So your in your mid 90's . I'm only a kid one day short of my 73rd. but I share your love of this melody though I don't believe I've ever seen the movie .
I was appalled to learn that this movie song was not nominated for an oscar. This beautiful song simply put, is one of the most lovely music pieces I've heard from any soundtrack. Victor Young was a genius!
Bless her heart Frances... you're very lucky to still have her and enjoy her love for you and your family... thank you likewise for listening to the video.
I originally saw this as a child back in the 1950’s. Just watched again today after so many decades . How wonderful to watch this beautiful film after so very long . Dana & Susan were such wonderful actors. The music is absolutely sublime. One of the beautiful songs ever written. I also cried because I remembered the ending.
@@opaulamorgan4265 I can fully understand why. After watching the film again yesterday, it’s been going around in my head ever since. Mind you, I did play several different versions of it😊. The Nat King Cole version was so beautiful. Very haunting song.
The Victor Young version, the instrumental version, is very beautiful, but anything Nat King Cole sings is always beautiful too. I didn't care for the jazz versions, so I guess it depends on whether one wants to hear the song with the words or just the instrumental version. Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra also recorded the song. Martha Mears was the vocalist for the soundtrack in the movie.
Although this song was made 6 years before I was born, it is hands down my favorite of all. It would be the background music while I courting my Margaret back in 1978-79. I never loved since, however this song makes me feel as if she is by my side.....
I remember as a child seeing this movie with my family, and as well as the movie, the theme music has remained with me over the years as a reminder of times and people long gone........ I remember my wife's mother telling me one time that one of her prayers at night would be for all the old stars of the silver screen, for the wonderful entertainment they provided to so many people struggling during those hard times. For all young couples in those days, going to "the pictures" (the term here in Cork) was a regular treat, to look forward to...….
Impossible to describe the emotions I feel in my heart when I listen to this beautiful song, and when I look at the picture of Susan Hayworth. My God, she was so beautiful and such a good actress! Who could forget her in this movie, and in "I want to live" or "With a Song in my Heart", to mention just two.
+Victor Talking Machine ...don't know what they were thinking when they chose that other song unless it was Christmastime....this song 'My Foolish Heart' is so beautiful and deserved to win for best song!
@@gossamerwings3632 : Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" was and is a very popular song. Complex to sing, and a lovely sentiment to boot. Plus Bing Crosby was enormously popular, as well.

What a magnificent love theme. Victor Young created many fine film scores, won posthumously the Academy Award for AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, but MY FOOLISH HEART is, in my opinion, a superior piece of music (as was SHANE).
I agree whole heartedly with SandViolet! I am a lover of ALL Victor Young's music! And this particular song is in a category all its' own! It is so beautiful!
What a version! Immediate chills, hard to swallow, and for goodness sake, just who is it that keeps cutting up all those onions? I don't know if I could swim the English channel, but my eyes sure could.
What a beautiful theme. I have always thought Susan Hayworth was lovely since my teenage years and this music perfectly matches the film 'My foolish Heart'. The composers from the 30's to the 50's seem to have a particular understanding of the romantic style of film of the period and their music was beautifully composed and arranged.
The opening glamour photo of Susan Hayward is as beautiful as the melody composed by Victor Young! Both of these beloved immortals died young, and at almost the same age, and of an issue of the brain. Hayward at age 57 of brain cancer, and Young at age 56 of a cerebral haemorrage. It doesn't get much sadder than this. As melancholic as morose as the music itself. "There is nothing more beautiful than a perfect tragedy."
I read your comment, listened to the music and cried! this is music to listen to while being held by someone! Beautiful including photos! Thank you, Milton MMM!

Susan Hayward's tough inner core was subdued in this film - here she's more vulnerable & romantic - giving her sexiest & most poignant performance - along with this intensely romantic theme song written by Victor Young - they & Dana Andrews make this film better than it should be - considering its melodramatic script - and mundane direction
