+Robin L. Tinderfox it's not /that/ plain. I just think synthetic fruit and peanut butter, probably just doesn't sit well with us. I mean we have crunchy nut but that's mostly just sugary, we have your corn flakes, cheerios, rice crispies. We also do have weetabix (bland, but most people have own preference for toppings, I used to just pile sugar on top lol). Take a look at out variety packs (for kids) that has some typical English cereals (could be american too, I believe they're all kellogg's).
Aside from cereal, we do have the best breakfast of all... The Full English Breakfast, Google it. But most people don't have the time to prepare it.
I mean personally I'm not even awake for breakfast most days, and when I am I skip it anyway. But I have fond memories of breakfast lol.
Oh and try some marmite on toast :)
Also any other british people know what milk that is? It looks like some type of long life shite judging from the odd bottle shape and pure white colour. Instant way to ruin any cereal is put long life in it lol.

+FuuNoKami_Oka He said British cereal isn't often as sweet or by the sound of things as "novelty" as in the US. Sugar is the first ingredient for most of our cereals so it makes sense for us to be used to them by now. Our diets are full of fat and sugars that are far less common overseas.
As for this though, I'm partly with him. Reeses puffs aren't as good as say mixing Cocoa Puffs and Peanut Butter Crunch together. It's sweeter and there's more chocolate in it to balance it out, tastes better than just Reeses puffs in general.

Bryan G. I don't mind peanut butter, I just don't think it needs to be put into everything, as to "banning all the good tasting things" you might have to give some actual examples of that friend, because from where I'm sitting you seemed to pull that notion right outta your ass.
And you're not really convincing me on the protein angle either when we're talking about this cereal and other junk-food examples which I doubt has anything even close to actual peanuts in it.

  • @Wyrdwad
    @Wyrdwad 8 років тому +5

Reese's Puffs is one of my favorite cereals of all time, man! Don't think it'll change your mind, but I will say you aren't using nearly enough milk. The key to Reese's Puffs is to DRENCH it in milk so that it gets semi-soggy -- not all the way soggy, of course, but the pieces need to absorb some of the milk and get... well... puffy! This helps cut the salt content and delivers a genuinely satisfying flavor that I just can't get enough of.

Different strokes for different folks! Personally, I can rarely eat cereal without milk -- and I need a LOT of it. If the milk isn't all the way up to the lip of the bowl and almost spilling out, then as far as I'm concerned, I don't have enough for a bowl of cereal. ;)

Well Mike, you strike me as a kind of rigid, picky, inflexible kind of guy. Anything slightly different or unusual at what you consider to be the wrong time or place, and you strongly reject it.
You also react strongly to flavours that other people would consider relatively mild - see the recent Boy vs Girl eating challenges where Grace barely flinches, and you're all over the place.
Haven't tried this cereal, but the real peanut butter cups also have a bit of a salty kick to them, so it's no real surprise that the cereal does as well. Many people like the contrast of salty and sweet - see salted caramel as an example of that.

Reese's Puffs is one of my favorite cereals actually (Lucky Charms and the Count Chocula family make up my top 5 though).
Here in America we honestly don't notice the salt and sugar in most of our foods either way that much since we put so much in everything. Probably the same reason the artificial fruit flavors bothered you so much in Trix and Froot Loops; we're _used to_ those flavors in our breakfast cereal, our candies, our soft drinks, our desserts, and our fruit juices.
The idea of putting raisins, dried straberries, or banana slices in cereal is a common one over here (not one I was ever fond of) and the fruit flavored cereals are an attempt at immitating the way the tastes combine for those who don't care for the texture combination that winds up with. Similar ideas for orange creme / peaches and cream / whipped cream and strawberries.

I think it's just a difference in how sweets are manufactured. We're raised off of corn-based products/artificial sweeteners, and so those cereals taste good/normal to us. Obviously tastebuds change and about 75% of the time we find, as adults, that our favorite childhood snacks do not hold up, but yes, the vast majority of the younger ones, and a lot of the older ones too, genuinely like those.

Just remember that what passes for food in England is stuff I wouldn't feed to my dog. So different strokes for different folks is really all I can say.

You're crazy Mike. Reese's puffs is my favorite cereal. The only thing stopping me from eating it every meal is health. It's like crack in my mouth.

Salty-sweet things are a bit of an acquired taste, but not all that rare around here. I like reese's stuff, and I like things like 'flipz' (chocolate coated pretzels), but not constantly. Its been a while since I've had the reese's puff ceral, but I liked it as a kid.

I love Reeses Puffs and I have never really noticed the salty taste, although that might because I eat so much peanut butter in my life that I just don't notice it anymore.

I think its because things here are made differently our things are made to fit our tastebuds. If there were made over there i think different ingredients would be used

+latieraeve possibly, but I don't think British and American tastes differ that much. Maybe just opinions on what cereal or breakfast should be like flavour-wise.

I can't give you my own opinion because I am allergic to reeses so I've never tried the cereal, but I did like the commercials xD
My brother loved it when he was younger! It was one of his favorites.

To be honest, as an American, the only cereal I really eat is Honey Nut Cheerios. I may occasionally get a box of Reese's Puffs because I actually like them. But other than that I really don't eat the sugary cereals.

It's been so many years since I've had Reese's Puffs. I do remember enjoying them though. Definitely my least favorite of the ones you've tried this week though. Never had tomorrow's Apple Jacks though.
I am going to buy a box of ultra-sugary cereal to eat this weekend though, these videos made me crave it. I want to try American Capn' Crunch some time, as I hear it's quite different in America (I am in Canada). I love the Canadian stuff though.

I've actually never tried those... I love the peanut butter cups. I don't know why I've never even thought about buying them. I'm really curious now. (I doubt it's that salty)
It might also be that you may like all these cereals but without the milk. I usually carry around a baggie of cereal as a snack. It's been a little while since I've had cereal with milk.

I don't enjoy cereal in general. When I do eat it, it's usually Frosted Wheats or Frosted Flakes (Frosties for the Brits)

Yes, I do LOVE this cereal. I don't notice a saltiness, only the taste of peanut butter (mixed with chocolate), which I also love. (I'm in the US, btw) I guess Resse's Puffs was also a rare treat for me growing up since my parents didn't want us eating sugary cereal...And by the time I got my own job, I lost interest.

This cereal showed up long after I stopped eating sugary cereals due to type 1 diabetes so I haven't a clue if I'd find it salty. I find Cheerios distinctly salty eaten dry, a bit less so in milk, yet still palatable. I wonder if Mike likes it or would like it.
Mike seemed to enjoy Special K cereals when he tried them for a diet -- I don't mind them but they have a sort of gluey undertone, or perhaps I just think of that taste as gluey because it's from wheat gluten. I don't recall Mike noting an odd taste. But de gustibus etc.
