Such a humble guy.. I flew to dallas from Los Angeles and I told my family to go to his shop. We where at his clothing shop and ask the clerk if richard was around and she said he was in his office on a phone call so I decided to leave,as soon as I'm leaving he comes out and say I'm not about to let you leave without a photo. He even signed my shirt!

I think Aaron was showed the respect he deserved and when he felt like he wasn’t getting what he wanted he was allowed to go with no hard feelings and continued respect. He was not entitled to a part of that business. At the end of the day he was what he was and that was a employee.

JoeGo101 Yeah it is.....and it's great....just imagine though how many thousands of guys tried and didn't make it?
The "theme" in america is if you work hard, you'll make it...umm no....it isn't only hard work....it is hard work, knowing the right people, having the right experience and, as Warren Buffet says, a whole boat load of luck...
Yeah, him winning those races put his name out there......skill? yeah...but a WHOLE lotta luck.....speeding down the highway at double the speed limit and NOT getting caught by the cops played just as much part in his win as his skill....
A good example of this is: I forget which car it was...but if he didn't have it done on x day, he'd lose the bet and $50,000.00...imagine if on the way back from the paint shop or wherever, the truck got hit and the car ruined? (like that beautiful mustang in that one episode).....there goes $50K......
Not a lot of people admit it, but there's a boat load of luck involved in "making" it.......

Kudos to the Dallas Morning News. I have never seen such as well produced interview come out of a TV news station, and DMN is a newspaper. We have infinite bandwidth, we don't need thirty second interviews with no content! I really appreciate the interviewer, crew and post team on this piece.
Also I love Richard and Aaron. Such a great show, and I'm not even a car fan.

I got to meet him at his restaurant in 2015 when he was unveiling the Pontiac he built for his buddies down under, the man will shake everyone’s hand he can, stop and take a shot with you, etc. this interview really shows the man I got to meet.. genuine to the core! He was just able to push his brand to the stand out/show stopper that it is. He had the drive and tools to do it. Great guy all around!

This little interview goes back to how I started out. I am a hands on guy but little business sense (lack the patience for paper work and phone calls). I started out 30 odd yrs ago building houses and taking home about $500 a week. give r take depending on hours worked. I wasn't happy nor going to get "rich" bringing home $500 a week. I started bringing home scrap wood and made bird houses, mail boxes, trinket boxes, blanet boxes and hope chest. As i made fuck ups and fuck ups and more fuck ups I learned to understand wood and the grain an how it would behave. My $15 bird houses went to $20-30 etc. My blanket boxes/hope chest went from $50-$150 to $500 all because I was learning how wood worked (and the finishes).
I am sure if i had stayed at wood working I would be where i am now financially but my passion was in cars and I bought a 84 monte carlo which had a 350 4 bolt already. I took that car to the bones. I sold off the rims to offset the cost. I worked that car for 8 mths near every night and weekends. sold it and tripled my coin. i was ughh at the time spent to only get 3x my money back but at the same time i loved every min of what I was doing. I bought a rx7 after that and put a 3.8 buick turbo into it. painted it and sold that for 5x more than I paid for it and the engine/trans. Divorced my 1st wife because she hated how much I was ignoring her lol . (the sex was boring as fuck anyway so did't matter anyway lol)
Point is as I have already got long winded. Is there is always a way to escape working for someone else and making them money. Everyone has a talent or passion but don't expect to open shop and everyone within 1000 miles know who you are just because you opened up shop. Took me near 30+ yrs to build a name in custom work. But I will say I do not advertise at all and I am usually that busy I have to force myself to not work a 12-14 hour day or take a saturday off.
If you want it bad enough you will punch in the time and effort.

Richard Rawlings is the most HONEST and ORIGINAL dude on the planet! He keeps it real because he's had nothing. He's also got everything right now. He knows not to shit where he eats and to take care of those who made it possible for him to be as successful as he is today. No ONE person is EVER successful by themself. It will always require a collaboration or help in some way from some other place. He recognizes that and that's why I'd like to have a beer and share a doobe with him!! AND AARON!!

He's douchey on the show. Seems genuine here. Everything he said here is pretty much spot on. Show is overproduced. Maybe his fault, maybe the network, maybe both. It's a "reality" show. That's what they do. Over produce. Like he said, you guys that are hard core gear heads would watch a str8 up frame off car build show without the personality thrown in. They want the wives and kids to watch. That's why the show is so popular. That's why he acts like an ass on TV. That's why Roadkill fans and other car show fans don't like him. Btw, Roadkill is great, but they choose to appeal to a specific audience. If Velocity or Discovery or History channel told the Roadkill guys, hey, just act like Rawlings a little bit more and we'll throw you a cable show and a few mill every episode, I think they would go for it. I'm not knocking them, but who the hell wouldn't?

Richard was supposed to be the driver. And Aaron drove. I'm full of shit? Why don't you actually do some research before you say something. You have no clue what you're talking about.

Since Aaron doesn't have to worry about all that he is much more approachable and a very great guy to talk to. My brother and I had the pleasure of meeting them both a few years ago during one of their first season builds. It was a great experience to meet them both. As long as they can keep the Drama low (and hopefully no fake drama) they'll do well.

+white shadow You think running the business is easy? Do you think Aaron could build all those cars without Richard's money? Aaron had the skill but that means nothing without money and someone to back you.

Richard has come a long way from the start of his show. And I hope some of you haters realize that a lot of what he does is just to project a certain image for the show, he seems like a personable and intelligent guy off camera.

The most honest interview ever!!!÷ If only our President, senators, corporate America and every other money grubber would speak the truth I might sleep at night thinking "hey at least he/she is honest"! Nope, everyone who makes more money than this guy doesn't want you to know. Plus, he's into cars and everyone else that he surrounded himself with!!!!!

I met him at a hotel in Pennsylvania. I think he was checking out and we were too so we were both in line. When he was done, we asked him for a photo and ya. But then, when we all got in the elevator, i see him walking down the hallway. He is obviously going to get into an elevator. Then my mom closed the elevator door without knowing that we could have been in an elevator with Richard Rawlings.

Richard is much more of a regular Joe here. I am sure much of that stems from not having any pressure to stay within the confines of time & budget. I have tried to do work for others over the years, and although I am very good with the car end, not so much with the estimating of the final cost in order to make a few bucks. Because of this, it will be interesting to see how well Aaron does on his own. Also, wish I knew most of what Richard does with the $$$. Love his new show helping other garages turn fairly good profits.
