"Curse" is the wrong word. "Stall" would be more appropriate. Jones knows the real fight to make is Aspinall, which is why he's choosing Stipe and Pereira first. And you can bet the house that he's internally fuming over Aspinall coming face to face with him the way he did. Jones is an egomaniacal sociopath and an alcoholic drug addict. Stalling the entire division while he's on top is the only thing in his life that he has control of and he's going to hold on to it as long as he can, because once that's over, it's literally all downhill for him
Exactly. I think jones *could* beat Aspinall, he has the skills and athleticism to do so. That being said, taking that fight presents a risk that holding on to a vapor-fight with Stipe does not. No one likes Jones, his reputation is built entirely on being unbeatable. So the moment he loses a fight legitimately (i.e, not a freak injury or DQ) , his career is done and he loses all the protection that Dana's given him throughout his career and he'll end up in jail and/or broke eventually.
It’s moronic that this Stipe fight is still being made. He’s 42, hasn’t fought in years and got brutally KOed last time he fought. If Jones really wants overall GOAT status, why not cap off your career with a win over a scary high fight IQ heavyweight that everyone thinks you’re running from?
Fighting Stipe is better for his GOAT status though. Even if beating him does nothing to add to his legacy if Jones fights Aspinall even he knows there’s a good chance he’d lose and that would have a hugely negative affect on his legacy.
@charliecharlie846 , those people who look for legacy know who Stipe is so you think Jones will be better Goat if he fights him? But those same people won't know Stipe was coming from a KO loss and also 3 years inactivity? That makes no sense. Stipe right now shouldn't make Jones's legacy better, thats saying like Paddy beating Tony makes Paddy's legacy better.

UFC will never do a cross over fight with pfl. They wouldn’t dare expose their audience to another mma promotion. They wouldn’t reward Francis for leaving ufc as well
It's clearly the other way around. If Jon gets stripped a Aspinall is promoted to full champ. It can only be seen as the guy who was ducking the interim ruined his only legacy by doing what he does best. Yes there might be an asterisk over the belt but it will be nothing like Algernon Toms been calling him out, he ducked him out... Aspinall IS the champ And I don't think he is happy with the way it's happened, it's just added to the joke of Jon ducking out of the true challenger. What you gonna do?
8:58 true but when the Jones vs Stipe was announced, no one has issues with it. No one. But now that the UFC has pushed Tom, ppl want to see him fight Jones which I understand but let's not pretend that we were ok with Jones vs Stipe in the beginning
I would rewatch the first few exchanges. Even Bisping who was calling this first fight for some reason was talking about how Tom “needs to be careful” as he was “caught with two huge right hands” and I hate to say it… Tom likely was going down after being wobbled without the knee injury in that exact exchange regardless. You’re right tom has shown that there’s no reason he won’t finish Curtis. But let’s not forget Curtis has lost only twice in the first round. Yes tom might be 3 but statistically it’s likely it won’t be round 1 especially if he’s planning for it and more so after Sergei. And let’s also not forget Tom has never in his entire 17 fight career has never even sniffed the 3rd round. Ever. We can learn a lot from this fight. We have absolutely zero clue about Tom’s gas tank. None. It’ll be a good one that’s for sure. Edit 5:10 actually hang on this must be said. You guys are so sure Tom wins vs Curtis but you’re not being objective saying Jon can go out the greatest. This has been my point ALL ALONG: if Jon fought Tom and beat him, you know what they’d say? You never fought Curtis, a wrestler who is hand made to beat you. People have been saying this for a year now already. And you guys are over here not acknowledging that reality. Tom always needed to correct this blemish. And frankly I thought it was a red flag he wasnt demanding it and again imo it had a lot to do with how in that short exchange the first fight Curtis was was clipping Tom at will. This was always the fight to make. Tom was wise to make this about Jon but it’s kinda wild you and everyone else let him almost get off not fighting Curtis. Not once did you say he needs to fight Curtis. That’s strange. The fact is, it’s very wise job fight Tom AFTER he beats Curtis. I think you’re objectively incorrect to say you can go out the greatest fighting Tom when jones can literally fight the winner kill 2 birds one stone . Im team Tom if he wins this fight and imo his grievance can begin. But it was never his grievance In the first place until he can beat curtis. He’s not fighting both and his legacy will be you ran from one of them. You guys know this though . Idk why people are so crazy like Jon is afraid of Tom. He’s not . Tom is a MONSTER. A very big, highly talented operator. But guys you telling Cyril wasn’t that too? Jon will right Tom we just are lost in the sauce that is the business decision to promote the stipe fight which I repeat is the best move: I don’t think it’s good to screw stipe over and not honor his final payday and disagree with any notion they should abandon that. It’s just bad luck with injuries. But the MOMENT that’s done, mark my words Jon will shift focus to Tom. Frankly I do not like Jon as a fighter I’ve said this before .but good lord man the guy has literally never ran from a fight . He’s fought everyone available. I know the optics suck of these delays with stipe and that fight ages worse and worse with time but at the time BEFORE Tom beat Sergei, it was SO bad. Bc it wasn’t Tom who was the “boogeyman” remember? It was indeed Sergei. So let’s stop this nonsense of “Jon could be the greatest ever don’t you want that” knowing damn well it’s critical Tom beat Curtis first to correct the what everyone just assumes was a mistake: to
Problem is Tom came along right after the HW and LHW was all fucked up lol. LHW worse, but it translated to HW where few fighters at the top five were long term, basically other than Ciryl? And then Stipe (i guess) and then Jon came in. Ngannu left, Stipe has been out, and anyone else retired or just got older and faded (Andre) so it was a mess. LHW had similar probs.
It’s crazy to see some many Aspinall fan boys here, recency bias ? Not once did I hear Gane mentioned? He was IC too. I honestly think he beats Aspinall. I don’t hate the guy by any means. I just don’t he’s accomplished enough to be saying he has a legacy yet. I know it’s annoying that Jones is holding up the division but he could do what DC did and just win.
In my and many others personal headcannon Tom is the rightful champ. Did all the work over his last couple of fights while Jones is staring at him from the sidelines. Jones is avoiding Tom like the plague because Tom is a massive risk to him. I don't think Jones is scared, but he is definetly apprehensive.
When you've cursed your own legacy, anything is possible. When the UFC puts entertainment over competition, fans are right to put personal actions over "legacy".
I think an important point to remember is that Jon is looking at this further into the future. Let's say 5, 10, 20 years from now people will look at the Stipe win as a name on that list based on those credentials. In that sense the Stipe name means a lot more than Tom's. He already did the "No, this is the guy" multiple times. Following that idea Alex would add more to his Legacy. For everyone who has a trouble putting biases aside. Imagine yourself having Jon's record and think about what fights really make sense at this point.
It still amazes me how often people are overlooked, yet still come out victorious. Everyone is overlooking Blaydes, same way stickland was overlooked among others. Talking about the aftermath of a fight like its a foregone conclusion...
I think it will eventually be fine, the reason that Jones had so many fights against former champions was because none of them could win a title defense. Rampage, Lyoto, Shogun, Rashad, and Vitor all couldnt defend their belt. Aspinall has the opportunity to break the defense record at Heavyweight eventually more contenders will come.
How moronic of Dana to not see the bigger picture. He wants 1 big payday (which I dont even think is gonna be that big coz ppl literally stopped caring) instead of building for the future
Correct. Dana and Hunter should actually be fired for ruining Tom Aspinall's prime. Dana and Hunter should be fired for promoting Jon Jones and Conor McGregor--both are not suitable as role models for new fans of the sport. If you try telling a casual fan about the criminal and PED history of Jon Jones, they will lose all respect for the sport. Conor has multiple allegations of horrific things that are so bad that they cannot be spoken about. At some point, Dana needs to be blamed for sabotaging the sport's reputation.
I think in the future a win for Tom over Jones would be viewed like Rocky Marciano's win over Joe Louis. That fight was a passing of the torch, but Joe Louis was obviously well beyond his prime. Ultimately, I don't think it matters for Tom if he fights Jones or not.
The big thing about HW compared to the other divisions is that the age of champions are older there than all the other divisions. So when a guy like Stipe loses his belt he’s way less likely to want to go on that grind of going against top contenders than a guy like Charles, Volk, etc. I guess that doesn’t explain why past champs have faced more past champs at HW but there also hasn’t been a lot of HW champs recently and they all have been inactive. I definitely don’t think you can hold it against Tom if the opportunities aren’t there. It’s a narrative against him for sure but hardly a fair one.
I wish I was as confident Tom was gonna beat Blades this weekend as the squad are. Whoever wins will be hampered by the lack of future planning by the UFC in relation to the HW division and their short sightedness in relation to pushing Jones v Stipe.
I think tom will be fine. Im more annoyed at jon for saying he's the best while waiting until Francis left to move up and then refusing to fight the interim champ, purely out of concern for his own safety and legacy. He wants to be the best while refusing to prove it.
I feel like they are being a little harsh saying there are no exciting prospects coming up in the HW division. Almedia is still up there, he just had one setback. Then you have Jhonata Diniz, Cortes-Acosta, and Mick Parkin coming up. Volkov is riding a surge right now in popularity, and I would be excited to see him get a title shot
@@briscoesjug1026 yes the interim champ should worry about defending his INTERIM title rather than worry about the champ. This entire reign has been a shit show
Asking why there aren’t more heavyweight prospects is not understanding how the human bell curve works. There just aren’t that many large athletic men. The ones that are go to football and basketball.
As someone that's been watching UFC for the last 5 years the only person doing negative shit to their legacy currently is Jon Jones. Chasing his "legacy" and then holding up the division for nearly a whole year
I can't wait to see Jones vs Aspinall. I'm a big fan of Jones but I think it will be his "passing the torch moment", I just don't see Aspinall losing the match. It should be a great fight no matter who wins.
That's The Entire Point you Just Said It & That's Exactly How Jones Thinks. Jones only Cares about leaving a Legacy & Being Remembered. Fighting Stipe in 5 , 10 , 15 Years when We talk about Fighters like Dan Severn , GSP , Royce Gracie , Etc. Why the Hell is Everyone so Hell Bent because Jones is Asking for 1 fight He Wants out of His Entire Career ?! Not to Mention the other 2 Factors. 1) Jones is Closer to Stipe in His Career then he is Aspinall. 2) It's Already Been Announced By Dana winner of Aspinall & Blaydes fights Winner of Jones vs Stipe !
I think that if Tom can rack up a few title defences his legacy will stand the stand of time. Especially since heavyweight is historically a shallow division. Like most modern fans don't know most of the guys Anderson Silva beat, like Travis Lutter, Nate Marquardt or Thales Leites, but they respect his winning streak and number of title defences. Since the heavyweight division is so shallow, Tom is genuinely very close to completely cleaning out the division with less than 10 wins in the promotion. If he beats Blaydes, Gane and Almeida, he would have defeated the entire top 7 of a post Jon and Stipe ranking, at which point there would be no good matchup left. I would also say that there is no mystic in any of the modern heavyweight, no because they are worst, but because the modern UFC as a promotion doesn't build them up that well, guys like Overeem and Mark Hunt had something that modern fighters just will never have. The division has always been very top heavy, but people still miss the pride heavyweight division, which just like the UFC's right now, only had a very solid top 5 and a lot of mediocre fighters after that.
Its also because Ngannou situation, its like a chain reaction. Ngannou leaving UFC with the belt and fighting somewhere else forced UFC to make Jon Jones happy so they can hype the new Heavyweight champ as Goat.
Jones is on another level though. Jones has an 84 1/2 " reach while Tom has a reach of 78". Also, Jones throws MANY leg kicks and side kicks to the knees. Add to that great wrestling skill. That's what makes Jones great. His opponents have to much to worry about. One very important thing to keep in mind as well is that Jones has fought for 25 minutes on many occasions. Training for a championship fight and actually being in one are two very different things and Jones has been in MANY. He has mastered his pace control. Tom, on the other hand has only made it to the second round ONCE which means that we've only seen him fight FRESH basically. No way a guy that big could maintain that pace. By the third round alone there would be a HUGE difference. And let's not forget that out of all of his wins, Tom has only defeated ONE former champion (Andrei Arlovski) who was 42 years old at the time AND whom took Aspinall to the second round. Bottom line...I don't know if Jones would whoop or even if he could finish Tom, but he would definitely beat Aspinall.

Ideal world Tom would love that W over Bones. The baton passed etc. but I think we also know he’s already diminished (bones that is) and I also think it’s never gonna happen so best thing for everybody is that both Jones and Stipe retire and Tom builds his own legacy.
Why the fuck at this point are you talking about Tom Aspinall how to be the best of all time. That is so far off from where we are it's crazy. He's had one title fight. Slow down.
while it might hurt his standing with casuals for awhile, anyone who's on a serious level of being a fan knows Aspinall is legit, and if anything we parade him as the guy Jones was too scared to fight. That puts him in a category above guys like Rampage Jackson just with that title alone
Without watching the video or reading the comments YES. The UFC and how it's treating Jones has wrecked light heavyweight and now heavyweight divisions.
He doesn’t need Jon at all to have an incredible legacy. I can’t think of a single person who legitimately gives a shit about Jon competing outside of Dana.. can’t wait until he disappears to twitter forever. He is a complete disgrace.
Obviously it wouldn’t be the sole cause, but could the problems with sourcing big guys be partly due to the international expansion of other sports? The NFL and NBA both pay much more handsomely and are filling themselves with big men from countries that normally wouldn’t be getting scouted via things like the NFL pathways program.
Jon dodged Francis for YEARS. He squandered prime years with criminal activities and negligence. Give him to one of the Paul brothers. Let his legacy fizzle out already.
I think this is all premature until Aspinal beats Blaydes. At this point, the champion is going through with a fight that was booked before he got hurt. If Aspinal and Jones win, then strip Jones if he ducks Aspinal
Guys, there will be somebody, someone will move up or come in new or ngannou will come back Tom will have big fights to solidify his jegacy if he’s good enough with or without jones.
We havent had an actice heavyweight champ since like 2020, i think that has played a part in how we view most heavyweights as they havent even had a chance to fight for gold let alone win it and be regarded as a big deal
Dana don’t want that Jon v Tom fight because Jones would like win and retire undisputed which ruins their Tom investment. Unless Jon looks terrible against Stipe it won’t happen.
If jones just stepped in the cage with Aspinall he’d be the goat Passing the torch to the younger generation is part of the sport Win or lose he’d either walk away defining a whole other generation or he’d cap off a crazy career fighting the 3rd or 4tg new generation of fighters
Francis leaving screwed everything up. There's no telling who the best HW in the world is anymore. Jon Jones will not fight Tom Aspinall guaranteed. I'm surprised he's even fighting Stipe. He just wants that goat status, even if he hasn't fought the best, and ride off into the sunset drunk and high. The 12-6 ban lifting is only gonna make his decision easier. He won't want to risk it fighting Tom.
The problem with Heavyweight is that if a man has the genetic gift of that size and athletic ability - they will go to another sport that pays them far more with a far less demanding schedule and chance of harm. There aren’t many sports for smaller dudes so they ALLL funnel to boxing or MMA

I cant believe what Im going to say but Rampage Jackson was right: "Jon Jones is bad for the sport."
Stalling the entire division while he's on top is the only thing in his life that he has control of and he's going to hold on to it as long as he can, because once that's over, it's literally all downhill for him
Perfectly said!! 👌
I would love to see Tom become the first fighter to ever finish Jon Jones.
john jones will never ever get in that cage with Tom, he knows what is going to happen...😂
Man. I love Tom but everyone talking like he's already world champion and cleared out the division is wild.
This right here.... I agree so much bro
Casuals aren't allowed to post comments.
because he IS in fact running from this fight😂
@charliecharlie846 , those people who look for legacy know who Stipe is so you think Jones will be better Goat if he fights him? But those same people won't know Stipe was coming from a KO loss and also 3 years inactivity? That makes no sense. Stipe right now shouldn't make Jones's legacy better, thats saying like Paddy beating Tony makes Paddy's legacy better.
@@charliecharlie846 most of jj's wins are legends that were past their prime, but the names look good on paper, for example lyoto machida and vitor belfort. Even daniel cormier was at the tail end of his prime when he fought jones. on a resume, stipe looks better than aspinall, even if right now aspinall is a way scarier opponent, and a possible future goat
He would have to fight more often to make that happen, you can't fight twice in five years and screw up anyone's legacy but your own
Why does everyone shit on Stipe? He was a great champion, firefighter and a nice guy. So, why the hate?
i feel like this is ruining jons legacy before toms, i have never seen so much jon hate as of lately.. now people are even breaking down jons prime days showing that he was the younger or bigger fighter, or even should have lost... all because jon is blatantly avoiding tom
Jones is the worst part of the UFC rn. He’s obviously terrified
He's not worst bro come one stop with the exaggeration. His ppv sells alot
Yes there might be an asterisk over the belt but it will be nothing like Algernon
Toms been calling him out, he ducked him out...
Aspinall IS the champ
And I don't think he is happy with the way it's happened, it's just added to the joke of Jon ducking out of the true challenger. What you gonna do?
Tom will create his legacy Saturday night! Let’s Go!!!
So let’s stop this nonsense of “Jon could be the greatest ever don’t you want that” knowing damn well it’s critical Tom beat Curtis first to correct the what everyone just assumes was a mistake: to
How can you favor Tom over Jon Jones? I understand that he's good, but Jon Jones has been levels above everyone for the past decade. 🤷🏽🤯
Anderson Silva had to also take the belt from Rich Franklin. Who was at the time one of the most Dominant champions at middleweight.
I feel sorry for Balian having to speak to this guys honestly.
Bayluin using Carlos Condit as an example of a bad challenger for a title defense. Absolute clown.
One of the few Tom takes I think is completely wrong
Jones is a curse on the sport
What does it look like with Tom on his back (or in "deep water")? The world may never know.
Tom Aspinall will curse Jones legacy
Jon Jones has cursed many legacies in his time
Same with Lesnar. It's those prize fighters that get special protection from the UFC that are guilty.
Jon is ruining his own legacy by being scared to fight the heavyweight champ.
I think you got that backwards 😂
In my and many others personal headcannon Tom is the rightful champ. Did all the work over his last couple of fights while Jones is staring at him from the sidelines. Jones is avoiding Tom like the plague because Tom is a massive risk to him. I don't think Jones is scared, but he is definetly apprehensive.
Everyone already talking about Tom next 10 years as champion. I hope Curtis brutally KOs Aspinall
I hate to be the one to tell you man, but aspinal is him. Blades got lucky he lasted that long
When you've cursed your own legacy, anything is possible.
When the UFC puts entertainment over competition, fans are right to put personal actions over "legacy".
Exactly backwards: Tom Aspinall has ruined Jones' legacy.
Jones ruined his own legacy
@@BazookaTooth707 better answer!
Because Paplovich isn't Jones
Jones v Stipe and Jones v Aspinall is starting to feel like a Tony Khabib situation
2:15 anyone who actually thinks theres a chance jon is going to jail over the testing agent thing isnt living in the real world 😂😂
I wish I was as confident Tom was gonna beat Blades this weekend as the squad are.
Whoever wins will be hampered by the lack of future planning by the UFC in relation to the HW division and their short sightedness in relation to pushing Jones v Stipe.
Since this is heavyweight I don’t think not fighting Jones effects Toms legacy as much as if this was at light heavyweight
Volkov is riding a surge right now in popularity, and I would be excited to see him get a title shot
probably need to worry about Curtis first instead of Jones though
@@briscoesjug1026 yes the interim champ should worry about defending his INTERIM title rather than worry about the champ. This entire reign has been a shit show
He’ll easily beat Curtis.
Now that Curtis have been taken care of, jones should be worried 😂
Not anymore.
Why is everyone acting like this is the first time a champ didn’t fight the interm champ. And the ufc is the one calling the actual shots not jones
I’m of the mindset that if Tom and Jon don’t fight I’ll never pay for another fight. It’s the obvious choice and the UFC is avoiding it.
Yall actually insanely biased towards tom. Have made so many videos about this situation and always talk him up to the moon. I get it he is British like u guys but please calm down
Speaking facts is being insanely biased according to you Jones fangirls...

So happy to finally see the turn on Jones, it's been a long time coming the guy is the Chris Benoit of the ufc
exact opposite. Jon has already massively tainted his career, Aspinall is going to be remembered as the final nail in his coffin.
Why didn’t they just do Tom vs Stipe while Jon was out, then unify the belt when Jon is back?
The super skinny guy is the biggest STAN of any athlete ever lol. Bro is in love with Aspinal
I mean Aspinall is quite the guy to look up to and respect. But yeah he looks like his malnourished twin 😂
@@alexgonzalez8954 homeless thrift store Tom Aspinal on crack? I can see it
Ideal world Tom would love that W over Bones. The baton passed etc. but I think we also know he’s already diminished (bones that is) and I also think it’s never gonna happen so best thing for everybody is that both Jones and Stipe retire and Tom builds his own legacy.
No. Tom Aspinall will curse Jon Jones legacy
It’s the other way around, this whole situation has devalued Jon jones to an extreme level.
Gotta keep Jones at the top of the conversation no matter how many times he shows he's not able to handle the pressure.
Why the fuck at this point are you talking about Tom Aspinall how to be the best of all time. That is so far off from where we are it's crazy. He's had one title fight. Slow down.
So has jones, in 4 years
@ericwalsh2954 'all time' is the discussion. Not the last 4 years.
while it might hurt his standing with casuals for awhile, anyone who's on a serious level of being a fan knows Aspinall is legit, and if anything we parade him as the guy Jones was too scared to fight. That puts him in a category above guys like Rampage Jackson just with that title alone
Without watching the video or reading the comments YES. The UFC and how it's treating Jones has wrecked light heavyweight and now heavyweight divisions.
I think it’s the complete opposite. Unless they fight everyone will remember how jones held up the division and ducked Tom at all costs
He doesn’t need Jon at all to have an incredible legacy. I can’t think of a single person who legitimately gives a shit about Jon competing outside of Dana.. can’t wait until he disappears to twitter forever. He is a complete disgrace.
I don't think so. Real fight fans already see Aspinall as the true champion and have for almost a year...
Isn´t going to happen, Jon will pick his opponents and retire. He ain´t going into the cage against Tom.....
Jon jones will TAKE THE BELT WITH HIM WHEN HE RETIRES. THE HEAVYWEIGHTS will have to fight for fun. Not for belt.
Jons ego is too fragile not to
Obviously it wouldn’t be the sole cause, but could the problems with sourcing big guys be partly due to the international expansion of other sports?
The NFL and NBA both pay much more handsomely and are filling themselves with big men from countries that normally wouldn’t be getting scouted via things like the NFL pathways program.
Jon dodged Francis for YEARS. He squandered prime years with criminal activities and negligence. Give him to one of the Paul brothers. Let his legacy fizzle out already.
I think this is all premature until Aspinal beats Blaydes. At this point, the champion is going through with a fight that was booked before he got hurt. If Aspinal and Jones win, then strip Jones if he ducks Aspinal
We all know Aspinal would destroy Jones and Jones is letting us know he knows it too.
Guys, there will be somebody, someone will move up or come in new or ngannou will come back Tom will have big fights to solidify his jegacy if he’s good enough with or without jones.
Dude because Jones is scared it's really derailing Aspinall's run. Jones needs to put on his big boy pants and fight instead of hiding
Hes ducking aspinall so hard. Overrated and no true champion atm
Tom Aspinall will go down as the greatest of all time by the time he finishes his career. No doubt about that.....
Kinda just bums me out at this point.
Tom doesn't wait on Jon for anything. Jon's legacy is as a messed up person with too many problems to count
He'll have the night mouse problem where he beats everybody so definitively so you can't really measure his greatness
If jones just stepped in the cage with Aspinall he’d be the goat
Passing the torch to the younger generation is part of the sport
Win or lose he’d either walk away defining a whole other generation or he’d cap off a crazy career fighting the 3rd or 4tg new generation of fighters
