- How did you spend your quarantine? Jimmy Buffett asked the fans to tell him which songs, not in his usual repertoire, would they like to hear? Within minutes, over 10,000 tracks were requested. Some songs he had to re-learn as it's been so long since he played them! Directed by Jimmy's daughter, Delaney Buffett, the docuseries is an inside look of the stories and inspirations of the songs.
The series has become a fan favorite which of course evolved into recording his favorites with producer/bandmate Mac McAnally and Coral Reefers Peter Mayer and Eric Darken. Available at: smarturl.it/SYDKBH
So happy Delaney allowed us into her father's life by recording these videos and stories. Sorry for your loss, as I am sure you're aware your father touched a lot of hearts and he will be missed but not forgotten.
SO well stated, friend!
I cannot overstate the debt we owe to Delaney for arranging these videos. Thank you Delaney. Keep talking to them statues.
A true Parrot Head knows each and every one of these songs by heart.
My wife referred to the album as the songs Jeff knows by heart
@@jturner606 I may only be 36 but I grew up on Jimmy thanks to my pops. He was/is a true Parrot Head. By the time I was like 12 I knew all these songs (yeah I am getting old, I have known these songs 2/3 of my life).
I love his songs. Jimmy’s writing style is awesome
Yeah we do. We even. Knew. Based off something in his life. Going to his concerts was a summer thing. We just did it
Indeed we do 🫧🦜
I think Delaney captured the real Jimmy (dad) Buffett. I will never forget leaving a concert and we had a long walk to our car. We ended up going a long way around the venue and just as we got to a place near our car a limo came past with the window down and it was Jimmy wishing us a good night and thanking us for coming. I will never forget that moment how he was one of us. Not a celebrity to high to connect with his people.
This has always been one of favs. Quick story, after a show in Detroit which Jimmy did not sing this song, we were in a mini mart and I started singing this song and on the other side of the aisle someone I never met started singing along. We completed the whole song and then went on our merry way.
💜🫂
It is like a chapter of my life has closed. I guess I also am getting old. Goodbye Jimmy. God speed.
I know. I feel exactly the same. 💔
Mine too \ life will never be the same
One of my favorites...cant stay for the whole song...just too soon and too painful. RIP
I am so very greatful that Jimmy, and Delaney were able to record this series. The stories behind some of his less known songs (although I still will hold today, that a true Parrot Head will know all of the songs you don't know by heart, by heart). Jimmy lived as carefree as we can only hope, and I think that is why he kept hidden his own health struggles, he didn't want to worry and burden us with them. I was born a Parrot Head, and will die a Parrot Head, may Jimmy RIP.
Thank you Delaney for your generous gift of these interviews. We all loved your Dad.
Family Buffet, I am so very sorry for the passing of the magnificent man of Margaritaville Jimmy..🐦 Thank you for sharing your husband and dad with all of us. I became a Parrothead as a kid in 1974 and I couldn't wait until I grew up so I could go to one of Jimmy's concerts. It took a little longer, I was in my mid 20s before I could actually get a pair of tickets, back then I was always at work and I could never just go and stand in line for tickets.( old days). It was the best concert I've ever been to. It was like you entered a special city of camaraderie, joy laughter, dancing and checking out all the unique people dressed in cool outfits. I saw tiki bars set up in parking lots, beaches created in the back of pickup trucks with sand, inflatables of all types, sounds of blenders making margaritas with shark fins on heads, fake parrots on people's shoulders and lots of Hawaiian shirts and girls with grass skirts.. I would have loved to have gone to more concerts but unfortunately here he sold out within minutes and I never got another chance. But it didn't stop me from listening to every new album and always falling in love with his lyrics and music. You are all in my thoughts, heart and prayers and may you be surrounded by love and comforting from those who love you! As always Love, Fins Up, Bubbles up and remember Wrinkles will only go where the smiles have been. 🐦 🌸 🦈 🌺 🌴 🦐 🌈 ❤
I cried this morning when I heard the news. Thanks for the music Jimmy. Glad to know you paid the Minimart back!
Before I'd even heard of Jimmy, I met a couple of Peace Corps guys in Paraguay who sang this song way back in 1976. It was catchy enough that I could sing the chorus after hearing it once. Then of course there have been decades of enjoying Jimmy's music since then. We'll miss you, Jimmy.
Delaney ... 🦜🫂 Jimmy Touched us all and gave us so many great memories... condolences to you and family 🕊
Thank you for sharing your fine daddy with us..gosh we miss him but not as much as you....your daddys songs are lifes joy to our hearts.❤
Such a sweet story & a beautiful man! Thank you Jimmy! You will be greatly missed. The Coast Is Clear❤
The only celebrity I ever cried over praying for his family loved ones and friends and all of us parrot heads ❤
Sail on through the stars, Jimmy.
Thanks Delaney for sharing your dad's music. He means a lot to another of us.
Delaney, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ve always enjoyed your Dad’s music, and always admired him, but through these absolutely wonderful videos of you and your Dad, I’m falling in love with one of a kind Jimmy, all the great stories behind every song, and then the music itself. He is a national treasure and he left us so so much.
🦜🦜🦜❤️🌴🌴🌴🎸🎸
The music itself is just part of the story, part of the ride, and I’m just very grateful.
One of my all time favs! We knew it had to be based on real life. I played this album so much my Mom would sing the lyrics with me! Such joy! 🥰
Can't repay him for everything he has done in my life. His music just took me away. Now i do key west ever year. Rip
I don't know how I never saw any of these from a couple years back. I'm binge watching them now. These are fantastic. I first heard some of his songs 30+ years ago and it's been a fixture since and forever. RIP Jimmy.
rest in peace sir. you are a legend and will be missed.
When I was a kid my parents would play this cd every time we went to the beach, all these years later I still sing this song with my mom every time we go out shopping. Its so subtle but its still such a big part of our lives it just happens subconsciously. Didn’t even think back then I would live in Mississippi like I do now, life just has a way of going full circle like that.
Rest in Peace, Jimmy. Thanks for all the great music!
These are absolutely priceless. RIP, Jimmy. Thanks for these, Delaney.
Boy I hadn't heard this in a long time, but I sure remember it from my Jimmy Buffet mixtapes. Drove all over Colorado for years with Jimmy Buffett playing in the cassette desk. Gonna miss you, Jimmy. Glad I saw you when I could 💕
Thank you so much Delaney. Thank you so much Jimmy we will always miss you. So incredibly proud of you. We should all be so fortunate to have a daughter as wonderful as Delaney and a father as amazing as Jimmy. Not sure when and maybe never will these not bring a tear to my eye. We will love you beyond mere words.
Delaney, you are doing something special. I used to hang out in Hattiesburg in those days but did not get quite that desperate.
Jimmy, many folks consider such songs to be skiffle, but they are nostalgia to us 70+ individuals who have survived the '60s TWICE.
Please consider this...one way of honoring Jimmy would be to have Zac, Kenny, or Alan lead a concert tour with the full Reefer band for a year. One caveat....the fans must be allowed to tail-gate as we always have! We would have all the parts for a full Jimmy show, minus The GOAT. If none can commit to a year long tour, EACH lead for 4 months! I think Jimmy would approve.
RIP Jimmy. Southern Miss to the Top. H’burg native here and always heard stories about Jimmy’s time. The old 4th street grocery (The North Endzone) had a great picture of Jimmy in the booth at a football game hanging above the dart boards
Thank you Delaney for these videos. RIP Jimmy Buffet.
JB strumming and singing solo, doing a classic like this, it truly warms your heart! 🥰
My heart breaks for your family😢. Thank you so much, Delaney, for sharing these wonderful videos with us🥰❣️ He was such a part of my life that I didn’t realize it until he passed. He and the coral reefer band were my stress management, my celebration, my escape, my relaxation...and will continue to be. Such a powerful writer so many took for granted. A true gem. I pray you and your family have strength in this difficult time🙏. He loved y'all very much❤. And we will love him forever. Sail on Jimmy🌅❣️
Delaney: We are SO grateful for your documentation and interviewing before we lost this blend of prophet and heretic! It is so great to hear him speak about how individual songs came about! TY so much!
This just might be my favorite Jimmy Buffett song.
🦜. Rest In Paradise Jimmy, you were one of a kind! 🦜
TY JB. WE MISS U😢
I have always and will always love this song, and I'm so grateful for this inside look at Jimmy! Thank you, Delaney!
Love it. Damn I’ve been singing along for almost 50 years..
What a treasure these videos are, thanks for the memories.
Thank You Delaney
Damnation,, i binn listenin to You since early 70z & never gitt tired of You,, ever. I grew up in Port St Joe, fl & always felt akin tuyah. Dont know what ida dunn without cha. Youdah bestiss of all time man. Thank God fer You buddy. Now to listen to 'Cowboy In The Jungle. 🙂
Jimmy is such a great storyteller. My absolute favorite performer of all time and keeps making me smile year after year! Great interview, Delaney!
This song just went from a barely-ever-listen-to to a favorite status, now that it comes with this context and this very endearing video presentation. Very very cool story.
I love hearing the stories behind these songs. And shoplifting was so much easier to get away with back then😅. They didn't have a bunch of security cameras in those stores like they do now.
What a freakin' treasure these videos are for us. Can't thank you enough for doing this. I'm sure at the time, you had no idea how impactful they would be for your father's fans. I'm still crying each day as I'm sure millions are. My husband told me to stop playing JB music because it is just too sad. I'm not ready yet. Peace Jimmy.
Thank You Delaney ❤❤ WHATTA GREAT GUY 😃😃😃 I appreciate you letting us see all these hilarious and SEAUX ⚜️⚜️ enjoyable videos . Sending ALL MY LOVE TO YOUR AMAZING FAMILY DARLIN
I stepped out for a bit this morning to run some errands when I spotted a copy of Tis The Sea Son sitting on the dashboard of my truck. And of course I put in my Kenwood CD player. It was a ray of sunshine for me when it was released in October of 2016. I fell in love with Drivin' The Pig the moment I first heard it. It's just one of those happy feel good songs that I will always cherish.
RIP.
I knew you would pay the Mini Mart back, Jimmy. This is one of my top five favorite songs of yours. ❤️
I was watching a video a couple of weeks ago of life in the Philippines. It was hosted by a UA-camr name The Fillipina Pea. In the video I saw a sign across a building that said Mini Mart. This song immediately popped into my head. My family starting with my oldest brother John have been listening to Buffett for years. I miss those days of concerts, family camp trips with Buffett music playing all weekend long, party's with the Detroit parrot heads. Sadly my brother died over a year ago and tonight I cried so hard remembering those days.
This is wonderful! So glad she did this! Love him more the more I hear 😢❤
Always loved this song, but I remember hearing it in concert outside of Chicago - either Poplar Creek or Tinley Park, and he ended the song with "We would pay the mini-mart back! Never did!!" Ha -ha!!
Buffet was doing a show in Daytona Beach and it was just him, at the end of the show Savanna walked on stage and she was like 2 years old, my wife had tears rolling down her cheeks because Jimmy had just finished singing “ LITTLE MISS MAGIC “ we had a son 9 months later. Thinking back on it now, my sons now 39 years old. How time flies by.
Thank you for sharing! I been a fan since 1974.
Always a man with a plan...with alittle luck sprinkled in for luck...about 50 years of lovin it...best wishes Jimmy..thanks for the memories...fins up baby.
Priceless! I love these 🙂
When my Parents kicked me out of home when I was 17...the local Milk delivery man kept me alive...he did not know it...well maybe he did... but he did...many years later I got a chance to tell his daughter that story she said it was ok...he understood and I guess he knew what I was doing when he made his delivery in our neighborhood...
Lol, I took meat and bought rice, flour, ect. lived on a lot of dumplins, love this!!! Hey, I was a college student 1977
Started listening around '78, so I missed some of these early songs until I dug back over the years and love this one, especially since it's true. Saw you at Kings Dominion in Richmond, VA for the first of 20+ times. and as a rookie threw my glass pint of tequila up on stage for you to catch, but I missed. Need say. mea culpa, mea culpa, and feel better!
That story/song would make a funny episode for a TV series.
My favorite song and the first song I ever heard of his and always wondered why it wasn't promoted
You can tell he was sick- but still cranking out good times
Great favorite album.
Been listening since I was tall enough to reach the 8 track... My all time favorite, God Bless!!!
General rule of thumb? If you see someone stealing food: No, you didn't.
I love his early work ! I hope the recently converted Parrotheads search these albums out. It helps you learn so much about the man.
God Bless jimmy
Had to hear this song. The Arlo and Janis comic refers to this today. (18 Sept 2023). We're all mourning parrot heads.
1:51 In my hometown, there was a shifting core of musicians forming "the band" (regardless of the advertised name) - EVERY one of them, shoplifting some grubs, would boast how - IF they hit Big Fame - they'd pull up there in a limo, tell the owner how the store had kept them alive, and give them ""$10K" for the store keeping them going. HaHa (Sadly, though there was genuine talent, none were able to fulfill the vow.) As a C-store worker of MANY years, I appreciate this song via the nostalgic, ironic promises of the hard-luck heroes who didn't make the break and their likely BS assurances!
You and Bert Rakerat were two of the best song riters the US ever had.
Totally agree. People laugh when I say my favorite songwriters are the Beatles and Jimmy Buffett.
BACHARACH
Love these stories. Esp this one. Honesty and candidness.
Loved this!
Excellent
I played this on my acoustic back in the 70s. It was a great party song that people loved. I usually sang it right after John Prines Illegal smile. One guy didn't like the song. He managed a 7/11.
I love these videos
9/5/23@13:39
I loved these videos when I first saw them and now they make me smile on the days that I have been so sad! Rest in Peace , Jimmy…. and May your family find comfort and peace in all the times you made them smile.
I was hoping someday that Jimmy would perform nearby and I'd be able to sneak backstage and meet him and beg him to allow me to duet this and a few other classics. He has been one of my childhood favorites since my dad would play his CD's when my parents would have friends over and I'd hear them playing from my bed. I later got his CD's after my dad's death, and now with Amazon music and youtube I've been duetting him in my bed for almost 20 years now as well as singing to some karaoke tracks.. Why don't we get drunk, and Margaritaville.. But I also have this and great filling station holdup memorized and it's part of my bedtime ritual to belt these out with my echo show playing in bed before I go to sleep. I considered Jimmy a national treasure, and his passing has removed a great man from our lives. and when my time finally comes I am hopeful that he will grant me the honor of a duet so my dad can see the legacy he passed on to me. but I know my Dad is duetting him singing Why don't we get drunk, which was my father's favorite.. :) Rest in Peace Jimmy.
If anyone is ever struggling with the definition of Morality here you have the answer. The man's morality is unquestionable. Aside for his artistic genius, there has always been a look in his eye that say I love life, fun, everything and I love being and doing right. His understanding, acceptance and humility shine through. He knew what he did was not right, he understood his situation and had to survive and he did what he could do to right the wrong. But. But perhaps most importantly he had the humility, not as a genius music star or a very rich man or a very famous man, he had the humility as a man to make a public apology. What a gift to us all. It is never too late to open your heart and search and find the answer and shine the light from within to illuminate the good that lives deep inside.
Every time I hear this song, I want to eat peanut butter sandwiches and sardines ! Really, no joke .Been that way for about 45 years . I got a craving for PB right now, but I aint got any !
So Jimmy, If I ever get caught pilfering powered margarita mix from your gift shop, I will just plead the Peanut Butter Conspiracy😉
@@77thTrombone It was meant to be funny two years ago. Rest in Peace Jimmy, you are missed. I thought it would help listening to your music. Unfortunately today it reminds me that there will be no more concerts, and no more amazing new music from our favorite sailor.
Was the minute mart right by the hospital
Love your stories 🐠🌊🦈💦💥
There ya go. That's head parotthead ways
Was a parrot head way before parrot head started , use to watch him key west when he just got there
So adorable Jimmy Thank God for your Catholic guilt - it did you good. RIP Peace to the hearts of your family.
I'm a little let down that Jimmy hasn't occasionally kept his skills honed.
I still steal pens from people for fun🤫
That's not necessarily "Catholic guilt". I'd call paying the mini mart back fulfilling a promise he made to his younger self. No guilt required. God rest you, James William Buffett. ❤
❤
Hard to believe so laid back at you were looking at a billionaire
🙏🏻 Have a safe journey home😊
LOL - this takes me back to my misspent youth... we had a dare in place, where you had to go into a supermarket and secretly make a sandwich - that had a preset list of ingredients.
Once it was made, you had to eat it in the supermarket and then buy a packet of chewing gum on the way out. We never got caught. - In reflection, I do feel bad about it now though.
Its unpleasent how peanut butter rsembles a crapy diaper😂
❤💓❤💓
3:12 OMG! OK, *should* I be surprised that Jimmy kept that stoned/drunkard's blah-blah promise and left repayment? 🤔 Truly: No, I should NOT be surprised. And HUGE karma-kudos to him for keeping the ubiquitous bar-band hoper's vow!
🔥💔🏴☠️
My wife and I have always wondered - did he ever pay the Mini-Mart back?
Based
a true parrot head knows, nothings for certain.
Did ya pay em back?
Did ya watch the video??
We were sittin’ in the Krystal bout as drunk as we could be…in walked a deputy sheriff holding our Japanese tv…he roughed us and cuffed us and took us all to jail….we’re wanted men…we’ll strike again but first let’s have a beer…
