I always tell myself in a tourney when I’m in trouble, “ tigers best shots are chip ins and recovery shots”

Most golfers that start early are playing local golf tournaments as early a 5 years old. By the time the get to the teenage competition they understand and have found a way to deal with the pressure tournaments or they would have already quit. This is true for most sports in the US these days!

Those casual rounds with friends can definitely put you off your tournament game. Might be better to play more alternate shot and 2 man team best balls with friends.

I've personally found that I perform better under pressure.
I could be wrong but I think its to do with the fact that A: I love competition and B: I can't bring that intensity and focus to every round of golf . . . I just cant do it.
So I target events etc on the horizon build up to them play them and then pick the next and I love it.
And I've learned that I can definitely perform under pressure and the confidence grows from there.
I just had the first round of qualifying in our club champs yesterday and the two days before played terrible. Yet when it counted yesterday I had one of my best ever rounds.
Everyone is different but for me personally first and foremost I love the pressure I absolutely love it.
I let myself get angry or excited after a shot but those emotions must be gone by the next shot and be calm.
Always back yourself over every shot.
And especially in match play if its not going well to start off with I'll always tell myself 'I am going to fight this prick all the way until the finish line no matter what' and if you lose but fight the whole way you will take alot of confidence and pride out of that and sometimes you even turn the script and win!
Most importantly above all else always tell yourself on first tee 'no excuses do your best' and above all else NEVER FEAR FAILURE EVER you will fail in golf over and over and over again we all do. Life will go on be fearless (in a non stupid way where you just hit stupid shots) and if you can do that you put yourself in a position to hit good shots mentally.
This works for me but we are all different find what works for you.

When I was young back in the 60’s I always tried to play with people better than me that wasn’t hard since I was just beginning to play, but I continued to do this as much as I could, took a lot of ribbing but there was one guy that took an interest in me and really really helped, got to learn to play one shot at a time and let it go , good ,bad whatever just let it go then go on to next shot, time to reflect is after the match is over

I played in a tournament this weekend in what had been a very long time. I hit a lot of great shots. But slow play is a big problem that needs to be reckoned with. The mind wanders and suddenly you find yourself not even wanting to be out there. Very hard to play golf when your head and heart is not in it. The strictness of the rules can also be a bit of a distraction, and sometimes you get some situation that would be mundane in a friendly round of golf that turns into a big dilemma in a tournament. Getting yourself into some situations that you aren’t familiar with is a pain, like if you haven’t practiced sand traps much lately and then during the tournament you find yourself in a few and have a hard time getting out of them. That can be a big scorecard killer. Lastly, always always expect difficult hole positions in a tournament. You need to be practicing crazy steep downhill and uphill putts, because if a green has any of those types of slopes, you can bet the grounds crew will put the holes there for the tournament!!

Hi Randy, we don't have any golf schools but we do distance clinics when the weather is nice. We only offer the opportunity to enroll to our All Access Members so if you're interested then you'll want to become a member. Here is the link: topspeedgolf.com/pick-all-access-plan/

Watching this video because I have a tournament coming up next week. I know I won’t win. I’m a 15 handicap and there’s scratch golfers in the field, but this is my first tournament ever. I normally either play by myself or with friends. Playing with new people in a pressure situation will be a test

@@TopSpeedGolfHey Clay in the last year I’ve competed in a lot of club competitions and I’m thrilled to say I’ve won about 3 or 4. No club championships or anything like that, but still seeing 1st next to my name is something else. The thing I learned in the last year is if you want to see the results you have to put in hours of work. I’m fortunate enough to work for a course so I show up 2 hours early and work on my game. I put in two hours of practice everyday for a month straight and began to see the results

Thank you very much for the post. It was very eye opening. I`m a 63 year old life long golfer who has not competed in 15 years. My golf consists of a once a week round with three strangers. These people are usually not tournament golfers. My question is how do you play tournament mode preparation golf with people you don`t know who are out for fun time golf? Any ideas?. Thanks again your videos for seniors. I have found them very helpful. Good luck and all the best, Darryl

Good, solid advice and thank you. Winning is hard and the rewards are far greater than transient moments of 'fun'. Tomorrow my 11yo son is competing in the state junior championship over 2 days and we both got a lot out of your insights. These days I think we are bringing up kids who are not able to cope under pressure, who have been told they're much better than they are and not preparing them for the challenges of life. Golf is a great way to do this and your words are very helpful. Cheers and thanks from Sydney, Aust - Dave

Why am I so good good at putting at the practice and suck at real greens? I am consistently making 33 to 35 putts every match. This is what making my game go bad😢

    • @jungie6969
      @jungie6969 Рік тому

33-35 is pretty darn good in my book. I assume you mean per 18 hole round. TOUR average in 32.... They say you should practice putting/short game 4x longer than your range time spent hitting balls. (30min spent hitting at the range = 2 hours of short game/putt practice.) Also if there is no one behind you and you're quick, give yourself a completely different putt from another spot on the green.

To go against your "you can't be either or", my dad and I do some john Daly shit, then go win local tourneys. We are playing in a 27 hole 2 man 9 scramble, 9 best ball, 9 alternate shot, we are 1 for 5 for first place with 2 second place finishes d:
Great video!!! I will sleep on this tonight!
P.s. do you sleep well before tournaments?
