I know he plans to be an engineer when he’s done with gymnastics, but Stephen would make an INCREDIBLE coach. The ability to explain the pommel steps really well and stay super encouraging isn’t something everyone can do.
Watching an extremely fit dude try gymnastics gave me so much more respect for what they do. Like obviously I couldn’t do it, but when someone who I would consider to be jacked, ripped, shredded even, finds it that difficult, I am even more impressed with the actual gymnasts
Gymnastics is just a VERY different form of strength when comparing to power lifting. Even between female and male gymnastics its a worlds difference in terms of skills used and type of strength needed. Gotta say tho actually trying any form of gymnastics or hell anything that requires a decent amount of flexibility is one of the most humbling things.
What you are not understanding here is that Josh doesn't have the correct build for the sport. Body weight sports favor short slender builds, less weight to have to throw around. Josh isn't bulky but he is Tall and muscular. More of a basket ball player build, possibly football too. An actual body builder would be better in a contact sport where being heavier stronger and wider is an advantage. Different sports favor different body shapes weights ect.
If you notice, Stephen is jacked as well, but he is lean. He is very lithe. Josh is jacked obviously, but he is very broad, which makes pommel very hard to do. All the pommel horse guys are lean dudes. I casually follow Ian Gunther, and he said once he gained muscle in order to be better at bars, he couldn't do pommel horse as well. He was too"big" to do the same routine he had done 6 months prior. Gymnastics is such a different beast of a sport that the smallest amount of muscle gain can change so much. I was impressed that Josh was able to do as much he could.
It’s crazy how malleable the human body is. It can learn and do things we would as beginners think of as impossible but after time is just cakewalk. Athletes are inspiring.
I feel like Josh and Stephen connected really well. The dynamic between the two was a lot of fun. Kind of want a Last Meal with him to go more indepth.
I’m 100% convinced that Josh pitched this series for the sole purpose of getting Bas Rutten on the show to show off his Palm Heel Garlic strick in person
You know how we used to ask for like a normal dude to compete against the Olympians so we could have a reference for how impressive they were. I think thats what this was.
ive never watched gymnastic before but the way stephen speaks and his character and his superpower like skill, it just for some reason reminds me so much of tom holand's spiderman
This is 100% the best series for Josh. It plays to all his strengths. I really love the showing the persons excercise and routine right before interviewing them witha bunch of junk food.
Stephen seems like one of the nicest guys ever!! So gentle, considerate and very well spoken! What a role model for human beings in general!! More power to you Stephen! ❤❤
Watching this as a Paralympian who made it to Beijing 2022 and didn’t do so well it really does make a big difference how much you can train. I’ve only been able to train part time my entire sporting career as I’ve been doing school and other things, but I have been considering leaving school for now to train full time and get ready for the games in 2026. I don’t know how it will go and not sure if I should take that step but I want to see what I can achieve when I put everything into it.
@7:25 - I know you all know this cat is strong, but _look at how he _*_stops_*_ himself!_ That is strength AND control. I am always impressed by the sheer core strength of these gymnasts. If he knew BJJ, he might be a wrecking ball in his weight class.
This is one of those things that show just how much better, more athletic, and more in shape a professional is than others. Josh is in amazing physical shape, better than most, and even he struggled with Stephen's warmup.
i think it’s less about how in shape someone is and more about the type of “in shape” they are. stephen has to be incredibly flexible with insane core strength but josh did professional weightlifting. josh just has more strength in different muscle groups than stephen does
The thing I love about Josh’s interview series is that he chooses guests that compliment his interests and makes the interview so much more familiar, comfortable and deep. Also I’m so impressed with what a great athlete Stephen is. He seems so knowledgeable about sport psychology.
As someone who is actively trying to be healthier, yet has so much fear of entering a gym again, because it's been 10 yrs, watching someone like Josh who's obviously fit, it's calming to watch someone like him struggle and just have fun in that kind of environment
I've been going to the gym for two years now and still feel stupid sometimes. I even know people who have been going longer that feel the same way. But, that attitude is exactly what helps, embracing the learning, being okay with feeling stupid, and just having fun.
@generic_flower I wish I had the fortitude or at least the ability to recall my ability to be ok with feeling stupid in public. Somehow my anxiety got worse with age. I workout at home on a semi frequent basis, and my confidence is growing. Yet somehow something as simple as a curl feels hyper intimidating in front of anybody. I need a meathead friend ASAP.
That would be freaking so cool, my little brother is a climber and from watching him in some comps is it grip strength and agility that’s most important to a climber? My brother also just climbs up doorframes for fun and then at my dad’s wedding he attempted to scale the rock wall outside the chapel still in his dress shoes, so I’m assuming legs take a backseat?
I'm only 3 minutes in and I already love this guy. He's like, the exact fitness instructor I desperately always wished I had. "As long as you feel any kind of stretch, you're doing it right." I felt so reassured and somehow motivated to start regularly stretching again just from that alone-
Can we PLEASE have a designated Mythical channel where Josh tries new athletic activities? I'd take a whole gymnastics series. Also Stephen is an absolute gem! And 100% deserved to be on the team to literally deliver the highest scoring team.
I really like the Lean Beef Patty episode, so if this becomes a recurring companion to Last Meals I wouldn't be too upset. I hope a new Fancy Fast Food is coming soon, though.
Josh has a super power as an interviewer to display a level of admiration, adoration, and humility when speaking to and of the guests; that is so refreshing.
The series is really cool because it manages to talk about things that I have zero interest in, like fitness and exercise, in a way that I still find fascinating to watch people that are good at what they do talk about. I love that you're getting people who are articulate, and not just Meatheads.
The Olympics were great this year for highlighting the lesser known sports. Flava Flav sponsoring the women's water polo and Ilona Maher for women's rugby brought the spotlight.
He called it buff chick dip and I knew at that moment we would absolutely be best friends Loved this video. Great interview and Stephen is such a sweetheart
I LOVE this series never end it!! Id love to see someone like Cbum on here or a professional ballerina putting josh through a class! The possibilities are endless
Stephen is so intelligent, and grounded. He really took the media by storm; I wasn't following the Olympics at all, but found myself cheering on this dude, with the orange cat (fellow orangesicle owner here!) and GMM blanket sweater, who was suddenly the most meme'd guy of the summer lol. I love watching interviews with him because he's so passionate but humble, and just a really chill guy! Also currently googling instant pot buffalo chicken dip recipes, because my boyfriend and I are always on the hunt for good recipes to try in ours lol
I didn't watch any Olympics so I hadn't heard of Stephen, but what a fantastic guest! He's so positive and enthusiastic. Seeing Josh attempt the pommel horse was a highlight.
When Josh is first trying the pommel horse side to side scissor technique his legs look like he's in Mary Poppins as a chimney sweep during "Stepping Time" trying to do heel clicks 🤣
Such a wholesome guy. I agree with Josh, Stephen deserves all the good that comes his way. Great effort on the pommel horse as well Josh, hope the hole is ok 🤣❤️✌🏽
I just wanna say, ive had 6 left knee surgeries and have 2 herniated disc's in my lower back and I'm 36....I did the stretches with them and it's helping with pain...😊
This reminded me of how many different kinds of strength there are. Like you can specialize your body for such very specific purposes. Such as just body building in general compared to rock climbing.
I think one of the issues with gymnastics is a lot of people feel like they can’t start unless they started at the age of 3. It would be helpful if there are more options for starting at an older age including adulthood.

This is probably one of the best mythical kitchen interviews. Stephens positivity is super infectious. Cant wait to see Buff chicken dip out there soon! 😂
i love how mythical kitchen is becoming a regular celebrity interview spot based solely on their willingness to make each celebrities ideal meal
the only interview show where you have a great conversation and eat great food for free
Everyone wants to come on just so they can eat
And the great interviewing skills
Its positive, they are enjoying their favorites and not being disrespected. Its really wholesome ❤@llamamama2910
YES I love this type of content: food and good conversations
“it got me right in the hole” immediately cut to “you wanna try scissoring” is CRAZY work
I laught so hard my cat got scared XD

I know he plans to be an engineer when he’s done with gymnastics, but Stephen would make an INCREDIBLE coach. The ability to explain the pommel steps really well and stay super encouraging isn’t something everyone can do.
Yes! He is so enthusiastic, seemingly caring and very encouraging.
Agreed! I'm a teacher of 15 years and this kid has the gift!
Was thinking the same thing.
Those skills will not go to waste in an engineering career.
Stephen excitedly saying, "THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH!" is so precious. warms my heart.
Stephen is a National Treasure ❤

I feel like Josh needs to do some cardio! My dog walking routine seems a bit more rigorous than whatever he is doing.
Weightlifting strength is rather different from functional strength. Stephen is an animal, and Josh is an animal. Different specialties!

I was impressed that Josh was able to do as much he could.
Whenever you see gymnasts seemingly defy gravity, you know their core is iron.
Yeah my abdomen hurts just pretending to do what Stephen does lol.
Its takes a hell of a lot of dedication to fitness to do what they do.
Its absolutely insane.
Just go watch a gymnastic warm up and watch the core work they do its insane
It’s crazy how malleable the human body is. It can learn and do things we would as beginners think of as impossible but after time is just cakewalk. Athletes are inspiring.
I feel like Josh and Stephen connected really well. The dynamic between the two was a lot of fun. Kind of want a Last Meal with him to go more indepth.
I totally agree! ❤
right!
Agreed!
I just love his infectious energy. Such a bubbly and happy soul. We need more people like that in this world.
google parasocial relationships 😶🌫
Agree! I wish I were more like him.
Yessss 🙌🏼 he reminds me of my brother ❤❤
I’m 100% convinced that Josh pitched this series for the sole purpose of getting Bas Rutten on the show to show off his Palm Heel Garlic strick in person
Josh Scherer, Prince of Pancrase
I can see Josh playing that particular long game. 👍🏻
Josh is cookin in both sense
God that would be an amazing guest
No the reason Josh created this was to show off his his rocking body.❤❤ and I'm here for it keep em coming big man
You know how we used to ask for like a normal dude to compete against the Olympians so we could have a reference for how impressive they were. I think thats what this was.
Josh is in incredibly good shape, way above your average person. To have a six pack at his height takes tons of effort.
@@OrbObserver that is a good point. this makes me have way more respect.
@@OrbObserverand the fact that he was still challenged a lot just shows how crazy it is to be an Olympian!
Used to?
@@rachelfrederiksen1712 op might have meant during the Olympic season itself
Props to the sound/mic guys for making the first portion sound so clear in a gym with other people in it.
Now we need Ilona Maher!!! This was awesome!
Yes!!!
Please!!
The training section would be hilarious
yessss!! americas princess🗣️
@@pleasedyesyes i too want to watch Ilona tackle Josh
Stephen is so freaking sweet. This was a really great interview. Great job Mythical Kitchen! (And great job Josh on the horse! Sorry about the hole!)
I was laughing so hard I almost passed out 😂 (not the thing to watch when you are getting over bronchitis) 🤣
It’s because he is recognizing the skill set is in there but it needs finesse.
Stephen is far and away one of the most endearing athletes I’ve ever seen and I’m so obsessed with everything he does
ive never watched gymnastic before but the way stephen speaks and his character and his superpower like skill, it just for some reason reminds me so much of tom holand's spiderman
I thought he had spidey vibes too!
For sure has spidey vibes!
I remember a lot of people comparing him to superman with how different he looks with the glasses vs when hes not wearing them while competing
Tom Holland was a high level gymnast as well
Yeah! It makes sense why Josh joked about Stephen doing like, Spider Man 9 after his career!
Yeah they have really good chemistry too.
As a former aerial gymnastics teacher steven did really well teaching josh. Very good. Being a very good cheer/supporter is a big portion of the job.

Everytime Stephen is on my screen I’m smiling from ear to ear. Such a sweetheart and kind soul. His infectious energy just radiates off the screen. ❤❤
Josh being Stephen’s Kryptonite and getting him to collapse with laughter every single shot is healing me

@generic_flower I'm down 75 lbs since july and feel great. Just wish I had my gym bro vibes from the late 2000's at my side
I'd LOVE to see josh do this with a climber, maybe magnus, or a current pro- would b really interesting to see how josh does with climbing!

My vote is to get one or more of the gals from the USA rugby squad.
Ilona all the way!
Stephen has such a warm and genuine energy he clearly loves what he does and I respect that. Awesome and unexpected guest on the show!
This series is exceptional for showing how truly difficult what these athletes are doing is.
