    • Carrier Landing Clinic...
    This is a "pinky" or sunset recovery aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), somewhere in the Arabian Gulf. You will see me pass overhead the ship three times.
    At time 0:14, I am in low holding (point 1) at angels three, waiting for my turn to recover. After the aircraft holding below me vacate their altitudes, I can follow them down to the overhead.
    At time 2:30, I enter the spin pattern. My interval boltered, was past the bow, and had yet turn downwind, so I spun it for the overhead.
    At time 4:12, I broke on my interval. Only the tanker trapped behind me.
    Time to get some grub before the night page. All in a day's work. I'm just happy to be here.
    Fly Navy!

    The amount of room on the flight deck now is pretty amazing. I was a cat checker in RVAH-12 working with RA-5C Vigilantes on the Independence, Constellation, and Enterprise. Everything I remember was cramped because so many different types of aircraft were onboard. I saw VF-1 and VF-2 in their first operational cruise with F-14s in 1974 onboard the Enterprise. Those planes were jaw-dropping amazing compared to those big Vigilantes I worked on. I left the Navy at the end of my enlistment in November, 1974. I have always credited my successes in adult life to the opportunities for improving myself and the lessons learned while in the Navy. Those four years completely changed the trajectory of my life for the better. Keep up the great video work. No horseplay on the flight deck. Thank you for being out there for us. #flynavy #usnavy

    Im from the 60's in the Boston area, I'm so fortunate to have my freedoms because of guys like this, my uncle flew the phantom F4 in Vietnam, he'd come home some holidays in the late 60's and I was 8 or 9 and I'd ask him all kinds of questions, I was in awe, I'm 62 and still in awe of our military, I literally owe my life to all servicemen and women who commit themselves to defending our country. Thank you to all of you.🙏🇺🇸

    • @Norman_Peterson
      @Norman_Peterson Рік тому

      No one has tried to take your freedom away from you, and it certainly wasn't "guys like this" who protected your home.
      Guys like this, let's remember, drop bombs on civilians.
      Your freedom NO ONE has ever tried to take it away from you, think about it.
      It is you more than anything else, who have gone to take away the freedom of others in other countries, only to take their resources by inventing bullshit as "weapons of mass destruction", by inventing wars.
      Your freedom is also TOO MANY, because it is the freedom to attack other peoples just to steal their resources.
      In Vietnam NO ONE attacked you, it was YOU, against the will of your own people, who went to war. To destroy an entire generation of young Americans. And those who opposed it were beaten. Your freedom is just an illusion.
      It is one thing to have PASSION FOR AIRPLANES AND ENGINEERING, another thing is to admire a guy, who drops bombs on civilians if necessary. Fuck your freedom, your freedom it is stained with the blood of other civilians, women and children. As EU member i say this.

    • @yxeaviationphotog
      @yxeaviationphotog Рік тому +2

      @@skybirdnomad I'd wager taxiing would be a bit easier, as you're under the direction of a yellow shirt. Landing is almost always going to be one of the tougher aspects....especially at night, bad weather and pitching deck......or all three at once.

    • @EScott-zx2gs
      @EScott-zx2gs Рік тому +2

      only job on earth more difficult or dangerous than what you see happening on the flight deck is doing the same job, carrier flight ops, at night with zero illumination while the deck is pitching 10+ feet. Aircraft are stacked from just above the water to the space station waiting to attempt to trap but everyone is a continuous bolter that more Aircraft are having to launch on refueler missions to keep the other Aircraft flying.

    • @yxeaviationphotog
      @yxeaviationphotog Рік тому +1

      @@EScott-zx2gs That PBS series "Carrier" showed this exact scenario...... can't begin to imagine the stress/tension level..... especially if you have to launch as a recovery tanker, because other aircraft have been boltering so many times, knowing you'll have to come back and do the same thing.....and you're probably the last one to come aboard. Naval aviation has always fascinated me.....both the flying and working on the flight deck.

    • @EScott-zx2gs
      @EScott-zx2gs Рік тому +2

      @@yxeaviationphotog it happens more often than most prob realize. As long as an aircraft takes the cat shot when the bow is rising and not falling it will be fine and won't need to worry about being shot off the deck and straight into the water. Getting aircraft off deck isn't that tough. It's the final part of the evolution that is the hardest. It's the most diff task a pilot can complete. Side note, this is also why Marine Corps and Naval Aviators are far superior to any other pilots in the military.

    I swear if I see him pull himself forward again and adjust his position I’m going to sneak onto the carrier and slide his seat forward. Or add one of those foam spacers race car drivers use lol
    Awesome content as always
