- In claiming what would be the only Cup Series championship of his career, Benny Parsons (Class of 2016) won just a single race, the July 7th Volunteer 500 at Bristol International Speedway (now Bristol Motor Speedway). And an impressive victory it was, as Parsons finished a whopping 7 laps ahead of second-place finisher L. D. Ottinger. Further back in the field, Parsons came home 53 laps ahead of 10th-place Henley Gray. For the season, staying on track was a key to Parsons’s success, as he was running at the finish of 21 races and completed more miles than any other driver in the series. Benny Parsons’ 1973 championship trophy is on display in the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s Heritage Speedway.
My family went to all the NASCAR tracks in N.C. In the 70 and 80s Benny was always a real gentleman on T.V. and radio. He got all he could with the money he had. Super nice guy. I enjoyed his work in the booth on tv 📺 Humble man.
Im a nobody racing fan. I've made my way around a few tracks and ended up at Talladega to see Earnhardts last victory before he died. What a race. At the airport i had the pleasure of running into Benny , he was the friendliest person i had ever met. To me and my friends. It was brief but we spoke of the race and cracked a few jokes and we went our separate ways. But i will say right here right now , i shook the hand of a legend , Benny Parsons .
I’m proud of growing up in nc around all this….it’s a shame what nascar has went to now but glad I got to live this.
I can't understand why they have to play music in the background! Talking with legends you need music!
I couldn't agree more - pisses me off
Absolutely! This happens on a lot of videos.
