- The tragedy of Len Bias' unfortunate passing often overshadows just what a good player he was while playing at Maryland. Bias was a back-to-back ACC Player of the Year in 1985 and 1986. He averaged 23.2 points per game in the 1985-86 season, which currently ranks 3rd highest in Maryland history, and for his career Bias is the Terrapins"' third-highest scorer. Take a look at some of Len Bias' iconic ACC basketball highlights right here.

Watching these highlights from so long ago when I was watching as a 16 year old in Baltimore still makes me tear up a bit thinking of what a life and career he would have had.
Same here his energy I can't deny it when I see it. 👍👍👍
Man , both he and Reggie Lewis would have made the Celtics unstoppable for many years , or any other team lucky enough to have them . Hopefully they win some championships in heaven
@@johnking1233 I'm a die hard Lakers fan, and Georgetown fan. However, Len Bias will always be my all-time favorite player. And even though the Lakers beat the Celtics for the NBA Title in 87, I felt personally robbed that Bias wasn't there to add further intrigue to the series. The Celtics even in the heat of the rivalry vs my Lakers, was about to quietly be my 2nd favorite team to root for. R.I.P. to the man they called "Frosty".
From Springfield, Va (DC/Balt area) watching this live on TV at 12 and younger too. It will NEVER be the same! Len Bias was the only person who had a chance to challenge MJ IMO. (JUST LIKE HE ALWAYS DID FOR OUR ACC TEAM against UNC of the 1980s!! Go TERPS!!!)
Signing off, a 51-yr old nowadays in Phoenix, AZ
I can only imagine the impact he would had on the NBA. He was truly a Talent🏆🏀🏆💪
He did drugs
@@johncoleman4029 Yes he certainly did. I don't know if he was a regular user or experimental user of coke but if he had been clean, he could have been great. Not to Michael Jordan's level but he had chance to be great.
I remember watching him as a teenager. He was dominant in an absolutely loaded conference.
@johncoleman4029 No. That's not true! He was "unalived." 😫 Wake up!
💤😴💤👀👁👀💤😴💤
So smooth. Long arms, he could get above everybody. So sad how it ended.
Reminds me of KD style of player
Just can't get over to his story man just hope will get to see him shine in the next lifetime RIP🙏🏽🙏🏽
I can relate, bro.
Rest In Peace Len.
Dude was smoove on the court mechanics and fundamentals was on point
Man Sky was the Limit for him ! He had bounce like Shawn Kemp , soft touch like Mike and the strength of Barkley !! Bias and Reggie Lewis would of won least 2/3 chips for the Celtics, this set them back least 15 years
100 % not to mention the couple he would have work with the original Big 3. They prob beat the lakers in 87'
All truth.
None of it's truth . He's just a what if .
@@danb1391 they didn't need him in 86,they would have stomped any team that year
@@EzMoney95 false
I watched I'm play tv and he was an awesome college player 6'8 forward how could shot the rock, this was before the 3pt line was implemented, silky smooth who will dunk on you in a crowd,it will always be what if RIP Len (Frosty) Bias.
The greatest I ever seen.
That wing span on a 6’8 body is crazy he def would’ve given mj trouble had he been around it’s sad that he couldn’t make it sadly rip🙏🏽
Classic footage, Leonard Bias, RIP, respect.
Damn.. This dude has the prettiest jumper I've ever seen.
That baseline jumper 😍
Same. Maybe the best baseline jumper ever in college.
That jumpshot in the corner baseline...was so pure. Sorta reminds me of bruce bowens corner three. Except better because it's such a difficult shot to hit consitently. Just imagine this kind of talent going to possibley the greatest team ever the 1986 celtics?. That's just incredible just thinking about it. I have no doubt he wins a title with the celtics. It's such a tragedy we we're all cheated out of seeing that.
Was arguing with old heads at work and they told me about this man he was cold
Len Flew So High! You are an Angel in Heaven now..
Well, he died of a coke OD, so he is probably in hell because he was destroying his body which is his temple. God doesn't like when we abuse or ignore our natural gifts
Best player in ACC history hands down

@@ghost_in_the_robot Haha, look at your goofy troll ass, trying to get people all riled up. The world is so much funnier with y'all in it.
The highlight @316 is one of the greatest plays I’ve ever seen ❤❤❤
I can definitely see the comparison with MJ. That jump shot looks impossible to guard. Just like Mikes.
Jordan didn't make his career off of Dunks, he made it off those un-guardable pull-up jumpers of his. Hardest shot in basketball to guard. Len has the similar shot, just a little different as he extends a little higher and is able to shoot over peoples heads a little more. His shot and release reminds me a little of Bill Cartwright...except with more movement like MJ. He had it.
Used the baseline like no other . He would fade out of bounds and shoot over the backboard. Pretty much ungaurdable
Jordan became a better shooter in the pros, though. Bias was better in college.
What's crazy is he was taller and had just as good of a vertical. Which would have made his fadeaway rival Kareem's hookshot.
I remember when Bias got drafted to the Celtics , went out and partied and died, that was so sad to see a life with such promise end so soon , It was on the cover of Sports Illustrated that year RIP Bias 🙏
ACC still posting maryland? Rest in peace len bro. Probably a hall of famer if able to play in the nba
MISS U LENNY
Gone but not forgotten
The ACC was so crazy loaded with talent back then it's almost impossible to relate and Bias was the best of all of them. It was only a matter of how great he would have been, not if he would have been.
RIP BRO YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST EASLEY!!!
Imagine he played in the association. We'd be talking about his place in history
If him and Reggie Lewis on Celtics roster. Bird have get 5 rings for sure!!
@@chrisjenkins7459 Yep, the 90's could have been a great decade for the Celtics. Turned in to their worst decade.
@@chrisjenkins7459 Also, Jordan wouldn't have had such an easy road and probably wouldn't have 6 rings.
@@greyk610 I mean it would be 2 jordans in 1 decade
TODAVÍA veo esto y es una gran pérdida para el deporte y para los fanáticos 😢😮😢😢😢
Me and some of my friends went to see that Draft 86,half of that Draft Class was NBA draft bust.
So young, so talented, so sad...
Would hv been a greater era to see him vs MJ.
The greatest 😢
Maryland stand up long live Len bias💙💪🏿💪🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
It wouldve been exciting to see him go against Jordan. Len was that dude, but Jordan was a totally different animal.
So was bias. Jordan could not do anything with him.
Gone too soon.
Crazy to think one of the best Celtics teams ever coming off the finals would of had this talent mixed in with those hall of famers so sad

Michael in Lebrons body is the best comparison i can come up with

@@zslaff Nah, Len is Lebron with KD's jumper.
RIP FROSTY
Bro would've put Jordan's legacy on ice.
I am 50 years old and a die Boston fan i still think about him and what if he not die i cry when he die
He was a ‘double strong Dominique’ to me. Would have been the best forward in the league after Bird retired!
RIP King 👑
What would the NBA have been like with Jordan, Wilkins, and Bias added to the many legends and All-Stars already in the league?
The only player that could've challenged Jordan for the king crown. So sad we didn't get to see the battle in the NBA.
LeBron's brutal athleticism with Jordan's smoothness, tenacity, and scoring. What could've been 😢
Oh yeah, this guy was already an MVP level player. RIP.
I see where Jordan got faded jumper from, len bias
Bias definitely would’ve made a mark in Jordan’s career. Bias would’ve been like Magic Johnson’s Larry Bird. Bias probably would’ve made Jordan rethink retirement.
3:00 even had the ref hype😂🔥🔥
He’s very talented sorry he died so young. He would made the Celtics dominant team into the 90s and maybe prevent Bulls 3peats
Biggest what if of all time for the nba imo
Rip Len. I see why Larry Bird said "He would have felt better leaving the Celtics, and passing the torch to Len, if Len would have played.
Celts would have been THE dominant team well into the 90's with Len added to the best team in the league. Perhaps Jordan wouldn't have won as many titles or have been the name we know him as today if he had lived. Cant even imagine Len playing with Bird, McHale, DJ. Damn what a loss.
Feel for his family to this day 😢But thinking about how his career with the Celtics would have been?!! The Lakers would have been in trouble.
One could only imagine him and Jordan battle in the pros
VERY EVERYTHING 🙏🏾
He is a goat
One fatal night of partying resulted in possibly the biggest “what if” in sports history. Still bothers me to this day. This dude had all the physical tools to be one more superstar in the Golden Era of NBA basketball.
I honestly believe that he could've rivaled Michael Jordan. Had he'd lived its been almost 40 years since they played each other. He would've taken the Celtics to a world championship or two.
With Larry Bird's mentorship and influence he would've gone very far.
But now we'll never know. Just another one of those might have been.
Imagine Nik Galis, Larry Bird and Len Bias at the same team....... Come on ...
AND REGGIE RIP
So sad! Kid was in trouble his whole senior year and his parents didn’t know?? He was basically failing out and his parents knew nothing about it? Very sad story!
Larry Bird had nothing but great things to say about Len. That says something...
his jumper was all net every time
He’s like TMac and Larry Johnson in one
Dominique Wilkins but with a better Defensive ability
Lebron before Lebron
The acc had some outstanding players back then. Now Duke gets the best players and can't do anything with them and then they're gone. Virginia is the best and most consistent program in the acc. I am so curious what Tony Bennett could do with Dukes roster.
I wonder if Detroit gets passed Celtics had bias kept progressing
How the hell did the Celtics have the #2 pick in 86’
I was thinking this too

Best in the world
Mike would have had a problem in the league ….. extremely sad story….
Very sad
butterfly effect, if hadn’t died, what would the nba be like today? or at least 90’s basketball
High ass jumper 😂💯, i see why old heads be judging all that extra dribbling , all u need to do is some simple steps w a up high jumper , going up high like you’re levitating all while moving the ball around in the air to dodge getting blocked
More Championships for the Celtics.
rip
Better comparison would’ve been Shawn Kemp, on and off the court.
Bias' jumper was a thousand times better than Kemp's.
Len Bias died so there could be a Michael Jordan. If he would have lived we might be talking about him the way we speak of Jordan. RIP Leonard Bias!!!
Big might.. gotta be able to handle your coke to make it long term in the nba. Remember mikes “flu” game before the jazz in the finals 😂 case and point
Possibly. I don't think he would have been better but would have taken away some of those Bulls champions. Jordan is just too polished. He is definitely a lost competitor to Joedan
Basketball Talk Only brought me here
whatever talent you have,if your metal is weak you are nothing
Whenever NBA top lists are created, I add Len Bias to them.
He never played in the NBA. Remember?
@@marcclement7396 I still add him to MY PERSONAL nba list. Imagining where he would have ended up. I assume he would have been as good as Karl Malone.
Imagining isn’t the same
If Bird and Bias could have played together the Celtics would have been world Champions every year
So you can see the future or your one of those new woke people who rewrite history 🤣

Me too !
What do you say about an NBA career for someone with Jordan's abilities and close to LeBron in size? He works much harder than LeBron and didn't flop or cry like a bitch. Dominique Wilkins comes to mind. Maybe more athletic if that is possible.
As good as Jordan was in college Bias was even better...
