What are you using for US History? Have you tried either of these yet?

Blossom and Root hasn't released additional sections of River of Voices curriculum yet. We did finish out the Oh Freedom curriculum this fall. I really liked the more current sections (after the Civil War) of Oh Freedom, and the readings were good. I think they approached the topics in a way that made it easy to teach while still discussing potentially difficult topics.

We are looking at using River of
Voices and then moving into Oh Freedom as my kids get into later middle and high school.

We will be trying River of Voices this coming school year 22-23 with my 6th graders. I was wondering between Oh Freedom and Blossom and Root US History, which had better books? Or maybe your top three for each curriculum.

Blossom and Root has less reading overall with some video recommendations instead of reading. It’s divided up so you can choose different paths based on your learner. There is also a work page per lesson. Oh Feedom has a lot of reading, with the idea that the adult is reading to or with the child. I believe some of their books overlap. I’ve pulled from both, so it’s hard to say which has better books. We’ve really liked the one from Oh Freedom because they have both the nonfiction reference and a historical fiction or living book to go along with the lessons. My child has really liked those.

If you could only choose 1 which would you pick?

The second half of River of Voices (Blossom and Root) is not available yet, so we are only using Woke Homeschooling Oh Freedom this year. I would recommend Woke Homeschooling because it goes more into detail, and you could always skip sections if you wanted to.

Does River of Voices use living books?

Yes. They have some living books and some non-fiction informational books. I believe their book list is on the website.

@@GoodBehaviorBeginningsThanks! I can't seem to find the booklist. Which one is more open and go? (Oh Freedom or ROV)

@@user-en2lc3ou1q I think River of Voices is more open and go. Oh Freedom goes more in depth. As of this comment, River of Voices only has part 1 available, through the Bill of Rights. Part 2 isn’t ready yet, so we’ve just been using Oh Freedom for everything past 1800. Something to consider if you want to cover more recent US History.

Glad to know what to avoid.
