"Dev of the game here: Oobja originally doesn't particularly have a story, since it was made for someone I care about, however it's inspiration is split between two things:
1. The original Oobja game was just a meme that my friend made and it was a long standing weird inside joke in our community, however after sometime I wanted to make something with it so with permission I did so
2. The dialogue and everything was based off a dream I had a good while ago where my body had become ethereal in some kind of way and I was sent to some kind of astral world where this being who I couldn't really make out what it was, was telling me that I'd be okay and that it was going to protect me while I was with it.
I think what everyone's making of the game and theories are cool, it's cool to see everyone's interpretation on it."

Usually whenever a wholesome game gets popular i'm like "oh okay this is happening now, might aswell join in!", i understand the message and i understand the point of the game, But i genuinely don't understand the horrible execution because he's a god damn ball and he literally gives you 4 choices in this 5 minute long game, and i either have to get attached to a default sphere or a line of text that, when playing through it the first time, i literally did not notice for the whole playthrough because my computer screen is dirty. There's not really any real "characters" for me to choose from!

it's meant to comfort people, especially people with depression. It's not meant to be played for fun. Like someone had a tough day at work or school, this game is generally targeted for those people.
