Not Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Andy Murray or the Williams sisters. Steffi Graf is the only tennis player to ever win the Golden Slam (winning the Australian Open, French Open, British Open and US Open + Olympic Gold Medal in the same year). Check out the highlights of the gold medal match between German legend Steffi Graf and iconic player Gabriela Sabatini from Argentina.

Forget numbers of titles, this woman is the only person male or female to ever win a Calendar Golden Slam she owns it all by herself and in my eyes she is the greatest tennis player of all time because a Golden Calendar Slam is the most difficult thing to achieve in one year Congratulations Steffi Graf

@Children of Light: In addition, Graf is the only player (men or women) to win the "Super Slam" (4 Majors, WTA-/ATP Championship, Olympic Gold Medal) within one year (from WTA Championship 1987 to the Olympic Games 1998) - about 10 months an 1 week.
Only three other players achieved a Career Super Slam - S. Williams and Andre Agassi...

There's some arbitrariness to what statistics the media chooses to amplify over other statistics. Martina Navratilova won 6 consecutive slams without skipping any, and she basically never gets credit for that other than on these statistic compilations on Wikipedia and various places. Graf's achievement was actually greater than the 88 golden slam, because her slam win streak extended to 5 in 1989. So she should actually be given credit for a greater achievement than what she actually accomplished. And so should Martina. 0:23

Steffi Graf was such an immensely talented and classy player. Even though she retired at ONLY at 30 years of age, dealt with injuries (ankle injury, knee surgery and many more), personal problems dealing with her dad Peter Graf's income tax evasion, alcoholism, extramarital affair and generally high unforced errors in her games all throughout her career, she still managed to claim 22 grand slam titles, a golden slam and gold at Seoul Olympics. I still believe Steffi Graf is the GOAT in women's tennis. Women's tennis has never been the same after she retired.

A truly monumental day in tennis history in which the greatest female athlete of all time reached the pinnacle of this wonderful sport by winning the Calendar Slam (she would later go on to win the Seoul Olympics as well, making the Golden Calendar Slam), something that will never be achieved in tennis ever again. Many have tried and failed (Borg, Navratilova, Williams) and others will crack under the immense pressure like Djokovic at the upcoming US Open. Not Steffi though, she was truly one of a kind and in a class of her own.

      Serena is the GOAT
      - best service technique, pressure serving, aces and unreturned serves the game has ever seen
      - raised by a father who had no professional experience or even casual experience with the sport
      - overcame racist structure of naysayers, elitists and wealthy sexists who tried to keep her family out entirely
      - targeted 5-10x the average player for discriminatory drug testing (never once tested positive)
      - has won all 4 grand Slams in a row twice (only Laver and Graf have also done)
      - has won all 4 grand slams in a row in BOTH singles and doubles
      - 14-0 in Grand Slam ladies doubles finals (Graf totally neglects this essential part of our sport!)
      - most titles won at Indian Wells, Miami, the two biggest titles by far outside the Slams
      - went undefeated on clay in 2013, racking up 1 hartru and 4 red clay titles (not even Evert or Nadal has won this many clay titles in one year while going undefeated)
      - actually had to play her SF at the USO the year she went for calendar Slam (Graf got a freebie at the hardest stage of the CYGS pursuit; a walkover from Evert before the match started, reducing Graf’s “Slam” to only 27, not 28, matches played and won)
      - defeated the 22-time GS champion Graf in a MASSIVE tournament, the championship match, as an inexperienced teenager in 1999
      - surpassed Graf’s record of 22 slams while PREGNANT
      - overcame more injuries, life threatening surgeries, emergencies and personal tragedies than any other player
      - despite all this, the greatest dominance across 3 decades of any player male or female
      - career longevity truly unmatched, emerging with winning H2H records against legends from 4 decades
      - more majors won while match points down than any player in memory
      - advanced/innovated/forever changed women’s game to unforetold levels in power, foot speed, return aggression, serving variety, equal prize money, international presence and business success
      - did not have the supreme benefit of having her #1 kryponite rival being stabbed in the back by her own fan at the pinnacle of her young career
      - considered the greatest player of all time unanimously by Evert, Navratilova, King, McEnroe, and many others

But not more than Grandslam titles in Tennis sport.
Rafael Nadal,Andre Agassi,Andy Murray,Steffi Graff and Serena Williams are the proves in open era
Playing for nation and winning Olympic gold medal for country is bigger achievement than atp finals title also though it doesn't have atp ranking points etc
Grandslams>Olympic gold 🏅>Atp finals titles>atp masters titles in open era for athletes and pro tennis players
Atp finals is hard and tough but my family never heard about atp finals titles like Grandslams and Olympics also in their life
Winning Olympic gold medal for country is important and bigger than Winning atp finals title actually.
Only 8 players will Play atp finals which is held every year but Olympics held every 4 years that's why it is hard
If it is not important Djokovic would not play Olympics 2008,2012,2016,
2020/2021 or feel sad like that actually.

In '91 - early '93 the best wta athlete was Monica, one and only, #1 WTA, and Seles won 3 of 4 most important matches H2H pre-stabbing against stefi. Or do you mean that final in Roland Garros it's equivalent to final in Hamburg?
Final in san antonio it's equivalent to final in Australian Open? Super Mega LOL :-D :-D :-D
But stefi was indisputed N#2 , not bad! Please, no cherry-picking thanks a lot!

Because no one was near it. Steffi was considered to be the GOAT because she won the most slams and dominated the field the most. Serena's been more dominant then Steffi, with harder competition and no competitors that were dominating her and simply got injured before their prime. And to think that Serena's probably taken the most injury time off of any top 10 tennis player ever.

A lot of people wete expecting steffi to have a let down at the Olympics. After winning the grand slam at the US Open, she talked about how exhausted she was mentally and just wanted to sleep in her hotel room. As it was, she was only in trouble once at the olympics when she was a break down in the final set against Savchenko. The "let down" would happen a couple of months later when she lost at the WTA tour finals to Pam Shriver.

@@yussepig6629 H2H Graf vs. Seles 10:5; Seles never won Wimbledon - was destroyed even in her best year in 1992 by Graf! Williams has only 1 GS more, but remember: the numer of Majors is not a strong criterion to be No 1 at all, because there are players who have won several Majors, but never were No 1 (Mandlikova - 4 x Majors, but "only" No. 3) - and on the other hand there are players who were No 1 without a Major title (Jankovic: only one (!!) final in a Major/USO 2008).
The strongest criterion is without any doubt the duration at the top of the ranking list because it includes Majors as well as other important tournaments. And Williams only won 73 titles over 20 years (the 73rd title at the age of 38) - ridiculous with respect of GOAT or not GOAT. Chris Evert - title No. 73 USO at the age of 22 (!); Steffi Graf - 73rd title FO 1993 at the age of 24 years; Navratilova title No. 73 at the age of 27.

      1962 and 1969- Rod Laver
      1970- Margaret Court
      1988- Steffi Graf
Steffi is the only one who won the Golden Calendar Slam (all 4 majors in the same year and the Olympic gold medal).
It’s way more difficult to win all 4 Slams in the same calendar year than to win four in a row in any other manner.
Besides, this is an Olympic channel and Steffi completed her Golden Slam at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in September. Djokovic has achieved no such thing so why should an Olympics channel give him a video??? Stop playing the victim.
