Vinyl's inconvenience is actually a "feature"...love it! Makes perfect sense with regard to deprograming audiophiles to listen to music instead of gear.
I believe that most self claimed audiophiles and just audio gear heads.
I dont have vinyl and I listen to music too. Or is that exclusive to you and your record player?
@@Audfile Audiophiles tend to divorce themselves from the pure enjoyment of music. Instead, they focus on what the gear can do, or more often, what the gear cannot do. Format is irrelevant since people with exclusively digital systems can fall into the same trap.
@@Leicaphile27 That's right, but without the inner groove distortion and surface noise. Sorry, I had to.
"The inconvenience of the turntable was the feature I was looking for." Best quote ever.
Thank you Shaheed and Steve!
he nailed it about being to trigger happy with streaming. I was doing the same thing and never learning an album like in the past. I now mostly play records and CDs and am enjoying more than ever.
Shahed is very interesting because he is so articulate. I have owned none of the gear he has (he has a much larger budget than I do 😬)….but his description of his personal audio journey is so vivid that it's enjoyable to take the ride! 👍🏼
Yes 100% agree
I really appreciate the fact that Shahed understands the relationship between a room and the types of speakers that will work in such a room.
Yes, he is causing me to ask the same question, which of my many speakers is right for the room I’m in? I simply can’t part with them like he does. I did when I was younger and moving all the time as he is. Perhaps I need to learn ‘let go,’ as they say.
One of you best interviews! I loved learning about Shahed’s journey
Most salient point is the impact of listening to LPs for the whole album versus the behavior with streaming.
Really enjoyed this interview, nice feature on the channel.
Thank you
Great video! It's always fun to hear about someone else's audiophile journey.
I always enjoy the folks you choose to interview! It was cool to see a younger dude sharing his journey & passion. Amazing that he built his own music server & player 👍🏼👍🏼
3:51 you can tell he's an audiophile. Sound equipment is more important than furniture! Awesome.
What a great interview! Enjoyed hearing about his journey through all of this. Would really love to hear that system, no doubt it would sound amazing. 40K for a pair of speakers…ouch but wow! Definitely beyond my budget but one can always wish. Thought the Aric components were simplistically gorgeous
Nice to see someone that has a sense of articulation. I always wonder how one can afford all these different transitions,?.I guess I'm envious. Once again thank you Steve Guttenberg for this post.!!!
Shahed, you are awesome. I enjoyed your interview immensely and looking much forward to the second part.
One perk of escaping NYC to a semi rural area is the fact I can blast my gear at any/all hours with ZERO complaints. I do miss going to live shows on the regular though.
Back into vinyl after a 20 year gap and I totally understand the statement "vinyl's inconvenience is a feature....". I'm just more engaged in the music when I put an LP on. I also cancelled all my streaming services and only buy my music now. Either digital downloads or LP's.
Same. I've bought more vinyl in the last year than I did for the last two decades.
Merry Christmas Steve!🎄
Thanks for all the hard work and the great reviews throughout the year!
Love this interview! Thanks, Steve!
Great video and wow, he has some awesome gear. I love his turntable/vinyl explanation and I feel the same way. I got back into vinyl a couple years ago and enjoying it more than when I was a teenager in the 80's for sure. It does have a better sound for me and I enjoy listening to an entire album as well. I'm discovering the joy of music again with vinyl.
damn, that last part really makes you wanna watch part 2. well played, mr guttenberg. well played.
Wow. Great space and lighting.
Yeah…viewing on an iPad Pro…the video is strikingly VIVID!
Thank you for this interview. I have learned from this man.
I'd love to listen to such tube setup live. It's really hard to audition any gear here. The closest thing to hiend audio that you can audition here for free is a herd of sheep. Pure analogue and surround. Ireland...
Regarding the turntable - that resonates very well with my own experience - I kept using a turntable through the 1990s and the 2000s when vinyl wasn't cool, just so I would continue to have that experience of leaning back and listening to an entire side of a record, get up and flip it and continue. It's just, to me, a much nicer experience that helps actively listen to music. CDs are a little bit the same way, and streaming just doesn't work for me. We're all individuals with different personalities and traits. The only time I dislike my turntable is when I end up with one of my cats resting in my lap - which is really wonderful until I have to get up and change side/record... :)
Terrific interview, Steve! Love the vinyl encouraging concentration, deeper immersion-less flitting about. Almost fell off my chair hearing Shahed quote me on the ‘alphabet soup’ of AN names. (I tried to fight it, naming the Galahad power supply and two power amps, one of which Shahed owned.)
Such a fascinating audio journey. I think he should be given his own TV show so we can see every detailed step on this most fascinating of audio journeys.
Even though the vast majority of my music is in digital file form on three TB drives, I like having the media in my hands. I'm with Shahed on this one, I love the "inconvenience" of vinyl because it makes me pay attention. CDs to a lesser extent too.
I've been rippind years of CD's this fall using Windows Media Player yo an external hard drive. My goa for 2022 is to set up a NAS and be able to stream music around our house, Got to admit though my computer skills are quite lacking, and am looking for a UA-cam channel that can help me, a 60 year old, figure it out.
Great interview! Shahed is correct in that once you go open baffle its tough to go back to boxed, even Wilson Sasha's.
Watching this and I keep saying to myself, Yes! I agree!!! A Musical Audiophile is possible! And this comes from a musician.
What a good interview, what a good journey. I too found streaming my music distracting from enjoying it jumping from one tune to another diminished that sense of being drawn into the music and taken away to another place .
Back in the 70’s and 80’s I would buy albums based on the songs heard on the radio. I wasn’t interested in buying the singles on 45’s. I will admit that I would rarely play an album in its entirety. I would pick up the tone arm and move on. I still have almost every album I ever bought and have started buying new pressings of old material that I wished I had bought back in the day. The difference now, like Shahed, I listen to the whole side or whole album now. I do listen to digital as well for the convenience. I still use my original Dual TT, a borrowed LP-12, and Klipsch La Scala’s(bought in 1980).
That Aric Audio amp . . . GORGEOUS.
Love it Steve. Leave'em wanting more.
Joseph Audio Perspective2 Graphene speakers have excellent driver integration, even in near field listening. It’s possible that the speaker height or tilt wasn’t setup properly, possibly due to those (Townshend?) platforms. It is true that they need a lot of space behind them, though.
Fun journey he went on, with so much different gear.
Nice. I bet it sounds great. I hope to hear some tubes at the Montreal Audio Show in the Spring if the border is open!
Really enjoyed his honesty and introspection - as a Rev. I strive for that
I love this interview!
Linn LP12. The king of turntables. I miss mine. Should have kept it. Had to trade it in for digital gear.
Great interview! 👍
After buying a Rega P10 & Gold Note P-10 two months ago. I ditto what he says @12:00 about listening to entire albums. Plus, getting up to flip the record has to count as exercise, right?
Loved this interview Steve. And fully agree with streaming vs CD’s and vinyl… it’s why I’m nervous about pulling the trigger on a good steaming amp.
For now, I think I’ll stick with my CD’s, and then streaming Tidal through one of a few of my decent blue tooth speakers. Both sides now. Different moods.
Best of the Season!
clean code is a good book for any IT guy, respect! :D
WAIT that Audio Note is Andy Pettite's box shape & driver alignment of Boston A 100s - that speaker was truly the biggest surprise jump in sound quality we ever got from a single purchase.
Shahed’s comment on the Harbeths is spot on. They excite my 13X20 room at fairly modest volumes, say 70 dB.
A very enjoyable listen and watch.
It would have been interesting to know why Shahed moved away fromAUdio Note power amps to use with speakers and preamp. Did the Aric superset out perform level 3 Audio Note equivalents which produce a similar power rating as the Aric?
Clearly his Passion is addictive ! Loved it ...
Nice interview! Would be great to have some information about the DIY music server that also functions as a streamer
Great video in all aspects! The Audio Note speakers!! @9:23 what racks are you utilizing? Appears to be a solid build. Thank you!
Congrats on the AudioNote Speakers.. kind of hard to find pricing in the US, but I would Love to hear some AudioNote.
So.... My question is being in an apartment and knowing that the AC outlets are usually minimal & also they usually have multiple plugs running off of one run of wire. How does one combat plugging in multiple components off of these ( potentially unsavory outlets?) Outlets?
For someone like myself who changes speakers every 10 years or more, this is a very interesting perspective.
Aric Audio awesome. Great guy to work with excellent sounding/SIMPLE amps. If you like tubes, great to check out his stuff.
I was the same when I was young ,always selling gear so I could try out new or better gear
The best feature my Listening partner thinks I have in my system is a broken remote. Lol!
So while always looking for the latest and greatest he discovered vinyl!
Once you get the Linn bug, more MUSIC is your reward as you go.
That’s right about listening to vinyl records!
Just looking at this system, you kind of hear it just prioritize musicality and organic / tone density that produces analog like natural sound. A system that's hard to review where you just want to listen. What a nice system just so expensive though.
I think I spotted a Radiohead tattoo. What a cool guy. Great interview!
I wonder what file management software he uses for his music server? Thank you. Recommandations are also welcome.
I find his interview interesting =amazing
Hahaha, the audiophile unfettered by domestic and financial considerations and occasionally the question pops into the mind, "What am I doing?" I know it well.
You are not "trigger happy" when the system sounds the way you like it to sound. You are "trigger happy" because you are searching for that one track that will sound "just right". This is case with any source not just prone to streamers. Most people can vouch to buying and selling gear specifically related to the "trigger happy" syndrome. Power cables, signal cables, source and room acoustics have a bigger role to the "trigger happy" syndrome than most people think. I think source is more important than speakers, cabling the system and properly matched components is important for the source to sound right, finally match the amp for the speakers or match the speakers for the amp. Thats my 2 cents not sure if its worth taking to the bank!
Massive video and audio improvements. New camera?
Thanks, but no, same camera! Just better natural light. Same mic BTW.
If Audio Note speakers thrive in corners, why don’t other brands do this? Most people don’t have tons of space and even if they did, would you want it taken up by speakers when it wouldn’t have to be?
what is the water cooled system on rack
Good interview, although he doesn't say whether he bought each pair of speakers along the line at new price. --Followed by, presumably, reselling them used at a loss. --I wish I could afford that kind of game.
tfw your gear decides your speaker placement and you have to place them in to corners of a room where you get mushy bass and there´s not much resolution to talk about after the sound leaves the speaker.
Love those speakers
Audio note speakers- why are they not super popular? Limited distribution and cost for what is essentially on old Snell design
Because they are phenomenally expressive and honest conveyers of music’s essential characteristics. Ranging from £1500 upwards, every design is special. World class in every way.
Aric Audio FTW
Hello Shahed!
Bro your in an apartment! How much power does one need? At least you have taste choice in your hifi gear.
"More".
None of that equipment draws a lot of power. Maybe a couple hundred watts for the entire system.
That is quite an expensive configuration, great nonetheless.
"the excitement of the new gear and reality"
Shahed is a lifer...he's well on his way to audio insanity for which there is no antidote. Welcome to the asylum!
I am sorry, however, this guy needs therapy. It’s obvious that not only does he have more money than common sense but there is an anxiety that is in serious need of attention. I wish him well on his journey.
