I came here to be shocked by #4, but ended up staying for the very special episode of "Blossom".
Haha, I can't unseen it now. He does look like Blossom...😂
@@kharbury That was not why I said that. The blossom quip was literally a non sequiter solely for the sake of comedy. Oh well.
I first assumed it was click bate, tout then you dropped number four like a bomb. You need a stronger warning! Shocking was an understatement. I am typing this as I sit in the emergency room airing to have my heart checked because if the EXTREME shock of number four.
1. It is a marathon not a sprint. 2. You are only racing against yourself. 3. It is not worth to stay do things that make you upset or angry.
4. it is always the eldar players foult. 5. If it fun/good for you, it doesn't have to be fun/good others, and vice versa. 6. Better is the eternal enemy of good.
Amen!
I'm an old guy that's been showing some people that are new to the hobby how to paint (when they ask me). I just try showing the 'basics' first so they can get used to using a brush and paints, but they come back with these videos about all the 'secret tips and tricks' and I have to explain that they need to learn the basics first. Some people think they can watch a vid and learn a trick to make it easier, not hating on the 'tips and tricks' vids, but people need slaps some paint on minis and get a feel for it before trying to paint a Golden Demon winning mini. Love this video and I forwarded links to it before I even finished watching it, keep up the good work.
Another important note on following exact paint recipes from youtubers, is that a lot of time their paint selection is based on sponsorship deals and brand affinity, and not necessarily what might be the 'best' or only option.
I love when paint tutorials not only have the paints but also explain why this paint or tell you things like "I like this one because it's a light brown, but any light brown would do the job" matt's hobby hour is one of those channels
Today we find out what youtube videos Jay watches and they include a bunch of famous painters along with some ultralight backpacking memes
You're a really great painter! Love the larger pieces.
I'm pretty new to the hobby and definitely started by watching way too many videos. I totally understand the desire to make an "informed" purchase. I do think it was useful to build a baseline of painting knowledge even if I don't have the practice to execute everything at once. It's given me a direction to improve in.
But I highly agree with your point about mechanical practice. You just can't learn how to thin paints from a video because every brand is different and paint behaves differently between pigments, even. You have to practice with your tools to truly learn how to use them.
VERY NICE painting! And good inspirational vibes !🖤
I thought it was click bait, but #4 was truly shocking.
13:09 krylon ultra matte is fantastic and comes in a variety of colors.
It will stain the plastic if you go to strip them though.
When I was a FLGS owner I would get a lot of new hobbyists that would watch a GW painting video and would assume that it took 20 minutes to paint a miniature. I never understood why (mostly) painting videos don’t tell new hobbyists that this will take hours+.
Probably because that could scare people out of ever painting at all 😂
Great video! You guys need to do more like these! Valuable tips, some of which even us hobby veterans didn't know or consider? I've used a wide variety of brushes. My go-to has been the Army Painter Wargamer series brushes for the last two years. I've found them to be a great balance of price and quality. The several that I use the most I replace around once or twice per year. At the price that is sustainable. For dry brushes I prefer the GW/Citadel ones, the M and L natural hair dry brushes. Their Shade M brush is great too. Again, definitely more affordable range with some of their products. #4 was something I never considered, and I know several people that #5 is an important truth for them to gravitate towards so they enjoy the hobby more.
Where is Timmy? I get worried when I'm the worst guy in the room...
I almost answered your phone. I should be used to this by now. 😅
I make my own wash for terrain and love Dirty Down Rust effect. Not so wild about Moss but Verdigris is good. We do a weekly paint night through Facebook chat.
I didn't care for Dirty Down. Had a discussion with a friend the other day. It has a good colour tone, depending on what you put it on, but it's got this weird stickiness to it. I favour using the new AP Effects "Fresh Rust" and "Dark Rust" paints along with their "Rust Tone" wash. More options, and I like the texture in those paints.
I tried applying their moss to some wooden terrain I made. Not great results. I always find the range of effects paints bewildering. My experience is video reviewers either get better results or fail to note side effects. I use monument hobbies Newish quite a bit but it generally strips off some of my base coating for example.
Primer matters a lot too with how properly thin your paints should be. You need to make sure that you are using a miniature specific, WATER-BASED ACRYLIC PRIMER otherwise we're going to have a bad time getting water-based paints to absorb down into and set on a surface that chemically repels them. "Primer is primer" has resulted in so many new people being unhappy and bummed out with bad paintjobs because they're stacking layers of water on top of highly textured, thick oil paint and think that they are just bad at painting because Poorhammer said primer doesn't matter.
If you disagree with this, show me what your miniatures look like, macro shots please otherwise.... yeah they make it for a reason; use it and find out why.
The Hobbytown nearest to me is the place that never has what I need.
Hobbytown is THE brick and mortar store for airbrush parts-specifically badger patriot parts, and they didn’t have the bit I needed (that Teflon internal bit).
Call if they got a heavy Intecessors kit-they don’t have that.
They don’t have German grey OR duraluminum OR the Army Painter speed paint I was looking for or lamia medium which I needed to make a wash.
Nice figures! Was hoping to see what was on that shelf someday. Full store reveal at 10k subs and/or members only!
Nice bust, bro.
Number four left me shocked
This click-bait title got me...again!
i Am ShOcKeD!
Is #4 trench crusade??
Cool minis!
Where's a good place to purchase busts from?
So what would you say is the best paint set for a 6 year old?
I had my son (7) start with citadel paints and army painter paints. Everything he has done is unfinished and basic colors, but he has had fun for the 3 sessions he has sat down to paint. We use the smallest cheap brushes we can find and that's about enough. I try to ensure he's thinning paints with water before using. The important part is that he is sitting down at all. 😂 I'm refraining from overwhelming him with tips and tricks
Citadel paint + tools set for 55 cad is really good value
when you said practice practice practice it reminded me of the progamer fata1ty
