actually pantograph is connected with contact wire...the upper wire is called catenary wire and the lower wire is calles contact wire..and the middle droppers....
I have always be fascinated by pantographs. I've wondered how they worked and how much wear and tear the pantograph receives. Old street cars had a different connector. I don't know it was called a pantograph or something else. It was a slender pole and probably received a lot of wear, It also sparked a lot. Some buses had two of these pantographs. I was a boy then now I'm old. LA took the last of the street cars out of service in 1962. They and the pantograph buses sat in a yard for many years. It was an environmental disaster.
