical Nunes x anyone round, then on the second round Nunes was sudenly dead tired, probably because she had Covid one month before the fight, and could barely move. Like Nunes, who everyone knows is a woman with disproportional strength and power for her weight class, was trading blows openly with Pena and her punches were dealing less damage than Pena's, that speaks volumes to how much Nunes was in a terrible physical condition on that first fight. The southpaw thing on the second fight was nice and all, but the truth of the matter was simply that Nunes wasn't super debilitated anymore and would beat Pena easilly anyway.
@@DakonBlackblade2 sure being sick and still recovering was a contributing factor to her being tired, there is still the fact that Nunes was getting jabbed up by Penne because of her technique. The ducking jab was something that worked in the rematch when Nunes went back to Orthodox out of habit. Amanda Nunes absolutely deserves credit for coming back and steamrolling Penne the way she did. But that does not change the fact that Pennes simple technique of throwing a jab and moving her head down and off the centre line, worked tremendously in hurting Nunes and securing the victory in the first fight. Nunes in the second fight while beating Penne soundly, got hit by the same technique from the first fight, only when she went back to orthodox.
That’s not a minor detail. It’s a huge glaring flaw in her game.

I was dissatisfied with the 'closure'. It was a legal shot, I guess, but it was still with the knuckle. It's a weird way to land a hook, perhaps even accidental, and therefore it's unfortunate that it ended that way. I wouldn't usually call for a 5th fight between anyone, and it may even be that people are tired of it now, but it's worth bearing in mind that the title has changed hands each time they have fought (aside from the 1st fight), and so neither has actually defended the belt against the other. Therefore, it doesn't feel definitive to me that Moreno is the better of the two. Perhaps they could keep fighting forever though and it would never be definitive. Still, I didn't like the ending. It was an anti-climax and that's not how it should be.
@@craigr4763 Yeah the last fight ended bad with the doctor stoppage, but before that happened it was another excellent installment in the Moreno v Figueredo saga. 👏
@@craigr4763I honestly hate that rule about one of your eyes being swollen shut that the fight just ends. You don’t need both eyes to be able to see and fight Michael Bisping proved that. They are also so inconsistent with the rule too because Eddie Alvarez’s eye was swollen shut against Melendez and that fight wasn’t stopped

@@danielcorrea1905 It sucks as a fan but at the end of the day their job is to keep the fighters safe. I think it was the right call, if Moreno went on to win people would argue its because Figueredo could only see out one eye, can't please everyone.
DC has got to be the most salty after losing when it comes to MMA in general. Dude tried to pull his mouth guard out and he got mad. It's like when he cried after jon jones.. When they went to raise Jon's hand DC pushes the ref and walks away cause he was trying to hold his hand.

Amanda getting her belt back was the ONLY example I can think of in decades of watching this sport where a champion lost their belt, blamed it on "health" (covid) and looked horrible in that fight, only to come back and reclaim the belt in tip-top form, thus validating her "excuse" and showing the world that that loss truly was a fluke.

Nunes definetly shouldn't. She should not have fought, she was debilitated from her Covid infection 1 month prior to the fight. That was very evident when she was completly gassed out on the second round of her title loss.

That adjustment stipe made in the Cormeir 2 fight might very well be the best adjustments mid fight anybody has ever made. They legit won him that title back. Heavyweight goat
None of these made me happier than stipe getting his belt back and Brandon Moreno getting his back. By far two of the most likable dudes in the sport and stipe solidified himself as the heavy weight goat with his two wins over DC following the first fight. And he's a first responder so how can you not love him.

I never understood why more fighters don't throw knees to the body when they're in Side-Control. People eat elbows, but no one eats knees, except Rampage.
There are a good few examples of how effective they are, I think ab this a lot too!
To knee you have to pull your body off theirs. Youre giving them space to explode and escape the side control. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesnt.
If your opponent is tired it would be good but if it's at the start where he/she has energy it ain't gonna work
But yeah it would definitely be effective in later rounds they should do it more

Think it's bc if you load up on them, it's not hard for the bottom fighter to see it coming. Serra was turtling up with his hands over his head so it was easy for GSP to do. Doubt Serra would have copped those strikes if he was in traditional side control with his back to the mat, too easy to block the strike or change position esp for a BJJ guy like him
