Forget numbers of titles, this woman is the only person male or female to ever win a Calendar Golden Slam she owns it all by herself and in my eyes she is the greatest tennis player of all time because a Golden Calendar Slam is the most difficult thing to achieve in one year Congratulations Steffi Graf
@Children of Light: In addition, Graf is the only player (men or women) to win the "Super Slam" (4 Majors, WTA-/ATP Championship, Olympic Gold Medal) within one year (from WTA Championship 1987 to the Olympic Games 1998) - about 10 months an 1 week. Only three other players achieved a Career Super Slam - S. Williams and Andre Agassi...
There's some arbitrariness to what statistics the media chooses to amplify over other statistics. Martina Navratilova won 6 consecutive slams without skipping any, and she basically never gets credit for that other than on these statistic compilations on Wikipedia and various places. Graf's achievement was actually greater than the 88 golden slam, because her slam win streak extended to 5 in 1989. So she should actually be given credit for a greater achievement than what she actually accomplished. And so should Martina. 0:23

@@yussepig6629 H2H Graf vs. Seles 10:5; Seles never won Wimbledon - was destroyed even in her best year in 1992 by Graf! Williams has only 1 GS more, but remember: the numer of Majors is not a strong criterion to be No 1 at all, because there are players who have won several Majors, but never were No 1 (Mandlikova - 4 x Majors, but "only" No. 3) - and on the other hand there are players who were No 1 without a Major title (Jankovic: only one (!!) final in a Major/USO 2008). The strongest criterion is without any doubt the duration at the top of the ranking list because it includes Majors as well as other important tournaments. And Williams only won 73 titles over 20 years (the 73rd title at the age of 38) - ridiculous with respect of GOAT or not GOAT. Chris Evert - title No. 73 USO at the age of 22 (!); Steffi Graf - 73rd title FO 1993 at the age of 24 years; Navratilova title No. 73 at the age of 27.
Matthias W crazy when you consider that mens tennis has improved quite a bit. Ive started to watch some of the matches between graf and seles lately and i am amazed how high the level is. Also when one takes into account the improvements in raquet technology.
So only few single players have won the career golden slam. We know it's really hard ro achieve. This calendar year golden slam is just exceptional. 30+ years and noone else has achieved it. This one record really sets Steffi apart. Also, what most missed is that this Seoul win also made her the only player who's done the non-calendar year super slam.
bellabana You keep saying that Graf would have beaten Serena, yet you're too stupid to do you research and realize that Serena beat Graf in their last encounter...when she was a teenager.
Steffi was a great athlete, nothing more. Her windmill forehand was ugly, her backhand a constant slice. She won far more than she warranted because of a gap of great players in her time. Halap would destroy her.
Lets not forget Agassi was a huge factor in favor of Graf's retirement. Steffi dedicated herself to Andre and he won 4 or 5 more Slams with Steffi by his side before his career was over too.
My favorite is the '97 or '98 French Open Final against Martina Hingis when she came back to win in epic fashion so much so she had Hingis crying and not wanting to participate in the trophy🏆ceremony!!!
A lot of people wete expecting steffi to have a let down at the Olympics. After winning the grand slam at the US Open, she talked about how exhausted she was mentally and just wanted to sleep in her hotel room. As it was, she was only in trouble once at the olympics when she was a break down in the final set against Savchenko. The "let down" would happen a couple of months later when she lost at the WTA tour finals to Pam Shriver.
Dimitry, yes I agree and I have no animus towards Novak Djokovic I get no pleasure in his disappointment, it’s just the Millennials have taken almost every single WTA and ATP honor there is except Steffi’s Golden Slam. I want Generation X to keep that one.
A friend and I on the tennis team back in HS used to joke that Sabatini was on the take. She had so many 2nd finishes and hardly any wins. So we hoped she made some extra money on the side for these runner-up finishes.
@Max E lol remember when a fan asked "will you marry me?" she answered "how much money do you have?"... with 8 grand slams and olympic gold Andre had obviously enough money and won the match.
And there are only three players who won the "Super Slam" - Graf, Agassi and S. W. Graf won the S.S. within about 10 months from November 1987 (WTA Champiuonships) up to September 1988 (Olympic Games Seoul 1988)... Agassi and S.W. needed some years.
None of the men have won the Grand Slam let alone the Golden slam. Williams sisters never won the grand slam. Navratilova as dominate as she was winning 74 straight matches and 6 grand slams in a row NEVER won it. Steffi Graf won the first Grand Slam since 1953. First Golden Slam. Been 32 years since the last grand slam. We're about due for another one. Golden Slam? Maybe once in a life time event.
In addition Graf won the "Super Slam" (WTA Ch.-sh., 4 Majors, Olympic Games) within 10 monzths 1987/88. Only two other players won a Super Slam - within several years: Andre Agassi and S.W.
@@carrerau7138 The technique has changed drastically and she would have grown up learning it if she played in this generation! You can't even spell "idiot" MORON!

It’s way more difficult to win all 4 Slams in the same calendar year than to win four in a row in any other manner. Besides, this is an Olympic channel and Steffi completed her Golden Slam at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in September. Djokovic has achieved no such thing so why should an Olympics channel give him a video??? Stop playing the victim.

And in the short history in which it has, she is the *only one to do it. The Las Vegas Knights are the only expansion team to ever make the NHL Playoffs, but by your logic, giving them that distinction is not fair, because expansion teams only occur every 15 to 20 years and there always have not been playoffs in the NHL.
Yes. And the people who achieved the Grand Slam never did it in Olympic years. Budge in 1938, Connolly in 1953, Laver in 1962 and 1969 and Court in 1970.

2020/2021 or feel sad like that actually.
Atp finals title is one of the biggest and prestigious title in open era also
It would be great if Rafael Nadal wins it but he is mostly tired and fatigue during atp finals most of the time.
If atp finals is best of 5 set then I will put it above Olympic gold medal also
But it is not so I will put below that
Big players like Rafael Nadal,Andre Agassi,Steffi Graff,Serena Williams and Andy Murray in open era did it.
So it is not wrong to put above atp finals titles.
The greatest woman to ever play the game no doubt 💯
Seles better. Serena way better
Seles, Williams, and many others were better tennis players than Graf.
@@lilydog1000... and many others... Ok, stupid boy.👎
Steffi is the greatest that ever played...loved gaby too
This was a great rivalry. I wish there had been more matches between them. And they played each other 40 times.
Lol the women then played so much better than today
true
Matthias W crazy when you consider that mens tennis has improved quite a bit. Ive started to watch some of the matches between graf and seles lately and i am amazed how high the level is. Also when one takes into account the improvements in raquet technology.
I don't see what you guys are thinking. The women now either hit twice as hard or are twice as fast as the 90's women.
Twice as hard or fast? First of all, no. Secondly, what is the difference between hard and fast? How does one measure hard?
Hey, you look so familiar.
Out of the three players that have reached career super slam, two married each other. LOL
That's not a forehand, that's a howitzer cannon.
Go ahead hit to my forehand, I DARE YOU!
Steffi would easily beat Serena if she was still playing, such a pity Williams hasn't had any decent competition since Kim Clysters & Henin retired.
bellabana yeah, her only challenge has been her own age... Sharapova, Azarenka, and the others just aren't consistent top players
bellabana You keep saying that Graf would have beaten Serena, yet you're too stupid to do you research and realize that Serena beat Graf in their last encounter...when she was a teenager.
Illya Kuryakin And? That was Steffi's peak. Serena didn't even peak until her early twenties (and then again in her thirties LOL).
She's a legend❤❤❤
Who else already misses The Olympics?
I loved it the way it was....
Lmao how different is it now? Why do people covet everything in the past as if everythingggg was better back then
Daniel Fagboyegun from the looks of it, it was. And I'm only 14. The points were very well played and it didn't get boring.
Lol thats true i guess. Super interesting points. You get that occasionally though. I'm sure its more often than not if you watch tennis alot
True Allie.. It didn't get boring..Thank you for the comment..
Not everything was better in the past, but a lot....
2 gorgeous ladies ....
And an awesome game ....
Still the GOAT.
Women's tennis was a much quieter game back then!
Not only it's so hard to achieve, there are also only two quest for golden slam ever happening. One accomplished, one failed.
and with a much smaller racket then they use today... a remarkable athlete!!
That was not a “let down“ in the Shriver match.
Steffi was ill and had fever, simple as that. Should not have played.
💎 of Tennis...... ❤
The best ever.. the only true goat 🐐!!!
Serena way way better. Seles way better. Etc
@@yussepig6629 lol🤣🤣🤣
GOAT
I think Steffi had the best slice backhand ever in tennis . Rosewall very close with her .
Indeed. It was deadly.
Federer? I think 90% agree Federer has the best slice, but Graf is definently 2nd.
Graf what a player.she obviously is the best ever but she had such style.charisma.class.what we have today is one dimensional grunting pigs
Steffi Graf shall remain the only person on this planet to have a Golden Slam……😁
Expected. Steffi is in a league of her own and the undisputed GOAT.
Dimitry, yes I agree and I have no animus towards Novak Djokovic I get no pleasure in his disappointment, it’s just the Millennials have taken almost every single WTA and ATP honor there is except Steffi’s Golden Slam. I want Generation X to keep that one.
And only one to get main rival stabbed
Should have entered the olympics 100m dash
when women didn't have to grunt...
Grunt and scream.
Yup....
Legend!
Do you have the match of Andre Agassi Vs Leander Paes (Atlanta Olympics 1996) ?
Sorry, we don't have that one yet. We'll let you know once we do. :)
Great. Thanks for the reply ! :)
Andre Rihu
A friend and I on the tennis team back in HS used to joke that Sabatini was on the take. She had so many 2nd finishes and hardly any wins. So we hoped she made some extra money on the side for these runner-up finishes.
To be fair tennis wasn’t in the olympics till Stef era
It was also an olympic sports from 1896-1924
I wanted to see all five slam/Olympic highlights.
1:29 photographer Nick Ut 🤔
She retired early.... Otherwise she would have easily breaked the record of Margaret court of 24 GS in singles
Did anyone notice, that Graf and Agassi both have won a Golden Slam? Graf a calendar, Agassi a career GoS! Great couple!
@Max E lol remember when a fan asked "will you marry me?" she answered "how much money do you have?"... with 8 grand slams and olympic gold Andre had obviously enough money and won the match.
@Max E yup.
And there are only three players who won the "Super Slam" - Graf, Agassi and S. W. Graf won the S.S. within about 10 months from November 1987 (WTA Champiuonships) up to September 1988 (Olympic Games Seoul 1988)... Agassi and S.W. needed some years.
So back then there were no agonizing screams and load noises from women tennis?!
Not on an hourly basis.
Legend
The GOAT.... The rest ... are a distant 2nd. That includes the 195 lb. Serena Williams
Lying to yourself is a way of consoling yourself
@@magnetmac1 Court and even Navratilova are not very far behind Steffi.
Evert, King and Serena are, though.

Sabatini serve was a huge weakness she was a chronic underachiever.
At this time, Woman Tennis was nearly as Good as Man Tennis 🎾

None of the men have won the Grand Slam let alone the Golden slam. Williams sisters never won the grand slam. Navratilova as dominate as she was winning 74 straight matches and 6 grand slams in a row NEVER won it. Steffi Graf won the first Grand Slam since 1953. First Golden Slam. Been 32 years since the last grand slam. We're about due for another one. Golden Slam? Maybe once in a life time event.
2 Mark my words djokovic Will get golden grand slam this year
@Max E i mean gentlams series also deserve one golden slam holder
@@Mitke420 he lost to another german
In addition Graf won the "Super Slam" (WTA Ch.-sh., 4 Majors, Olympic Games) within 10 monzths 1987/88. Only two other players won a Super Slam - within several years: Andre Agassi and S.W.
In 1988, these were the two sexiest girls in the world. Gabby is still a perfect 10 today at age 47...
So is Steffi, even today in 2022.

I just know that there are British open in Tennis 😀 . It's Wimbledon and let's keep it that way I think
It's amazing that the their technique is so dated! Neither one of them follow through on their forehands especially compared to today's players!
Yeah, today‘s players surely could teach Steffi how to hit a forehand.
You idyot.
@@carrerau7138 The technique has changed drastically and she would have grown up learning it if she played in this generation! You can't even spell "idiot" MORON!

The same Olympics we saw the beautiful Flo Jo making her mark.
And no TUEs too. It counts double.
it's strange hearing Federal Republic of Germany(West) again.
The Federal Republic of Germany was established in 1949 and thankfully still exists today. At least according to my passport.
How strange of you to just FORGET mentioning Djokovic who at that time, has connected 4 grand slams.
Djokovic never won the prestigious Calendar Grand Slam. Only 5 players have achieved this:
1938- Don Budge
1953- Maureen Connolly
1962 and 1969- Rod Laver
1970- Margaret Court
1988- Steffi Graf
Steffi is the only one who won the Golden Calendar Slam (all 4 majors in the same year and the Olympic gold medal).
@@PravoslavniVitez check the description and see that they have forgotten to mention djokovic but have mentioned less successful players. literally tl;dr for your comment, sorry, no time.

Manuela Maleeva and Zina Garrison

not to start anything....but....it really isn't fair to claim her as the only one in history because....tennis hasn't always been an olympic sport.....it was for awhile...then stopped then started again....so....yes...it is true.that she is the only player to do so......but some never had the opportunity......always that asterik

Rod laver did it twice, but steffi is the only women’s player
Rod Laver never won the Golden Grand Slam. He never won a gold medal period.
19 year old Steffi Graf. Dominant Aryan Goddess.

What relevance does Seles have with Steffi winning the Olympics? Lol.
