  • Actress Brie Larson plays author Jeannette Walls in the new film “The Glass Castle,” based on Walls’ best-selling memoir about her dysfunctional family. Walls tells Kathie Lee that she thought she would become a “pariah” when the book was published; instead she had a “dream come true” by being played by an Oscar-winning actress.

it was NOT the best they could do. They were sitting on about a million dollars of land that the mother selfishly didn't sell to take care of their children. They did not take care of their children as best they could.

The Rose Mary we meet in the movie looks like freakin Mary Poppins next to the real thing! The real Rose Mary would go out and buy herself big chocolate bars while her children were _starving_ and no she didn't share them!

EXACTLY THEY DIDNT DO THE BEST THEY COULD!!! There were hopeful beautiful moments with the father and the kids but the entire story was so sad and hard it is words I can’t even describe it’s so sad the father died I mean I cried really hard it’s so hard to say if he was an entirely bad man I don’t really think he was all bad and same with the mother. They didn’t do the best they could have there was always more to do especially with all that money I wish the father wasn’t a drunk and they took the money and supported the kids and weren’t selfish everything would have been so much better.

I disagree a lot with what the interviewer said. They did not do everything they could for their kids. Has this lady read the book?

I have no idea what went wrong with critics but I felt it's a good film especially the performances of Brie Larson and Woody Harrleson and also the Cinematography is spectacular

How did her parents do the best they could do when they both kept willfully leaving their jobs, buying candy and alcohol, and just mainly being all around selfish? I don't like the sanitization that's being forced her, the rawness of the story is what makes it so powerful.

They did not do the best they could do!! The story is not only about a family living in poverty but about extremely neglectful parents that took money from their kids, let them starve, ignored their sexual abuse, chose not to work when there was no food in the house, and they were basically sitting land worth on a million dollars the whole time!

I agree. It's because Ms. Walls was able to weave all these dark elements into the work that I had to see it twice. It is truly masterful and profoundly sad.

The parts of the book where he stated that Brian “could take it, he’s a man.” Absolutely insane. I couldn’t get past that.

Brie gives an amazing, brutally raw, and hit the target performance in this difficult book adaptation .

It was so obvious the interviewer had not read the book. I just finished reading it and Jeannette’s parents DID NOT do the best they could, the children survived the best they could based on the horrendous circumstances 😢

That thing Jeannette said about being seen as a pariah for telling her story, I definitely understand! A lot of times when people are honest about their misfortunes people will feign sympathy or pity but really stop seeing the individual as a person and judge them harshly and will also just be grateful its not their problem.
