Always loved Citroën. My dad owned a bright blue 2CV when I grew up, and that was our only car (I was born in 1992, so this was already a pretty special car) for years. It took us all around Europe in great amounts of comfort. That back seat was so brilliant. It never let us down, except for the one time the roof came off when a truck passed us and we had to go back and pick it up off the freeway. That was quite an adventure :) Unfortunately it had to go because of monetary reasons, but we always replaced Citroëns with Citroëns. We had a few BX's, but they tended to break down, and we bought a Xantia that my parents still own and that I still drive quite frequently. The ride quality is just unbelievable, and it's an absolutely perfect car for long trips. The electronics kinda suck, but the engine and suspension make up for that. You can pick these up for less than €500 nowadays, which is by far the best value for money car I can think of tbh. So yeah, I ended up buying a Mazda myself, but Citroën will always be the brand that actually started my love for cars. I'd love to one day own a 2CV, DS or CX.
I had 2CVs and AKs for years ... none ever bought new. Loved them very much still. I don't own a car now, but if I'd need one, I'd probably look for a cheap reliable Japanese one. Spare parts for a 2CV are incredibly high-priced, so this era is over, sadly.
Great video of the most original brand of the car history: Traction Avant, 2 CV, DS, SM, Xsara Picasso and now C4 Cactus. Awesome design and incredible technology. That's a brand to be proud of!
Totally agree with you, they're so beautiful. Like rolls royces but cheaper and more interesting, like you'd want to do a very long journey in it. The sm is my favourite.
+g00dfeeling The old big Citroens (D's , CX , SM) have all the wonderful engineering. I own a couple of CX, my 75 CX2000 needs a full rebuild. CX's & SM's are perfect for long distance grand touring in comfort.
g00dfeeling Thanks for the picture :-) Even when compared side by side with an XM & a C6, to my eye there CX still stands out. Something about the proportions & it's stance on the road, maybe its the Bertone styling. Metallic gray is very flattering.
The Citroen brand is already famous and prestigious enough. Peugeot made a very big mistake by creating the Ds brand. They should have built Citroen as a luxury brand in the same way Audi did with Volkswagen.
Audi used to be considered the poor man's Mercedes circa 30 years ago but that's not the case any more.It took BMW more than 30 years before it became a respected premium brand. The Germans are consistent and patient and they believe in growing a brand over a long period of time. Citroen ought have been the French version of a Mercedes but they ufortunately decided to shoot themselves on the foot a long time ago.
I was really happy at first. I love these little history videos. Especially one about citroen since I own myself a ds3 but, I have never ever since someone be so vague as this man before. I am certain that he is a man of knowledge but he can't speak. He goes own with repetitions and never really explained anything at all... Which is kind of sad in my opinion. I think all just have look for more details my self. Also, good job done by you Xcarfilms. Thanks for not doing like the french, dubbing over. It makes the video a lot more enjoyable and for people like me a lot nicer to watch since we can just listen to a man without looking at subs.
Shame I couldn't watch any of the clips as the whole time was spent reading the subtitles. By which time the clip had changed before I got a chance to look!
Yeah they all have to have some kind of brand identity, I wish they would just build the most beautiful car they can make and get on with it. Don't get me wrong, they're all pretty good, but they're very similar to each other. The GTbycitroen concept shows they can still design an incredible car, so they should really just do it.
+G? Who says they don't? If the cars were acquired Without the parts, then the retro engineering is complex and time consuming. Applying reason and logic, the greatest return is from getting the maximum number of cars roadworthy. Less sensible is spending thousands of hours on just a few cars, while the rest languish.
the citroen is a wonderful car with a major defect: it is too much sophitiscated for average mechanics so when the aftermarket service fails, the average motorist have no other choice than ditch the car
+Jacques Poirier With the state of complexity of ALL modern cars, your assertion is ludicrous. Were that the actual case, why would anybody ever buy one. You sir, are a fool, by opening your mouth, you have confirmed what many suspected.
I think it's kinda interesting, as a concept. It looks like those maseratis of the time with the glass back. I don't think we can see enough of it to make a real judgment, but I quite like the glass breadvan style of it, in black would be better. Unless you're talking about the DS at 4:10, then blasphemy I say!

+TIMEtoRIDE900 No, this(2CV) was aimed to be very very cheap model. Do you ever heard of Traction Avant? That was the model which Citroen sold on those years. Check it out.

Hi Mr. 'lol', VW was a state-owned giant factory that was subsidized and still concentrated practically on one gas-wasting pre-war model with no real innovation ever. Eventually Golf appeared - this became possible by buying Audi factory from Mercedes and producing a small car that Mercedes had developed for Audi.

What a load of tosh. If you see another race or genotype, and simply see it for what it is, that's recognition. Racism is saying or thinking - "I hate the xxxx", without having a reason. If you say - "I hate the way the xxxxx do whatever", that's criticism, and may be a totally valid standpoint.
