  • It has marked 1-Year Anniversary with my 2020 BMW G20 M340i - Let's go for a drive with me! I've discussed about my so-far impression daily driving it and my ownership cost-breakdown for the past year.
I have broken down the video into sections, about my impression of daily driving the car, a transparent cost-breakdown for the year, and my overall concluded perspective of the BMW G20 M340i.
    --------------------
See below for a VERY DETAILED cost breakdown.
TL;DR: Grand Total of a 1-Year Ownership Cost that touchdown on 60k & 80k km milestones: $2967.08 CAD (~$2114.43 USD), or $6856.23 CAD (~$4885.96 USD) with optional maintenances - Excluding Taxes on parts, and Cost of Fuel and Insurance.
1-Year Ownership Cost Breakdown (Including 60k km & 80k km Maintenances) (Currency in Canadian Dollars CAD$):
Mechanical Water Pump Replacement: Parts & Labour - $1000
    Oil Changes *5: (Amsoil 0W30 *8 Bottles + BMW Oil Filter $27.38) Each Oil Change, *5 - ($18.19*8 + $27.38)*5 = $172.9 *5 = $864.5
    Spark Plugs Replacement: BMW 12122455258 *6 = $43.63 *6 = $261.78
Front Differential Fluid Change: BMW Hypoid Axle Oil G5 (Replaced the G2 I used in my previous vid) *2 = $83.88 *2 = $167.76
    Rear Differential Fluid Change: BMW Hypoid Axle Oil G4 *3 = $87.08 *3 = $261.24
Transfer Case Fluid Change: BMW DTF 1 *1 = $57.00
    Drain & Fill Plugs for the 3 above Drivetrain fluid change: BMW 33117525064 *4 = $13.87 *4 = $55.48
    ZF8 Transmission Pan Filter & Fluid Change: Hengst 24118612901 + Amsoil SS-FE ATL *7 = $164.99 + $19.19 *7 = $299.32
    --------------------
    Optional Maintenances:
Front Brake Rotors & Pads (Excluding Insignificant Cost of Hardware):
    Zimmermann Left & Right Rotors: 34116860911 & 34116860912 - $189.99 + $189.99 = $379.98
    Hawk Performance HPS 5.0 Pads: HB916B.740 - $279.99
Rear Brake Rotors & Pads (Excluding Insignificant Cost of Hardware):
    Zimmermann Left & Right Rotors: 34216860925 *2 (Non-Directional) - $274.15 + $274.15 = $548.30
    Hawk Performance HPS 5.0 Pads: HB917B.626 - $180.88
2020 Oil Pump Replacement: Parts and Labour - $2500
    --------------------
I know some of what I'm saying in the video may not make much sense (i.e. at the end of the video, I said I will be addressing to fix this G20 rattlebox, which was not mentioned earlier in the video about any rattling issue) - It's because I decided to part some footages about things I like and I don't about the M340i into another video; Instead of making this video longer than it needs to be. So stay tuned!

If you’re serious about getting a BMW G20 M340i, remember to check out my description for a VERY DETAILED cost-breakdown about how much I spent on the car for the past year!
Although my wallet was crying when I went over every single transaction for my M340, I had fun making this video.
Stay tuned for its part 2, for things that I like and I don’t about my M340i - likely will be live in the next few days!

I don't know if you remember me haha but a few months back I commented saying that I'm trying to get a 2020 m340 same spec as yours. I'm thankfully getting closer to that goal, just praying that I'm able to find the exact spec lol. Great video!

Did your oil pump begin failing / unable to measure oil level, or were you being *really* proactive?
The failures are popping up on the A90 forum for both the 2020s and 2021s. The MY2021 Supra began production early in March 2020, so it’s still unclear how far the defect extends (or if it’s truly been resolved/redesigned).

Adding on (just got to the end of your video😂). One additional ‘pro’ of the MY2020 M340i is there’s no Mild Hybrid complexity/future cost of 48V battery replacement, at least in North America (MH application varies by region).

My old oil pump was showing signs of defect (unable to measure oil, stopped at around 20% and kicked me back to menu page), that’s why I decided to change it out.
Since I have the, supposedly, new design of oil pump, I have been able to measure oil every single time.
The indy shop mechanic even showed me the new and old oil pump design comparison (plastic components vs metal).
And I agree with your point of view about the MH design on the 2021+ MY. From one of the commenters on my previous vid about changing the fluid and filter on its ZF8, there’s a different design and part# for the transmission pan filter, to accommodate the MH start stop system. And the MH transmission pan filter is significantly more expensive than the non-MH 2020 MY 😮‍💨

Ah yep it was definitely failing. I have a 2021 Supra with an early production date so it is likely affected; it only sees ~1k miles per year so hopefully I’ll never find out. It’s a rather involved job on the Supra requiring the subframe to be dropped. I imagine it’s the same on the G20 but could be wrong.
Very interesting on the oil pump comparison. If you have any pictures the Supra forum would definitely be interested.
For the revised 8HP I wonder if the commenter was referring to the G20 LCI2 (2025+). Prior to the LCI2 the MH setup uses a generator with a pulley on the crank, whereas the new iteration leverages the transmission.
