Thank you so much. I have only heard about this class in passing and have never really understood what role it was supposed to fill. Now I know it is very open and full of choices to play into almost any play style. How exciting!
That was great! Love the gauntlet idea, though I think I would split the three paragraphs of abilities into unlockable rarities, so the item could grow with an Illrigger's journey. Also, I love the artwork process shown during the review. Great touch.
Really enjoying your videos and art and all the inspiration they bring!!! I think I know what main class my next character is gonna be!! I’ll have her be an elderly elf who plays into her reputation of being the neighborhood grandma so no one thinks she’s dangerous. And to the people in her neighborhood, she isn’t, because that’s her territory! But anyone outside of that or someone hurts a person within her turf, it’s a different story all together. Bit like a benevolent crime boss lol She’ll take the pact that lets her be like a rogue and eventually I’ll have her take a level or two in Bard. Her bardic inspiration comes in the form of ‘Back in my day…’ stories and hard candies, and vicious mockery is her other go to! Think I can pitch the idea to my friends of her coming to see their characters as her grandkids and she likes adventuring with them because she feels young again! Lol …And I just realized I basically did a character creation in your comment section. Sorry, I got kinda excited^^;;;;
The Illrigger has such a glut of options for customization, i can't help bit try to theorycraft a build for each subclass: "Bravado for Hellspeaker, no wait, maybe the ranged seal+conduit, acrually that works better for a Sanguine Knight, but it also allows melee ranged attacks, do I think an Architect might want to stay at range? Which Interdictions to I pick for Shadowmaster, which for Painkiller?" And on and so forth. I haven't considered it yet as I only picked up the MCDM 5e bundle classes today, but I'm sure there are ideas for reflavoring the Illrigger. My go-to alternate is "cyberpunk; magic = tech" for which the seals, and blend of martial with magic, make the best "cyber-enhaced" character ideas, in my experience. Each subclass belonging to a different soulless Magacorp specialty (espionage, subterfuge, technology, pharmaceuticals, paramilitary) comes to mind. I would love to see a 5 member All-Illrigger party: Stealth, Face/Control, support/heal, utility/damage, tank/damage all in one class; plus each having a way to contribute tactically beyond the broad archetype, such as Painkiller being able to grant bonus moves or attacks to allies, or Hellspeaker's Honey-Sweet Blades giving themselves a way to hit hard with a weapon. Revised Illrigger is just really robust. The only one I question is Architect of Ruin, only because of not knowing what spells to prioritize with the restriction on 4th lvl max spells and the need to get most-bang-for-buck. That said, the thematic flavor of the spell-list is really solid. Vengeful Blade cantrip is a great weapon cantrip that I realized should have been in WotC's library as soon as I read it. I think I'd go for a spellblade Architect unless I really wanted to specifcally NOT build for that. A dark knight with Command and other "imperious hellristocrat" spells could be grand; would need to be a melee weapon user with Lies style so that spells could be as strong as possible without sacrificing non-spell effectiveness; it would be a shame to waste Extra Attack. I digress... Painkiller is, I feel, the best interpretation of Darth Vader as "Sith Anakin" i've come across, with the combination of brutal force, tactical maneuvering and inspiring personality. Instead of being limited to a hulking monstrosity, this Vader retains the Skywalker charm and wisdom displayed in the Clone Wars. Flight of Fancy; The Old Republic Illriggers: Painkiller = Sith Juggernaut Sanguine Knight = Sith Alchemist Architect = Sith Sorceror Shadowmaster = Sith Assassin Hellspeaker = Sith Emissary
I know this was posted almost a year ago, but I do believe you are reviewing the Illrigger Revised. If so, you can burn seals as a result of dealing damage to the creature yourself. With Infernal Conduit, it says you take the full damage being healed when using Invigorate, not just half (I think the older version was half). I am currently playing an Architect of Ruin Illrigger set in the Grim Hollow campaign setting, so it's been real fun. They're a Downcast (a race specific to the setting that is similar to a Fallen Aasimar) that is slowly undergoing a transformation into a Fiend (another mechanic of the setting), so coupling those features and flavor with this class has felt awesome. I will say that some of the other players are a bit overwhelmed with just how many things the character can do, but not necessarily with the potency of what he can do if that makes sense. So I think your assessment is correct... this class is jam-packed with just stuff, but I personally like that.
I played the older version of the shadowmaster and I gotta say the niche it filled was really cool, and the ability and movement was very nice... but they're damage output was abyssmal and the lack of defensive options along with a limited armour class meant they weren't super effective in the combats my table ran. She ended up being retired but maybe a new shadowmaster will come back at a later date. For now tho I'm playing a Talent, still too early to know the bits and bobs and details of their play style
Can't you burn the seals yourself since it says to burn them a interdiction creature needs to take damage from any source that isn't from burning a seal meaning u could just hit with a sword and burn it urself
Yes. I know this is a bit of an older post, but the wording just states that if the interdicted creatures suffers damage from any source (other than the burning of another seal), you can burn any number of seals on them. So you should be able to use a bonus action to mark a creature then, if you hit them with a weapon attack, burn that seal in response to your own weapon's damage.
Yes! A martial focused warlock. Long overdue, thank you Matt Colville.

I'll add the talent to the list xD that one is a significantly bigger puppy
I was interested in the illriger and I'm glad i found this, your voice is amazing and i also loved the drawing process!
Here to see that it was released on dnd beyond dope video

Painkiller = Sith Juggernaut

those all sound amazing!

So when are we gonna get a doom slayer like class?
Sweet when will the updated rules be available on roll20?
First ;)
Bad.
