  • Hello UA-cam viewers, I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Warning! These pictures and videos were taken with my phone. You may suffer from motion sickness in watching this video. This is my First UA-cam channel, first video, first vivarium.
    This set-up is in a 40 gallon breeder tank. This is my first attempt in making a vivarium, so please excuse anything that may have been done wrong. Overall, I spent about six hours from start to finish in this set-up, a little rushed. I will be adding some poison arrow dart frogs into this system in the next few months. I am looking forward to getting feed back from the public and professionals that have been in the hobby, enjoy.

      Adrian Alob Yeah that's what people think, but it's actually the opposite, it takes much more time of research thow, but once you have a bioactive setup going it cleans it's self, literally, the bugs and bacteria eat the animal's waste and the plants clean the water if you have a semi aquatic setup. If your interested check out bioactive groups on Facebook or read about it online.

      Uh no. Not to be rude, but... A frog in the wilderness will likely be parasite ridden/ and could be eaten alive any moment. What's great about these vivariums is that every possible thing can be perfect for them- such as humidity, temperatures, and terrain. When made correctly these frogs can thrive, like they clearly are in this video.

    • @jacobtemple7251
      @jacobtemple7251 8 років тому +8

      +Zion Adams okay, let's say humans instead, I have dart frogs and feel bad for them sometimes. If a human got sent to jail he will be in misery, but in certain cases better health than than some people on the outside. So even though he could be doing better in prison he wants to be free and outside. But he can't.just like the frog who wants to be free but would be healthier in captivity.

    • @jacobtemple7251
      @jacobtemple7251 8 років тому +4

      +Zion Adams do you think if he set this tank outside (imagine if this was outside) and opened the doors and let the frogs out, what do you think the frogs would do, be in 1 space for the rest of their lives or free?

    • @quinadams3181
      @quinadams3181 8 років тому +39

      Jacob Temple
      Unless he lives in the rainforest of South America- they would dry out and die within minutes lol. And dart frogs don't wander "free" around aimlessly, they congregate in areas that suit their environmental needs. Frogs are very different from people, so that is a silly comparison- amphibians/reptiles don't feel safe in huge areas, they become fearful and the stress alone sometimes kill them. Smaller enclosed areas helps their mental state tremendously, how do you have dart frogs and not know this?!

    For a first vivarium, this is really sharp. I am curious how the Deerfern moss did. Also, next time, I would use silicone and attach peat moss to the areas that the spray foam was exposed. It will facilitate root expansion, and look much better. Great job, from a guy who has built literally entire frog rooms of tanks like these.

    • @littlepigboy
      @littlepigboy 4 роки тому

      @JohnGibeau could you please be so kind as to explain what you mean about the moss to silicone attachment on exposed areas & it facilitating in root expansion? I hope to find you well, I know it’s been 3 years. Take care.

      @@littlepigboy Where you can see spray for an you essentially cut the shiny bits off and cover it in silicone. You can then drop peat moss or any other soil on it which once dry, looks natural and allows roots to climb up and moss to grow on.

      @@littlepigboy watch a serpa design video on it. You don't want to show exposed foam right so cut off the parts that are shiny, then apply silicone and add substrate. That way it looks natural and also plants can grow on the substrate

    On a friends account, but was watching the video. This... Is gorgeous. No one can deny that. There are a few problems i see though depending on what your goals are... If you intend to breed your frogs, it will probably never happen. Fish will eat eggs / tadpoles more than likely, and the water frogs would compete being much larger. As well, if the water frogs are true amphibious and reach land, they will most likely compete and over power your dart frogs and kill them. That's why it's never a good idea to mix frogs. As someone else has mentioned here, filter setup should be accessible as well so that it can be cleaned. Otherwise... This is perfection when maintained...

      I second the motion! How much to set up a Florida native 4'x2'x2' snake paludarium? I have the snake, heat pad, and the glass cage/stand, nothing else. I'm thinking with the snake not being of the tropics, I might have to avoid a lot of misting or moss to negate any respiratory issues, but some sort of bush/bonsai, wood/rocks, fern, background with vines/roots, emersed/bog plants, and waterfall pump on timer, yeah, help with plant specimen selection, appropriate lighting, and set up, that'd be nice.

    Thanks tdg223, I just tried it on my own. You can find info from people's ideas off the Internet. I would recommend researching on mechanical issues, such as plumbing, filtration, etc..., then you can let your imagination do the rest. I would recommend keeping in mind maintenance and the special needs of specific species. Good luck, I'm going to be working on another project here soon. Check back everyone.

      agreed, needs a whole bunch more floating plants, like duckweed covering the waterline, so they don't drown if they fall in.

      How deep is it essential for a dendrobate to be in water?

  • @Pray4Mojo1

    So how long did this last? I'm asking this question because eventually your filter will become clogged beyond recognition and there's no access to without ripping half of it apart.

      I know exactly what you mean. It's not a matter "if" this will happen, but "when". That being said, they did a good job avoiding dirt and adding barriers, so I think it will last a while.

    Dude, you make something awesome, that everyone has questions about, and then you don't answer them?! Did you forget your password or something? I wanna know what kind of foam, are the plants all live, what kind of fish, do the frogs eat them? And you have several frogs in with your dart frog.....are they all poisonous or just the blue one? Which frogs can live together with a dart? What other creatures can live peacefully in my little frog world? Any reply is appreciated......any non-reply is kinda rude! :(

    • @masterfissue3612
      @masterfissue3612 7 років тому +10

      the foam he used is a pond foam thats nontoxic used in outdoor ponds, all the plants are living and im pretty sure the fish are tetras. No the frogs shouldnt eat them if they are fed properly. All dart frogs are poisonous if you lick them or ingest them... im farely sure they are harmless to other frogs in the tank as generally the species in this tank dont eat others of its species. Sorry im not the person who uploaded this magnificant vivarium but hopefully i helped you out?
