भारत में करीब 50 लाख हेक्टेयर में गन्ने की खेती Ganne ki Kheti होती है। लेकिन ज्यादातर किसान 200-300 कुंटल प्रति एकड़ का ही उत्पादन ले पाते हैं। वहीं दूसरी तरफ महाराष्ट्र और कर्नाटक के कुछ इलाकों में किसान 1000 कुंटल प्रति एकड़ से ज्यादा का उत्पादन ले रहे हैं। करोड़ों की किसानों की मुख्य फसल गन्ने की उपज में इतना अंतर क्यों? वैज्ञानिक इस अंतर के लिए गन्ने कि किस्म और जलवायु के साथ ही खुले में सिंचाई और पोषण के प्रबंधन को सबसे बड़ा कारण मानते हैं। कम लागत, अधिक उपज और फायदे के लिए सूक्ष्म सिंचाई यानि ड्रिप इरिगशन को अपनाने की सलाह दी जाती है। देशभर के शोध संस्थान भी गन्ने में ड्रिप के इस्तेमाल की वकालत करते हैं, उनके मुताबिक सूक्ष्म सिंचाई से 30-40 फीसदी तक पानी की बचत होगी जबकि सिर्फ जड़ों में पानी जाने से 20-30 फीसदी तक पैदावार भी बढ़ सकती है। और जिन किसानों ने इसे अपनाया है, उन्हें फायदा भी मिल रहा है। तकनीक से तरक्की में ऐसे ही एक युवा किसान से मिलिए जो नई तकनीक से खेती कर मुनाफा कमा रहे हैं।
Ganna Kisan सुनील सिंह, देश के सबसे बड़े गन्ना उत्पादक राज्य उत्तर प्रदेश के बहराइच जिले के टेंडवा बसंतपुर में रहते हैं। कृषि से बीएससी की पढ़ाई करने वाले सुनील सिंह अपने ज्ञान को दूसरों की नौकरी के बजाए अपने खेतों में लगाना चाहते थे। सुनील सिंह अपने पिता के साथ मिलकर 10 एकड़ में ट्रेंच और रिंग पिट विधि से गन्ने की खेती करते हैं। पिछले कुछ वर्षों में उन्होंने अपनी परंपरागत खेती में कई बदलाव किए हैं। सुनील कहते हैं, बूंद-बूंद सिंचाई से अब वो एक प्वाइंट से अपने कई काम करते हैं।

Scientists owe this large difference in produce to different climate and water conditions along with nutrition management and open irrigation system.
For good production,low input cost and high benefits they recommend drip irrigation, According to them microirrigation can save upto 30-40% of water. Production increases by 20-30% if only roots are watered.
