the scoring was definitely too low in the first heat or two, and many comments here are justifiably complaining about that, but people are focusing on sora shirai and felipe mota, when mickey papa is being overlooked as the one who was the most negatively affected by just barely not making the finals cut when he easily and obviously should have. (sora shirai was also underscored, but still made it to the finals anyways, and felipe mota, after getting robbed on the bigspin hurricane, missed his next three trick attempts, although the bad score may have thrown him off) mickey papa got a score of 7.0 for the following run: 1) kickflip 50/50 on medium gap rail 2) kickflip boardslide on medium rail 3) nollie heelflip over gap 4) nosegrind on small rail 5) kickflip 5-0 on stair hubba 6) bigspin boardslide on kink rail 7) 360 flip over gap 8) kickflip lipslide on big rail that was 8 perfectly landed tricks with no sketchiness, 7 of the 8 were flip/spin tricks (4 of which were kickflip + rail/ledge combos, plus the bigpsin rail trick)... and that only got a 7.0!? compare that to some later run scores, including many runs - with falls - that got *higher* scores: - alex midler's first run, comparable if not slightly easier, got an 8.1 - midler's second run, fell once and got a 7.4 - vincent milou's first run, fell on his last trick and got a 7.8 - luan oliviera's first run, totally flubbed his last trick and got an 8.4 - nyjah huston's first run, fell on his second trick and got a 7.8 there are more examples/comparisons in later heats too, but clearly mickey papa deserved more like an 8.0 - 8.5 run score (at least), which would have given him at least another point and put him somewhere in 5th-8th place. the skaters who made the top 8 were all excellent and earned their spots, so not intending to take anything away from them or their performances, and it would really have sucked for whoever ended up in the 9th spot and didn't make the cut... but regardless, mickey papa was definitely scored unfairly and inconsistently on his run score, and it cost him the spot in the finals.
People are saying it’s too early and that’s why Sora got a lower score than deserved. personally, I don’t see any excuse at all and I believe in that instance that the judges messed up and made a really poor call which did not reflect the proper score in the end.
I've definitely noticed Sora being underscored in a lot of competitions... Dew tour and Olympics he was definitely underscored on a lot of tricks. Also I think it just happens a lot of the younger skaters who don't have the same name recognition as the more established guys. Definitely a bias on judging.
You can: Mike Mo Capaldi, Billy Marks, Davis Torgerson, Jimmy Gorecki, and Scott Pfaff as per the SLS website and a video they dropped bragging about their judges earlier this week.
Seriously need to step it up on the judging. I'm tired of watching first heat get shafted all the damn time. Clean ranks if you have to, bigspin to hurricane a 7.8, blow me judges.
It’s like they’re hesitant to throw out big scores early on??? I don’t know. I watched that first heat like damnnn what is gonna take for a 9 club this year….
Did y’all catch one of the commentators being shushed when he started to talk about the judging on Felipe Mota? Judges aren’t being “Consistently Tough” they’re tough on specific pros for no reason even when they do mad tricks, showing favoritism and keeping progression back. Be real SLS
It's way less stressful to watch this and not pretend it's a competition. Just great skating. Still heartbreaking to see Mota get thrown off after getting fucked. Kids been doing this for years now. Deserves some respect.
I never ever bash the judges on these things, but heat 1 and 2 were scored super harsh compared to heat 3. Prods switch run with a bail was the only first run in heat 3 with a bail that deserved that score. Some favouritism going on there, maybe unintentional but definitely happened.
Come on judges 8.6 a suciu grind (yeah I really know thats a hard trick!) And 7.8 for a bigsping fs hurricane? Pfff Mota GOT ROBBED FOR SURE! Mota trick was minimum 8.2 or something like that but 7.8? Are you kidding me?
This is what happens when the judges are friends with half of the players. It needs to be like old school Olympics. Representatives from multiple countries and a legit scoring guideline. This is getting outtta hand. Your gonna lose your Olympic rights if it’s gets too bad. Rome could turn into a much bigger tour if they need it to.
Why in hell were people getting the same score for falling off in third/fourth heat, compared to incredible "landing everything" runs in the first/second heat???? WTF
I feel like Sora got screwed in the first round and was seriously rooting for him the whole time. A lot of other athletes were wayy too relaxed and kinda just flubbed their way through this and sora still came up top. Looking forward to finals!!
I know we have all done it. Finally seeing doin especially a flip trick normal or into a grind. Seein it slow motion. I feel like Paul and Shane can see every tinny movement everytime. Zero hope. All 100 knowing. Also they play the pockets of a skateboard. Either way there insane
When im talkin about slow motion im referring to having a really good day skateboarding. Where things go perfect everything feels good. When im talkin about Prod im talking about his board control. Hes way more sure or aware whats gonna happen. His style shows it. When im saying playin the pockets there feet when they pop a trick is never at the end of the tail or nose
It would be nice to have a parallel competition just for "SLS Legends" and have Torey, Malto, Koston, Sandoval, Tiago, Paul, Sheckler, Cole, etc. so we can enjoy their skating without worrying about the competition and trying to do crazy things like the 20's years old guys here.
1:54:25 Alex does an insane back 360 front nose blunt and gets a 8.7 and nyjah gets the highest score in sls history when he did it smh 🤦♂️ it’s not cuz of the progression of sls it’s bc the judges expect a robot instead of a pro, So annoying. Nose blunt is at 1:53:54. Very very horrible calls this comp 7.8 for a big spin hurricane is the dumbest crap I ever heard. If Nyjah did it it would be like a freaking 10.
Pretty sure i like the prelims better then the finals. Gets boring watching the same pros pull the same tricks for Nyjah to score above EVERYONE for competitively similar tricks.
They really need to change the heats around better. They keep most of the top guys for last and its so unfair for the other guys. And they say oh its tough being in the first heat cause theres been no scores yet but come on how many sls events have there been in the past we know what tricks people do, they should have a set amount of points for each trick individually then put them together then take the clean/style into the score after. Lol get it together judges.

This contest started off on an extremely sour note and these people ought to take responsibility for their obvious blunders. Shameful show for being premier organizers.
Great course and great competition between the skaters I really missed street league love skateboarding 🛹 can’t wait till the finals it’s going to be so good!
Sls judging is probably the most inconsistent scoring I’ve ever seen. Have watched everyone and every single comp it’s so different. Just glad they added the 2nd line section back in.
As others have said, there is no excuse for giving a bigspin hurricane a 7.8. When the judges came out scoring low I was like “ok fine as long as it stays like this” - but then it just didn’t. The scores basically went back to normal, so they just screwed over the first heat. Sora made it but the fact it was ever in doubt is insane. None of the scores from the first heat logically compare to anything that came later
"that was the best trick I've seen in street league in a long time" ... 7.8
😆🤬
"Wha-the judges?? What's wrong with you guys!? Man...that was a straight up 9!!"
You gotta appreciate him calling on that immediatly.
I can understand lower scoring at the start of preliminaries but that was ridiculous.
Almost spoiled it. Do better SLS.
almost? more like they did screwed it
Shane do a easy sw flip fs board on a small rail. Big spin hurricane at the big rail 7.8. 0 sense 😂
Had me screaming.
Yeah just ask Micky Papa. He got hosed. He should've been top 8 for sure.
Eso no se puede permitir...hasta mi abuela se dió cuenta!

mickey papa got a score of 7.0 for the following run:
1) kickflip 50/50 on medium gap rail
2) kickflip boardslide on medium rail
3) nollie heelflip over gap
4) nosegrind on small rail
5) kickflip 5-0 on stair hubba
6) bigspin boardslide on kink rail
7) 360 flip over gap
8) kickflip lipslide on big rail
that was 8 perfectly landed tricks with no sketchiness, 7 of the 8 were flip/spin tricks (4 of which were kickflip + rail/ledge combos, plus the bigpsin rail trick)... and that only got a 7.0!?
compare that to some later run scores, including many runs - with falls - that got *higher* scores:
- alex midler's first run, comparable if not slightly easier, got an 8.1
- midler's second run, fell once and got a 7.4
- vincent milou's first run, fell on his last trick and got a 7.8
- luan oliviera's first run, totally flubbed his last trick and got an 8.4
- nyjah huston's first run, fell on his second trick and got a 7.8
there are more examples/comparisons in later heats too, but clearly mickey papa deserved more like an 8.0 - 8.5 run score (at least), which would have given him at least another point and put him somewhere in 5th-8th place.
the skaters who made the top 8 were all excellent and earned their spots, so not intending to take anything away from them or their performances, and it would really have sucked for whoever ended up in the 9th spot and didn't make the cut... but regardless, mickey papa was definitely scored unfairly and inconsistently on his run score, and it cost him the spot in the finals.
And that sir is why i did not have time to write my essay. I had to write an essay on something more important
Mickey was robbed
I couldn't agree more. Micky got absolutely robbed on a level hardly seen. That first heat had totally different scoring. What a joke.
#rubric
and mickys lazer flip bs lip slide was also amazing and got not the love it deserved from the judges
sora and mota getting absolutely robbed for some of their scores wtf sls?
People are saying it’s too early and that’s why Sora got a lower score than deserved. personally, I don’t see any excuse at all and I believe in that instance that the judges messed up and made a really poor call which did not reflect the proper score in the end.
They made a poor call on his run, so much so that they seemed to just keep giving out poor scores. 7.8 for Mota’s big spin hurricane was criminal
Then they give Milou a 7.8 for his line, where he fell…
sora shirai save to final...but mickey papa....oo god...he good too
@@stevo3938 I don't think that's been done in any SLS before. Which makes the low score so much worse.

30:07 in 2022 a big spin hurricane is only a 7.8. Judges wack again

I love how Geoff rowly called them out.
i wish we could see who the judges are so we can call them out on their social media hahaha

Bigsping Hurricane 7.8 ? Dude mota got robbed? What judges are watching? A game of football?

nice to see Rowley stick up for Mota like that

I give the judges a 3.8 for Shari’s 7.9 and a 2.8 for Mota’s 7.8.
Really glad they fixed the format where the line score actually matters! Really interesting park design too…very different than the norm and I dig it!
Too bad the scoring is so ridiculously inconsistent....

Berger’s second line was a 7.5 at worst and he got a 5.
