  • As humans, we have a natural tendency to get stuck in dependent relationships with the creation rather than the Creator. Whether it’s alcohol, drugs, food, sex, relationships, or something else - when we turn to anything other than God for spiritual, relational, or emotional security, it will eventually destroy us. This message takes an in-depth look at additions and the steps we can take to overcome them.

31:32 - The sermon message "Wisdom Against Addiction" from Pastor Rustin Rossello was given at the Shea Campus at Scottsdale Bible Church on April 21, 2024, and live-streamed for the SBC Online Campus
33:09 - Addiction Defined: A person is drawn in by something….
It begins to provide a sense of comfort for them…
They then start to fiercely defend that thing…
Eventually they believe it is sustaining them…
When it is really killing them.
An addiction is anything we rely on other than God for spiritual, relational, or emotional security. “I’m okay because this is okay.”
35:57 - (ESV) Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
41:27 - He doesn’t need our obedience… He longs for our flourishing.
42:23 - (ESV) Proverbs 23:29-35 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30 Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. 31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. 32 In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. 33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. 34 You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, like one who lies on the top of a mast. 35 “They struck me,” you will say, “but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake? I must have another drink.”
57:12 - (ESV) Proverbs 25:16 If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it.

It’s very brave to preach the AA steps and be transparent in personal recovery. I hope that the community can understand and support each other and know why this is necessary. God Bless you for this needed message. 🪽❤️
