John Scott's story is precisely why the NHL's marketing team is and has always been total dogshit. He was an every-man, a big heart off the ice, he took it all in stride and still promoted the game in spite of the NHL's opposition to his inclusion. It would've been the perfect opportunity to promote the game and show that anyone can make the All-Star Game (and score three points doing it).
It all worked out in the end, but let’s not ignore that it was largely people trying to screw with fan voting by voting in a random depth guy like had happened before.
I look at everyone hating on the all star game and I think "Well this makes sense". Then I start watching and I think "Screw it! I love the all star game!"
Anyone remember "Vote for Rory" campaign? Fans tried to get Rory Fitzpatrick to the All Star game. He had most votes among those who didn't make it to the roster. It was rumoured NHL deleted lots of his votes to make sure he doesn't get enough.
Only problem I have with this list is alot of these guys are defenceman with low points and I feel as D man you shouldn't be judged solely on points, these players could have had an impact on other aspects of the game
Jaroslav Modry, '02 ASG in L.A. Had a decent stat line for 01/02 (4-38-42) but was a minus-4, a borderline 2nd pairing D-man, and weak on the PP. Only reason he got voted in was A: hometown player, and B: 2002 was the last year of the NA/World format and like several others in this video, he pretty much made the World team by default.
I used to love the all star game growing up. As an adult meh don’t really care that much except for the John Scott game. But North America vs the world was an interesting format I guess. Also Mike Komisarek was one of my coaches in hockey camp good to see that he made an all star team instead of being clapped by lucic multiple times.
I understand that it sucks when a player who's not as good goes instead of a top-tier player because of the "every team must have a representative" rule, but I think without it, good players on smaller market teams would be more likely to be passed over for All-Star appearances. The real solution is probably to have slightly larger all-star game rosters in the first place.
The most random All Stars would be Riley Nash or Alex Wennberg for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sorry guys, you need to step it up to actually have a chance
5:08 I hate to be that guy, but The California Seals* lasted only one year under that name, and that year was 1967. The California Golden Seals lasted from 1970 when Charles O'Finnley bought the team and ran it like a country club, to 1976 when they moved to Cleveland.
I watched Scott with the sabres.hes no Crosby but he's played offense and defense.hes smart, understands the game.people are afraid of losing their jobs and want a newer model so move him around and never let him settle in
Tkachuk went instead of Matthews (injury) and Marchand was on the list initially but didn't go (injury or didn't want to go, don't remember). So first check before bitching
So... I know that All Star games tend to be shooting competitions, but I feel like some of these players - particularly Defensive Defensemen who were getting top-pairing minutes - being invited to the All Star games aren't completely irrational when you start digging into their secondary stats like blocked shots, hits, TOI, +/-. Focusing too much on production might lead you to miss why people thought it was a good idea.
Hey OhNyquist this year they have players shooting from the stands almost and a women's 3v3 thing as well with new stuff also bertuzzi only being in accuracy is a little rude I guess I say at least have him in 2
That was a marketing move to have the bothers and father all together at the game. I would have sent Lindholm instead of Tkachuk. So many missed players its sad. The weekend is a joke players dont want to go and many dropped out thats telling the league something. Mathiews im sure was a drop out too but they found a way to not have the suspension. Next year might get worse.
As a sabres fan, girgensons certainly shouldnt have been an allstar, however our team was soooo bad that year, and with the nhl having a rep from each team, it really wasnt that awful. We didnt have anyone much more deserving of his spot in buffalo except probably tyler ennis. While he definitely shouldnt have been captain, at least he had a pretty solid overall season
Zemgus girgensons and Tyler bertuzzi.bertuzzi is a good young player and is still improving but if your team doesn't have an all star it doesn't have an all star
They need to bring back the john scott era voting. If the all star game is a showcase of the top nhl talen for the FANS ,then why not let them vote. Every player in the nhl is more skilled than any fan so bringing in "grinders" isnt that big of a deal.
The all star weekend is a joke players dont seam to want to go and not to mention they put up zero efforts during the games. The 3V3 womens games was more exiting them then men's games. They need to do something to motivate the players to at least skate faster than my 12 year old. Even the goalies barely moved to make saves its just ridiculous when you see fans paying top dollar to see superstars make plays and end up seeing them putting the same effort that they do during warm ups.
If fan vote didn't exist, All 4 Sports would have better All-Star Game. But no, most of the underrated players will not be in the All-Star Game, If you don't know what I mean, well try to gather a group and vote some guy like Milan Lucic to the 2021 all star game to let NHL know how stupid fan voting is so that the all star game can be fixed
Maybe I am weird but I much preferred almost any other format for the all star game, East v West, NA v Europe and Captains Picking teams. This division v division 3v3 nonsense sucks, I have zero interest in watching it.
I don't get it, why is the NHL trying to kill the fun out of the all-star game? Just let the fans have some fun! No wonder why the NHL is smaller next to the other major sports smh
They need to bring back the draft was so fun, I have great memories of Team Folingo and Toews.
For sure! Me as well but with Lidstrom and Staal
I agree they need to bring it back to the draft and one game instead of a 3v3 tournament
Ovi drunk asf wanting to get picked last lol
NuftySzn I WAS THERE
I remember Howe in the all star game lol

"anyone can make the All-Star Game"
That contradicts the very idea of an All-Star Game, it's supposed to just be the stats, not just anyone.
It all worked out in the end, but let’s not ignore that it was largely people trying to screw with fan voting by voting in a random depth guy like had happened before.
UncleAnaesthesia what’s the point of an all star game if anyone can make it? Lmao 😂 I think ur just trying to find something to bitch about
John Scott=🐐
id love to see another john scott type all star game in the next couple of years, would just be so much fun
Ryan Reaves?
Thomas Leroux-Lévis fists of fury
Justin ablokader ?
I look at everyone hating on the all star game and I think "Well this makes sense". Then I start watching and I think "Screw it! I love the all star game!"
John Scott the best All Stars of all Time For Sure!!!
LOVING ya stuff recently man. A sudden history aspect and its amazing. didnt even know this!!
Anyone remember "Vote for Rory" campaign? Fans tried to get Rory Fitzpatrick to the All Star game. He had most votes among those who didn't make it to the roster. It was rumoured NHL deleted lots of his votes to make sure he doesn't get enough.
Ngl, even as a swede I have forgotten about Ragnarsson. He was a solid dman in his prime.
Leo Komarov is the one I remember
The girgensons one saved the video
I was thinking, this kids really about to give me a whole history lesson
Only problem I have with this list is alot of these guys are defenceman with low points and I feel as D man you shouldn't be judged solely on points, these players could have had an impact on other aspects of the game
I will vote John Scott every year I can until he dies. And then probably a few years after that. He’s a legend
Jaroslav Modry, '02 ASG in L.A.

Oh yeah Hall of Famer John Scott i remember the next year some people wanted to get Jordan Tootoo in next
This is such An underrated UA-cam’s keep going and you’ll have a mill
Hertl got completely robbed of MVP. he had 5 goals and one was the winner of the second game
5:08 I hate to be that guy, but The California Seals* lasted only one year under that name, and that year was 1967. The California Golden Seals lasted from 1970 when Charles O'Finnley bought the team and ran it like a country club, to 1976 when they moved to Cleveland.
Same as eliminated shootout
Should do random AHL ones Miltec got in and idk what he eve. Did
What about John Garrett in 1983
Adam Don’t disrespect the 🐐 😤
I watched Scott with the sabres.hes no Crosby but he's played offense and defense.hes smart, understands the game.people are afraid of losing their jobs and want a newer model so move him around and never let him settle in
Brady Tkachuk 27 points, over Brad Marchand 65 points.
Tkachuk went instead of Matthews (injury) and Marchand was on the list initially but didn't go (injury or didn't want to go, don't remember). So first check before bitching
@@eazyg885 Marchand wasn't on the list, or the fan vote.
It’s the All Star game, not biggest scumbag in the league game
So... Remember Rory Fitzpatrick? Man that was a classic.
I'm hyped for tonight and Tommorrow boys
No ducks or yotes this year for all stars
John Scott was with the habs during the all star week end
Bro, I love all of the videos you do. You deserve more subs!
Komarov was also random
Who wouldn't be proud if there dad got in the all star game?
They say that one person needs to represent each team but all the yotes have is a coach because Kuemper is injured :(
And the Ducks had no one either. But they found a way to send 4 Blues players while other great players didnt go. The system's a joke
@@taxi615 ikr
I wish they played and traditional all-star game with North America against rest of the world and kept the skill competition to a minimum.
Great vid man. I love your vids. Always love them. I even watch u in class
Proud voter for Girgensons! Sarauj, Sarauj! Sarauj, Sarauj! Heeeej LATVIJA!!! 🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻
How is elite sniper John scott a suprise to you?
you can't hold defensemen to the same scoring standards that you hold all the other players to
Yet they made such a big death deal over John Scott, hilarious
Hey OhNyquist this year they have players shooting from the stands almost and a women's 3v3 thing as well with new stuff also bertuzzi only being in accuracy is a little rude I guess I say at least have him in 2
Matthew Gould well I’m sorry but no, he’s not good enough plus they can’t participate in 2 events
Brady Tkachuk and his 27 points are pretty random
That was a marketing move to have the bothers and father all together at the game. I would have sent Lindholm instead of Tkachuk. So many missed players its sad. The weekend is a joke players dont want to go and many dropped out thats telling the league something. Mathiews im sure was a drop out too but they found a way to not have the suspension. honorable mention to Shawn Horcoff
What you mean, the nhl has one of the best all star weekends
Love ur vids so much keep it up!❤️
I probably voted for Komi back in the day...
As a Canadian, I'm sorry.
i have the peter sidorkowitz card u shown
Im just happy that Pasta won the MVP :)
Maybe they need it to be fan stars verse all star
john scott 286gp and only 5 GOALS? how
No more every team must have a representative
What about jiri sekac of the canadiens one year
The accuracy skills competition is the only good part
If only Rory Fitzpatrick played in the all star game back in 2003 (edit: it was 2007)
As a sabres fan, girgensons certainly shouldnt have been an allstar, however our team was soooo bad that year, and with the nhl having a rep from each team, it really wasnt that awful. My dad's name is Doug Roberts.
Honorable mention to Rory Fitzpatrick for almost make it.
Walt Poddubny in 1985 was the bigger one imo but you weren't alive then
John Scott ASG was the best in the history on the NHL
What’s the song
I thought that there was the rule that every team must have a representative, but why didn’t the ducks?
It is only applied to the original selections. Silfverberg was selected but didn't play.
He does charity work and is a good teammate.he found a way to stick around.dont hate him.hate the voting rules
Tom barasso was epic
Couldn't agree with you more. All Star weekend needs to go away. I haven't watched the game since the early 90's. Total waist of time!!!
*waste
Rookies vs. sophomores
Norm Barnes in 1980 is way more of a rando than a couple of these guys
They need to bring back the john scott era voting. If the all star game is a showcase of the top nhl talen for the FANS ,then why not let them vote. Every player in the nhl is more skilled than any fan so bringing in "grinders" isnt that big of a deal.
i think the most random by far was Jiri Sekac.
👍
Nascar literally has the best all star game
It's happening at 7 right?
Thanks bud
Jaroslav Modry in 2002
The all star weekend is a joke players dont seam to want to go and not to mention they put up zero efforts during the games. The 3V3 womens games was more exiting them then men's games. Gary Roberts dad? Looks just like em 5:08 5:08
why carey price is not on this list?
hes amazing
Worst all stars for sports cuz it’s right during my exams 😒
Nba all stars are during someone elses exams
The pro bowl is the best
If fan vote didn't exist, All 4 Sports would have better All-Star Game. But no, most of the underrated players will not be in the All-Star Game,

only way lucic would attend is if 600 other nhl players had shit to do
Maybe I am weird but I much preferred almost any other format for the all star game, East v West, NA v Europe and Captains Picking teams.
This division v division 3v3 nonsense sucks, I have zero interest in watching it.
the pro bowl is a joke the NFL is the punchline
The whole “every team should have representatives” thing is shit. It must be cancelled
Joe Cirella Devils 84. Wasn’t even the best player on an awful team.
The jerseys are garbage
montréal is the worst team of the league since 93;)
I got 420th like
Marchand should be in it. Easily
Ayyyye first like and comment
Jackdg 43
No one cares
Linus Bertling whoa
First
John Scott is the worst player traded or signed to the Canadiens
Yyeeeett
Im early for once!
I don't get it, why is the NHL trying to kill the fun out of the all-star game? Just let the fans have some fun! No wonder why the NHL is smaller next to the other major sports smh
Jacob slavin?????
Yeah only way he got in is because he plays defense
