The neat thing about having both a turbo & supercharger is that the supercharger can help keep the turbo spooled up so it helps decrease any turbo lag. I think that is smart thinking on the part of the person that built the engine.
Everyone is talking about it's engine... what really stunned me while watching this was the agility! This thing brakes and corners like a single seater Formula-car! You can tell a lot of work has been put into aerodynamics (splitters, diffuser, wing), suspension and tires! (is it pure slicks?!)

This is because the pitch of the supercharger 'whine' varies with engine rpm (as is apparent in the video), whereas pitch of the gearbox 'whine' changes with the gearbox speed/rpm of the driven wheels, giving a more gradual change in sound.
@diamlierx doesnt meant they are FIA legal cars to compete in world class events. theres a difference between being FIA approved, being FIA legal, and picking and choosing FIA rules for a specific event or class

That noise is from the spur gears used on the transmission rather than helical gears which are otherwise standard. I could make love to that noise all day long.
@diamlierx no, its the factory 4G63 engine that the car originally comes with..... which has been modified extensively....... this ford fiesta with an ecoboost 4cylinder was a motor swap
you got good taste =) its better to build handling more slightly better than raw power. the faster you build your car the more effort you have to make the handling better. thats what you called a quality car. engine performance is among the easiest step to do to a car. people think its the hardest part which its not. handling is what fit your drive style and the track you tune it for.

Whining would be the straight cut gears & the supercharger (I'd suggest looking it up, most manual vehicles feature straight cut 1st & reverse gears. Racing cars use straight cut for all gears). Better for low torque boost which the supercharger would do then the turbo would come in at higher RPMs; I'm suspecting this is the setup anyway.
Not sure if you're serious... That Lancia is very very fast and driven by a capable driver, but it's 4wd system and chassis technology are about a decade behind. The Delta is my favorite rally car of all time, but only when keeping in mind the technology level of the time
It sounds great for sure! To me an awsome sounding engine can be of very different characters! A big growling V8 like the semi-legendary AMG 6.2 V8, the Formula-1 V12 engines in the early 90's like the Honda V12 in the McLaren in 91/92 and the Ferrari V12's, but also the sound of a whining compressor and a turbo "blowing off"! That's why i'm not one of those who think F1 will be "destroyed" with the new engines! High reving, high-pressure turbos might sound better than the V8's they have now!
Hi just a quick question for those more familiar with trackday cars, what sort of transmission would a car like this be using? It's not a regular manual with a clutch right? It seems to change gears too fast to have a manual clutch. Or maybe not? Lemme know! :)
@TheInconcinnity coming from a guy who mainly favourites rally car videos, rally is completely different to handling on the tarmac (only) and i'm aussie, and proud; and we have something called v8 supercars which do a LOT more than run round in a banked oval (on the corners) such as boring american nascar! Handling is obviously my thing, i know a lot about cars and also i have played racing games since 1996. And i can tell you, in this video, this car handles unlike real life...

If you were to look closely at this car, doubtlessly you would find it is essentially a tube-framed race car built into an evo shell. The suspension will all be custom double-wishbone race units. If you look at the specs on a v8 supercar, they weigh over 1300kg (sans driver), and conform to homologation rules. That is why they do not compare with this car.

@diamlierx not really....... when a factory sponsored car has an engine put into it, it must use an engine from the same manufacturer as the chassis, its one of the FIA rules, but that rule does not apply to Formula1, Indy etc where only a handful of manufacturers are building these engines for different teams, not just their own
@yourmom22345 what you are hearing is the straight-cut gears it has, that is why it sounds like the whine increases with the engine speed. It is Turbo, for sure, Idk or think it is s/c in addition to that tho, i think that is just the gears. ---i posted a video of straight cut gears in response to this video, check it out

thats what you called a quality car. engine performance is among the easiest step to do to a car. people think its the hardest part which its not. handling is what fit your drive style and the track you tune it for.

That's a monster of an Evo 5/6. Twin charging a 4G63, AWD and a aggressive looks that can kill in one second?! They have to run this in Pikes Peak :D.

The sound coming from the supercharger. It is a twin-screw supercharger. I think it is a Lysholm. Not from the gearbox.
