I remember at age 13 seeing my mom's boss pull up in his new 1960 Pontiac Bonneville convertible in this same color and thought at the time it was the most beautiful car I had ever seen !! and it still looks just as good today to my eyes !!.
I love these videos showing cars you would most likely NEVER see on the road. I remember back in the 1970's and 1980's seeing cars like this but it soon faded. Admittedly I never really appreciated these cars but came to admire them in all their glory. And they are glorious. My hat's off to those that have kept them alive. Keep it up Lou Costabile! Love the channel.
My early memories were walking around my grandfather's car in his driveway in New Brunswick, NJ. He had this type of car. My eyes were at the level of the white lights below the tail lights. His was a 4 door. This one is more amazing. I was about 4 years old at the time.
wow .. Holy cow .. what a beautiful candy apple red 1960 Pontiac Bonneville convertible .. awesome body frame, spoke white wall tires ... just think it went from the drawing board to the machinery carving this beauty 60's automobile 🚘 .. interior is magnificent-- just shocking details --- I would not hesitate to fly this car all around town and just enjoy it .. wow .. thanks Lou
Beautiful Bonneville, Lou. We are all so amazed with this car today...think back to the day in 1959 when they were first delivered to the dealership. All anyone had to do was go downtown to the dealership and buy one. Today, they are all but gone. So beautiful. I'll take one in green, please! Thumbs up. And for anyone who loves this clip, please subscribe. Lou is the best car deteail guy on UA-cam!

When we were kids we had a 1960 Pontiac Station wagon with the round rear lights and light fin , It was that " Metallic Copper " and had a rear facing back seat so you looked at the traffic behind on you .. .Wish we had it today
From the white top to the white walls, this Bonneville is just fantastic! Mr. Hansen continues to delight us all with his taste in Pontiacs. Thanks, Lou!
George has a beautiful car. My Grandpa had a red like that one two door hardtop Bonneville. He had the seats covered in thick clear plastic uncomfortable and noisey seat covers as was the furniture in his living room haha. It was SUCH a beautiful car. He replaced it later with a silver/grey '67 or '68 Bonneville four door hardtop. It was a beauty and powerful but never seemed as cool to me as the '60. I remember a GTO ad in the magazines that said "LET GO OF THE GRAB BAR CHARLIE, YOU'R TEARIN' OUT THE DASH!" You mentioned in the video about "body rock". When you revved those Pontiac engines the torque rocked the entire car over to the right. My first car was a '64 GTO 4speed.

Hi Lou, another beauty, bless this guy for having it... My father had a 59 Old Dynamic 88 wagon, those single brakes are fine for 1 or 2 stops and that's how they were then. NOW that brakes are so advanced you notice the difference but then it was 'normal' to take over 200 feet to stop from 60. AMAZING restoration BTW

Just happened to see one of your videos earlier this morning and I’ve already watched 5 more since then… I’m hooked! Following your page now! Love all the old classics and you have very good taste in what you’re deciding to show us! These old Pontiacs are beauts (especially the 59 Bonneville, which is one of my favorite vehicles of all time). Keep the videos coming! You now have a new fan… drooling over all the wonderful vehicles you highlight! It's a shame, that most Millennials never got the economic opportunity to get into the car hobby. At least a few of them, were able to get into it via Japanese vehicles.

I had a 1960 Bonneville Convertible back in 1969 before i went in the Army, but someone stole my car. It was like a brownish color and the multi interior with the 389 High Performance then. I loved that car and use to wax the car every weekend back then.

Production of the 1960 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible was 17,062 units. GM was successful in selling convertibles at that time. Air conditioning was becoming more common in Cadillacs and Lincolns at that time...but it was an expensive $430 option in a Pontiac. Bonnevilles in 1960 had genuine walnut inserts and available leather upholstery...both very deluxe features in a medium priced car. Aluminum hubs and drums were a $107 option. The 1960 Pontiac lineup was Catalina, Ventura (basically a deluxe trimmed Catalina only sold as a separate model in both 1960 and 1961...then available afterwards as a trim option but not as a separate model), Star Chief (leftover model name from the 1950s that persisted until 1966), and Bonneville. Big Pontiacs were popular in Canada but used the shorter Chevrolet chassis, smaller Chevrolet engines, and narrow track (but used the same fenders, trim, etc.). Before 1959, Pontiac had a reputation as a rather dull, if somewhat overstyled car. But the limited production 1957 Bonneville and the wide-track 1959 models changed that image. This example has Coronado Red paint.
Those beautiful illustrations in that brochure were done by Art Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman, otherwise known as "Fitz and Van." They did Pontiac's advertising illustrations too, from 1959-1972, and they made the cars look even lower and wider and in beautiful settings too. A totally unique look in advertising. Thanks for featuring this 1960 Bonneville.
I think their advertising account with Pontiac ended with the 1971 models. Afterwards, they illustrated with Opel in Europe for a few more years. Before Pontiac they illustrated for Buick from 1954 to 1956.

Man that is a beautiful car, in a beautiful color.. the 389 four barrel was a pretty good Engine 333 horsepower, and 425 ft lb of torque.. in 1960 that was the big dog engine next to the tri-power which had 430 ft pounds of torque and 348 horsepower.. they didn't come out with the 421 until 1964. I had a 1967 Grand Prix with the 421 and tri-power, that car could really melt tires. Thanks a lot Lou that is just a beautiful example of 1960s automobile art.
I HAD A 60 BONNEVILE CONVERTIBLE WITH TRI POWER, WHITE ON MAROON.. LOVED THAT CAR, DON'T KNOW WHY I SOLD IT !!! ONLY MOD WAS PROGRESSIVE LINKAGE, MADE THOSE 3 DEUCES RESPOND MUCH FASTER... DROVE IT FROM HELENA MT. TO SAN DIEGO NON STOP ....

BEST REGARDS. From Venezuela, IMPRESSIVE BONNEVILLE CONVERTIBLE. Mr. Lou, Super Thank you for showing us this INCREDIBLE CONVERTIBLE. Mr, Lou, Thanks for taking us for a ride. As always an EXCELLENT AUTOMOBILE VIDEO.
The 389 WAS the biggest engine available for Pontiac in 1960. The 420 -A option was just a high output 389 which increased it to 348 horsepower, along with the tri powered carburetor option.

Gorgeous car, Lou. I don't think I could get that thing in my garage, it's likely way too long!! Love the retractable soft-top. This era's convertibles were a true work of brilliant engineering. By comparison, I have a 2020 Mazda Miata Soft-Top. There's a clasp in the center of the roofline that you un-clasp and shove the entire top back and down in seconds. It's not as elegant as these older cars but efficient and quick. Of course the Miata is a midget by comparison and so much easier to design a system around that would do this. I love 50's/early 60's cars. If I only had room for one more... ;)
I remember big luxury cars back in the 60s and 70s being so smooth riding, like floating on your living room sofa. Todays cars handle and corner better but can not match the smoothness of those cars.
Hi guglielmo64, You're right. I videoed this car, before there was editing on this Channel, so this car worthy of another interview with added drive bys, and a ride included too, Lou
Beautiful car and George is very nice guy. I love that sort of "candy redhots" color. Perfect for it. 1960 was the last year of the true "yank-tank" cars, as they called them across the pond. Only Cadillac would continue the "dog-leg" A-pillar up until 1965 on their formal cars.
One of the coolest designs of this car, as Mr. Hanson and I have talked about, are the fins. They way Pontiac laid them down is unlike any car of that era.
This car has a lot of great features and styling cues. Looks great with the top or down which not many cars pull off. Love the 8 bolt wheels. One of the best looking wheels ever in my opinion.
Hi )3!u3☠️$k33, "Wow one could make 3 Toyota Corollas just outta the hood of that car!!!" I think you're right :-) Happy to read you enjoy this "sweet" car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Thank you so much George and Lou for showing us this fantastic car! Lou, I've got to tell you your channel is such a breath of fresh air compared to all the gloom and doom that dominates the news. Thank you again! Love your channel!
Cranberry red is a great GM color. Pontiac was selling narrow tracks in Canada which were Pontiac bodies mounted on Chevrolet frames. What's nice about those Pontiac V-8 blöcks is that all of them from the 326 to the 455 were externally identical. Which means, you could swap the weakling 389 connected to a hydramatic with a 455 connected to a Turbo Hydramatic 400 without anyone noticing a visual difference, while harvesting generous Brake-torque burn-outs
@@bobbybishop368 Not in my book. For me, it would be like getting married and thereafter just sitting there holding hands and nothing more. A 389 will move that car. But has been known for moving G.T.O.s even better
@@aldente2676 you can only drive so fast without breaking the law. 389's are plenty powerful enough to go the speed limit and then some. What more do you want ? People like you are the reason I sometimes fear to drive on public roads.
¡Excelente video, y saludos cordiales!
I'm pretty much a Ford guy, but will admit that the 1960 Pontiacs were among the best looking cars that year. I think this car and the 1960 Thunderbird Convertible were the two best looking American cars of the year, and I think the 59 Bonneville convertible and 59 Thunderbird convertible were also the best looking cars of 1959 as well.
Love the car, but miss the '59 tail fins and the split grill ! I guess others missed the split grill too because in 1961 they brought it back and with horizontal taillights once again.

Hi James, Happy to read "that is just a beautiful example of 1960s automobile art." :-) Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You're welcome, Lou
Lou, those gorgeous neighborhoods and homes where you film are great. I suspect they are 100s of miles away from Chicago proper.
Hi John, They're about 30 miles West of Chicago. Lou
Chicago has a tendency to move closer in the direction of those neighborhoods faster than one could imagine
@@aldente2676 OK, been waiting almost 20 years! Enough of the lawlessness. Oh, but wait, in 2023, No bail in ILL for crimes. WTF!!!

Just like you and all your features, George's Pontiac is impeccable! Thanks Lou!
High praise :-) You're welcome Brian SD!
When cars were real cars and built to lasts 💪💪😃😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍👍
Nice !
The 389 WAS the biggest engine available for Pontiac in 1960. The 420 -A option was just a high output 389 which increased it to 348 horsepower, along with the tri powered carburetor option.

HI ariel, You're welcome. Blessings received. God bless you and your friends too, Lou
I like that radiator tag - methanol. They should have added the caveat: Cats love it !!
Thanks for viewing and sharing what you notice.
If I only had room for one more... ;)
Hi Ken, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're on the right UA-cam Channel for the kind of cars you enjoy, Lou
I remember big luxury cars back in the 60s and 70s being so smooth riding, like floating on your living room sofa. Todays cars handle and corner better but can not match the smoothness of those cars.
Hi Nicky Naime, Thank you for sharing the ride feel you have when you're in cars of today and yesterday, Lou
Lou, you did this one before (along with his awesome '62 Olds Starfire) and I'm glad you did. This gentleman has 2 incredible automobiles!
Plus a killer '59 Bonneville, a sweet 430 '60 T Bird and a very nice '73 Eldorado. 5 of the nicest cars you will ever see.
Hi guglielmo64, You're right. I videoed this car, before there was editing on this Channel, so this car worthy of another interview with added drive bys, and a ride included too, Lou
Style in steel!!
Well said :-)
Beautiful car and George is very nice guy. I love that sort of "candy redhots" color. Perfect for it. 1960 was the last year of the true "yank-tank" cars, as they called them across the pond. Only Cadillac would continue the "dog-leg" A-pillar up until 1965 on their formal cars.
Hi Joseph, Happy to read you enjoy the color of this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
One of the coolest designs of this car, as Mr. Hanson and I have talked about, are the fins. They way Pontiac laid them down is unlike any car of that era.
Hi Richard, Happy to read you enjoy this "coolest design" :-) Lou
One of my favorite cars, but the bubbletop is my preference.
Happy to read this is a favorite of yours :-)
This car has a lot of great features and styling cues. Looks great with the top or down which not many cars pull off. Love the 8 bolt wheels. One of the best looking wheels ever in my opinion.

You could but why would you? Stock is where it's at, 389 a weakling?
I wouldn't call the 389 a weakling. There's more to a great automobile than the capability to do burnouts.
Hi Al Dente, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@bobbybishop368 Not in my book. For me, it would be like getting married and thereafter just sitting there holding hands and nothing more.
A 389 will move that car. But has been known for moving G.T.O.s even better
@@aldente2676 you can only drive so fast without breaking the law. 389's are plenty powerful enough to go the speed limit and then some. What more do you want ? People like you are the reason I sometimes fear to drive on public roads.
What a great car, Reminds me of us having a 60 Olds Super 88 when I was a kid.
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your family car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
¡Excelente video, y saludos cordiales!
Hi Jaime, High praise for the looks of this car :-) Thank you for sharing the details you enjoy, Lou

@@aldente2676 Good question.🤔
Hey Lou, didn't George have a 1959 Bonneville convertible? I seem to recall you featured it a couple of years ago.
Hi William, You're right, George has a 1959 & a 1960, Lou
I'm pretty much a Ford guy, but will admit that the 1960 Pontiacs were among the best looking cars that year. I think this car and the 1960 Thunderbird Convertible were the two best looking American cars of the year, and I think the 59 Bonneville convertible and 59 Thunderbird convertible were also the best looking cars of 1959 as well.
Hi TheArkDoc, Happy to read you appreciate the looks of this car too. Cars have an amazing way of getting better looking with age, Lou
chingon mr lou
Hapy to read you enjoy this car mr chon :-)
Love the car, but miss the '59 tail fins and the split grill ! I guess others missed the split grill too because in 1961 they brought it back and with horizontal taillights once again.
