- As India strives to become a fully developed country by 2047, Greenfield Smart Cities are taking center stage. Leading this transformation is Rajkot in Gujarat, where the Atal Sarovar, a vibrant urban oasis, has recently been developed. Chetan Nandani, CEO of Rajkot Smart City, highlights the paradigm shift the Smart City mission brings in terms of ease of living, climate change, transport, and data utilization. Atal Sarovar, spanning 75 acres, serves as a social and recreational hub with amenities like a toy train, jogging and cycle tracks, boating, and a ferris wheel. Vaike Goswami, General Manager Technical, Rajkot Smart City, introduces the concept of the fourth 'R'-recreation-enhancing the traditional 3Rs of reduce, recycle, and reuse. The lake also supports water conservation efforts as part of the 930-acre Greenfield Smart City Plan. All utilities in Rajkot Smart City are underground, including ICT ducts, power supply, and sewerage, with a 20 km BRTS and cycle track. Treated water from a tertiary treatment plant will be discharged into Atal Lake, ensuring sustainable water management. The serene waters of Atal Sarovar are creating ripples of inspiration for future smart city projects in Rajkot.
