One of the best reachers that I have witnessed with such depth of knowledge and excellence in explaining the concepts behind every step of the way...thank you Amr Awadallah!

Amr, Great presentation, really awesome. Straight to the point, introduced many concepts in understandable manner, and given a reason Hadoop exists and what tries to solve. I'll definitely get into this topic, both feet. Thank you.

Excellent overview of Apache Hadoop by Amr. The session is long but Amr kept it interesting throughout. Very effective in explaining the Hadoop ecosystem. I liked how he explained the difference between Open source and free software. Someone in the reviews seem to have misunderstood that point but I think Amr explained it clearly. Thank you Stanford!

Hadoop is the opposite of virtual servers, you take one server in virtulization and break it into many VMs , hadoop take many physical machines and merge them into a massive virtual server .. i like that ! one of the best introductions foor hadoop

Good intro. The best I've seen so far. The Q&A at 34min into the presentation really brings things into perspective. The Q&A at the end is also good.

On 14:26 .. you make RDBMS database looks like just Dawarehouse option ignoring OLTP and OLAP system.
We don't use always ETL to load data to database .. Most of time we use sqlloader for example and not ETL.

Schemas are NOT built to answer specific questions. Thats an incorrect statement. If a schema is built using correct dimensional modelling procedures then one of the most direct advantages is the data model or so call the schema is scalable to any rational changes in the busines or its structure.

1:01:22 This is very misleading. "Open Source" and "Free Software" are not the same. Richard Stallman would go crazy if he heard you say that about his life's work. Although I appreciate that this was a couple of years ago and that you may have learned what "Free Software" is since this talk.
