Shadow being a little sht stirer is funny asf to me. Also kind of heartbreaking; he was at enough ease in his life at one point to be able to be like that. Just....kind of loose. Not so rigid. 😢
As someone who is getting into animation I completely understand why they cut what they did. That art takes an eternity so it is usually is often for the best to cut what you can to save time. I am a bit sad but I probably would have done the same thing in their shoes. At least we get to see the cut content at all.
Yeah as an animator, Ive had to scrap a ton of content over the years. Its always interesting to see the WIPs of a huge project. Im always happy when I complete an animation and it does well though
The pacing's also just better in the final product. Episode 2 is a bit short, and getting more interaction with Omega would have been nice, but conversely, the ending of Episode 3 was much more impactful and emotional in the final cut. Ultimately, this is a work in progress. Any artist knows that the WIP will change, and while you might have to leave good stuff on the cutting room floor, it helps the final project in the long run.
@@lionsforscottiethere is a lot of stuff in animation that gets cut. Not just because there isn’t enough time but because there’s things that they don’t feel are necessary anymore.
There are some changes I approve of them making, but there were far more that I legitimately said "why in the WORLD did they cut that?!" One of my favorites being Shadow blowing up a legion of missiles with a rain of Chaos Spears. I would've DIED if I saw that in HD!
That was super cool, but I understand why it was cut - too much for one scene between that and chaos control. The final version flows better. Better to save that for a future game (maybe titan style boss fight?) where it can have its spotlight
Maybe it was cut so Doom Spear power would make sense in the game to obtain. If Shadow could already create such a huge number of Chaos Spears, then the new power would be just a recolor. But maybe it was because to animate such a huge number of objects on screen is really expansive.
Alright, I wish they kept the school scene, because Maria was really cute there and I loved the fact Shadow carried her and ran with her to get her to a safer place in P1. Agh, they should kept all of the things they removed...
The final product is better overall, but Omega got the biggest shaft. Without his motive for helping Rouge in exchange for Eggman's data and his extra camaraderie with the group: "I will prove I am the strongest combat robot!" and "Come Shadow, let's ruin their night." he feels very supplementary.
I kinda like the original version even more than i love the OG. Maria's end is scarier. Shadow placing a hand on his forehead after unleashing that Chaos Spear. Shadow and Abe and Maria's interaction in part 3. Shadow's drawn out "whyyyy" in such a deadpan way is hysterical. Shadow confirming his duality as a means to protect and be a weapon "Yes they wanted the ultimate weapon", wondering and being insecure about his place in the world....the expressions are really good for an animatic too.
Honestly, don’t hunt me down for this, but in my opinion the storyboards are better than the final product. The final animation looks stunning, do not get me wrong! They’re so beautiful they made me cry with just the visuals alone! Everyone did so well! But these storyboards show a much more drawn out and more sensible story, and it allows certain characters to have a bit more screen time. (Looking at you OMEGA.) On top of that, the voice acting and the dialogue feels so much more natural. When Shadow and Rouge are talking, the bat doesn’t tell him they’re in a supply depot until they’re done fighting. And when she proposes going to Sonic’s party, it sounds so much more like her than in the final. And Shadow’s little “Whyyyy…” is too good! Two things I absolutely adore above all though is the inclusion of the scene with past Abe and Shadow, when the human kids are trying to get homework done and Shadow’s just like “Haha L loser you can’t do calculus at age 12 hehehe” (It makes Abe’s disdain for Shadow actually make sense) As well as the final scene with Shadow and Maria. It’s just as heartbreaking as the final. I’m also just a sucker for storyboards lmao I really wanna say so much more, but this comment is already long enough. Thank you for reading this far, your poor eyes must be on fire right now haha! Have a great day/night!
I like the animatic, but I also appreciate the final product for telling the same story while streamlining it. As much as certain parts would’ve made the cut, I’m not upset that they didn’t.
Seeing Maria join Shadow and Abraham's hands together in the flashback that was cut reminded me of when Rouge joined Shadow and Omega's hands in Sonic Heroes to form Team Dark.
I think the final product is better overall, but there some things here that I wished they kept like Shadow carrying Maria to safety and Rouge's extended banter, not to mention the fact that the final edit does Omega SOOO dirty! We definitely missed out on that front!
And people say Maya has to be studio standard. For the record, I like Maya a lot and garnered a more recent understanding of it’s features better than Blender, but when my school account eventually disables, I’m probably not touching it without forking over one of my arms to pay for it or getting access through someone else.
Huh, interesting. They cut out symbolism about a broken tree. As the first part shows Shadow breaking a tree after his nightmare... But in the Final scene they show us at first Shadow and Maria dreaming of visiting Green fields of Earth... And then quick cut and now there is only Shadow... Alone... Sitting by the broken tree. But I understand that clearly it had to be changed - pacing of the cut final scene doesn't work well with "Without You" song. So instead of call back symbolism they went with emotional song ending and "show, don't tell" of Shadow almost losing it but managing to get his emotions under control.
Well, that scene became an extended scene for PS5 exclusive, and to me, this feels that Shadow went back to that spot after the events of Generations, and seeing Maria and not being able to save her again just really cemented the fact that he and Maria can never have a happy ending together 😭
I think I actually liked the Animatic more than the finished product. We got more Omega and Maria which is like all I wanted. “Let’s ruin their night.” God I love that robot.
Amazing how animatics and the final product can have their differences such as a young Commander being in Part 3 scrapped opening instead of part 2 along with extended scenes and scrapped dialogue from all three parts.
“I thought I’d left my past behind me. Here it is, haunting me and prompting me to act.” No joke, this is my favorite line from the whole animatic. These two sentences perfectly establish and encapsulate Shadow’s motivations for boarding the ark. Legitimately peak writing, peak voice acting!
Okay, the school scene being removed really touched me 😭😭😭 I really loved all the past scenes of Shadow on the ark in the series. I'm glad this is in game content. Too often now we get promotional products like short films that are directly linked to the lore of the game only outside of it like on UA-cam for example and not directly in the game and that is nonsense to me. At least if one day these UA-cam channels would have to go away, this amazing work of art would stay immortalised in the game itself forever. It just belongs to the game. That reminds of one of the only things that were better in Smash for Wii U compared to Smash Ultimate was the fact that the character trailers were integrated to the game, but they didn't do it even as an update for Ultimate and that is very sad given how amazing they are. SEGA did things right regarding this.
Both are good in the end but the Rouge scene wouldn't make much sense with what she says in Generation (at the start of Shadow's story, she clearly wants him to come and relax) Shadow is also acting a little out of context here because he's not the type to always smile.
This is amazing; its so sad that so many interesting interactions and moments got cut. I understand that animation takes a lot time and I am extremely grateful that they gave us such beautiful animation with the time they had, but I wish they would kept all the scenes with Omega especially the scene before they fight The Blue Falcon and Shadow smiles back at Omega. However, this animatic prologue shows that Ian Flynn is a really good writer and its make sad that some say he isn't.
