I don't understand what is everyone's beef with the Air Ride. The system is not that complicated. In fact it is INCREDIBLY simplistic for what it does, the parts are not expensive and it can be serviced easier than springs can. I've had 3 so far, a 93, a 96 and a 98. The 93 had a bad release valve, so as a result the car would never auto lower, but it did everything else fine and never leaked. The 96 had a bad front bag when I bought it with 98,000 miles, the dealer replaced it with one from a junkyard, I put 25,000 more miles on it until the compressor went bad, I paid 150.00 for a new one that took 15 minutes to replace, I used that opportunity to sensor lower the car, also took a whopping 10 minutes, and never had anymore problems again up to selling the car. My 98 had ZERO problems, bought it with 63,000 miles, sold it with 83,000. Worked like new. So in between 3 marks that were all daily drivers in every kind of weather, the air ride costed me one air compressor replacement.
+vendediesel I fully agree....if I were to own any one of these 80's or 90's Lincoln's I would keep the factory air bag suspension as it gives the signature Lincoln ride. I don't understand people's beef about these Ford's either as I find most of them to not know what they are talking about. They are very reliable for the most part and also IF maintained properly and repaired correctly by someone that knows what they are doing. Great story of your lincoln's by the way!!
vendediesel Agreed. I just bought a '93 with 131k miles and it had one bad rear bag. I replaced both with brand new Arnott bags and the air ride works perfectly. Easy to service, bags were a cinch to replace.
vendediesel I definitely agree except when these cars came out, it cost an arm and a leg to diagnose and repair the air suspension system. But nowadays it’s SO cheap to maintain and service! Some mechanics don’t want to work on them because they don’t know how to fix them and are lazy and don’t want to learn. Nothing rides better than a Lincoln with four wheel air ride man. When I bought my first Mark VII, there was a leak that cause all four sides to fail, and I couldn’t find a mechanic to work on it. I wound up having to buy a conversion kit from strut masters and had the springs installed. I sold the car because I didn’t like the way it rode. Never again will I swap out the air for regular struts and springs. Air ride is king.
Small correction, the Mark VIII didn't get the 4.6 motor from the Mustang Cobra, the other way around in fact. The mark viii started production in 1993 with the 4.6 and Mustangs didn't get the 4.6 till 1998
I LOVE this car and that's why I have two.....both 1995 Champagne Pearl. My only problems have been the Stereo Amp went bye bye and the the electronic display periodically will say "DOOR AJAR" and not let you read the instant mileage readout. Other than that, I have only had minor suspension repairs on both 140,000 mile cars (as the Cal Smog guy says "the engine is still new, as I use Synthetic Oil), as they are still both "Air Ride". This is the last set of cars I will ever own. At 3750 lbs., it is lighter than a Maserati Coupe by 500 lbs., and on the freeway I get 28 mpg at 70 mph. Why would I want to EVER buy a newer car, as it has most everything that even 2014 Mercedes has, and because of the Independent Rear Suspension, IT HANDLES. GREAT CAR!
This car is also 20 inches longer than the lexus and much larger on the inside with an air suspension. A much more comfortable and spacious ride. Different market.
To think that car is 18 years old and still looks and runs good. You know I'd rather have this than a newer Lincoln. Back when they knew how to build cars.
They took a 1993 viii to Bonneville after deleting very few things, like mirrors, and other little stuff they ran the Lincoln viii 184mph. Oh not to mention the great gas mileage. 30+mpg on the freeway.
If you have an extremely heavy foot, then those are spot on. My 96 LSC did about that, my 93 did 18 city, 30 highway, my 98 LSC did 17 city, 24 highway, and 19 mixed.
Oh, this reminds me how much I miss my 1998 Mark VIII. It was a wonderful car, and with aftermarket wheels and performance tires it did handle very well......until a utility truck sideswiped it last year and totaled it.
I remember in '97 seeing a black on black '97 model yr at night and seeing HID headlights for the first time.. I was like, WTF in awe..first car I ever seen with them!!!
I had the pleasure of owning a '98 Mark LSC. For a luxury car I was impressed but expected that. What surprised me how much of a performance car it was. My wife loved it,she claimed it almost drove itself. She drove it like a blue haired granny. Compared to me she ALWAYS got better MPGs. Moonroof & traction lok was the only options that mattered to me. We took long trips taking turns driving. If it wasn't for our kids in back, we could have drove non-stop. Effort less driving, & muscle to boot. I still wonder why the 3 American car makers don't make it anymore. Not all of us prefer SUVs. I'll just keep wishing. 🇺🇸
I am addicted to Mark VIII's!!!! The one in this video looks like my old "hybrid" 96 Mark VIII, except my interior was a lighter gray. Now I have a 95 in Champagne with buttercream leather interior - love it! My next car will likely be a Gen II Mark. ;)
Hey, Kyle! How about a review of the '84-92 Lincoln Mark VII (Bill Blass, if you please) and the '90-97 Town Car? These are two of my "Top 10 Favorite Cars", Thanks for your vids! I enjoy them often!
thank you so much for your videos kyle. you have the best channel on youtube and i think thats great that your devoting your time to school. thanks buddy!
@saabkyle04 you're correct, some parts were quite unreliable, but having driven both, I still prefer the Lincoln. Maybe it was just the riviera I drove that was full of rust, but I have heard others have had that problem. But you are a Buick man, and don't get me wrong, it's a solid car, I'm just more into power and presence.
I JUST GOT ONE FROM 2nd OWNER - THAT TOOK METICULOUS CARE OF IT. Pd $1200 - THAT'S RIGHT $1200.OO . AND HERE IN NEVADA IT'S WHOLE LIFE, IT IS RUST FREE -SOLID AND DRIVES LIKE IT'S NEW. *** RUNS LIKE A BOSS 302*** BAD ASS COBRA = *BEST DEAL ANYONE EVER GOT ON A CAR*
Older Fords seem to do that for some reason. It's not actually overheating, just running a bit higher than normal (hence it's pointing at the 'O' of NORMAL). My Escort used to do the same even after replacing the thermostat.
@Saabkyle, I think the main competitor wasn't Lexus or Buick, but Cadillac with the Eldorado. Both are high priced big luxury coupes. Plus I think that's the reason why they used the 32V Ford Modular, to give it comparable power to the 300 hp Northstar engine which debuted in 1993.
I see alot of GM 1990s B-Bodys with rust issues with the rockers and rear quarter panels in New York nearly daily its hard to find a rust free one up here. The rust starts around the edge of the wheel well and works its way back its a good indication to tell if the vehicle was driven in snow often.
One of the last American personal luxury coupes, which were losing sales due to other luxury imports, as well as the SUV craze going into full swing. The Oldsmobile Toronado was killed off before the Mark VIII, and the Buick Riviera and Cadillac Eldorado were killed off after. However, we do now have the Cadillac CTS Coupe available. Time will tell if luxury coupes make a comeback.
rear, its sort of like a crown vic, but i believe this 4.6 has 4 valves per cylinder instead of the 2 that the modular has. Also i think its dual over head cam. I got a 93 in dark green
Am I the only one who wishes for some manufacturers to make their old cars again? I mean, imagine being able to buy a car from 1990, but completely now, made NOW.
A first generation Saturn Vue would be cool too (my personal opinion). Those things are so underrated but considering my personal experience with a 4cyl, 5spd Vue they aren't bad at all.
One misstatement of the facts you made, Saabkyle - you stated that this engine was based on the Mustang Cobra's 4.6 DOHC. This engine in the Mark VIII predated the engine in the Mustang Cobra by three years. This engine debuted in the Mark VIII for the 1993 model year. A similar engine appeared in the Mustang Cobra for 1996. So if anything, the engine in the Cobra was based on the engine in the Lincoln, not the other way around.
Ricky Hess, I have A beautiful 1993 MKIII with all the Bell's and whistles. I am 86 years young, and am slowly deteriorating. My email a address is lestace1@aol.com. I live I Yuma, Arizona...Call.me if interested.

You missed a huge feature of this car, the air suspension that lowered the car at highway speeds to make it more aerodynamic and handle better. Can't believe you missed that!
94-98 Mustangs were able to do mid 6s to 60 and were lighter by several hundred pounds so even if GT Mustangs were only 215-225hp they were still faster and had a more firm ride than the cushy Lincoln. Anyway I still like the 97-98 Mark VIII LSC, I wouldn't mind having one in perfect condition as I'm not prepared right now to afford expensive bills xD
I have one lincoln continental mark viii but mine is a 1994 but still a beautiful car amazing driving comfort and a beautiful sound and very cool interior
I highly doubt back then people cross shopped a Mark VIII with a Mustang. Mark VIII were all about comfort and luxury and has a fairly decent backseat while Mustang has better performance, less weight to carry and more reliability (considering it had less gadgets and a more basic suspension). It all depends on your priorities
Lol I've noticed you did 3 of these cars the 1998 LSC and the 1995 you did about 2.5 years ago. Have you found any MPV's. That's something I've yet to see on your channel
Are you talking about total miles or fuel economy? Because 123k miles are great for a 17 year old car (my 2003 Vue is 110k) but that trip computer fuel economy of just 7mpg is just awful, take in mind dealer cars aren't driven like a regular car, moving a car for short trips (test drives, move the car in the dealer's lot, etc) can cheat the trip compute so mileage must improve once it's driven regularly
this doesn't have a cobra motor.. the cobra has a variant of the same motor.. in 1993 when the mark VII was introduced, the cobra still used a pushrod ohv 302. it wasn't until 1996 that the cobra was given the 4.6 liter, DOHC, modular motor. so yes the 1996 and up cobra share a similar motor, its took the tame 4.6 from the mark.
The cobra motor was tightly based on the mark viii motor, being that the mark introduced the engine 3 model years before the cobra. Not the other way around. Also the Mark VIII is not on the Mark VII platform at all. Completely different platform. The Mark VII is fox chassis like the mustang. The Mark VIII is mn-10/12 like the thunderbird.
I don't understand what is everyone's beef with the Air Ride. The system is not that complicated. I just purchased a 93 with original air suspension, how would I know if the car doesn't auto lower?
For 1995 man that thing was ADVANCED. Like it predicted the future, stood the test of time and seems good in 2012!
I've had two Mark VIII's and they're AWESOME!!! Luxurious and QUICK ride!!!
I have a 95 Mark VIII. Bought it 10 years ago. I put have put 70,000 miles on it. She just broke 200,000 miles and still going strong.
Small correction, the Mark VIII didn't get the 4.6 motor from the Mustang Cobra, the other way around in fact. The mark viii started production in 1993 with the 4.6 and Mustangs didn't get the 4.6 till 1998
no mustang got the 4.6 in 96
Yes but it was a 2v 4.6 only the Cobras in 98 got the 4v like the Mark VIII
im sorry i thought we were talking mod motors in general
Tristan Allen actually you're wrong, in 96 the mustang cobra got the DOHC 4.6..95 and prior GTs and Cobras had the pushrod 302 still.
My mistake vans1107thanks for the correction

the driver facing dash is what sold me on these
I love split-level dashboards like this. Gorgeous interior shape.
My granddad let me drive his Mark VIII - amazing!
This car is also 20 inches longer than the lexus and much larger on the inside with an air suspension. A much more comfortable and spacious ride. Different market.
I want one for the soul purpose of the modest padded glove box.. Good job Kyle this man shows the real features of the car
Beautiful interior design, didn't realise they added wood trim later.Trip comp switches make for a nice toy while driving.

Out of speed racer. The Mach 5. What a great car. I bought my 21yr old one because I wanted one of these forever. I love it.
If you have an extremely heavy foot, then those are spot on. My 96 LSC did about that, my 93 did 18 city, 30 highway, my 98 LSC did 17 city, 24 highway, and 19 mixed.
This car will be a future classic.
I had a black on black 95. This video made me miss that car so much!
My dad used to have one of these. Fast car for something so big.
my cousin had a '93. such a nice car
this has an awesome sound system. im buying one this summer
Oh, this reminds me how much I miss my 1998 Mark VIII. It was a wonderful car, and with aftermarket wheels and performance tires it did handle very well......until a utility truck sideswiped it last year and totaled it.
always reminded me of a UFO
My son calls it a "moon car", lol.
True
Kyle don't forget the main competitor to the Lincoln was the Cadillac Eldorado. The Eldorado's were very high quality, luxurious, quick cars.
I would love to see a Lincoln Mark IV and Mark V at some point. Those cars were the iconic American luxury cars of the 1970's.
I always liked that "tire" bump in the trunk lid that Lincoln did on many of their cars, looks classy even on 90s cars.
The best car I ever had. I regret every day that I got rid of this car!!!
I remember in '97 seeing a black on black '97 model yr at night and seeing HID headlights for the first time.. I was like, WTF in awe..first car I ever seen with them!!!

AND HERE IN NEVADA IT'S WHOLE LIFE, IT IS RUST FREE -SOLID AND DRIVES LIKE IT'S NEW.
*** RUNS LIKE A BOSS 302***
BAD ASS COBRA = *BEST DEAL ANYONE EVER GOT ON A CAR*
THANK YOU FINALLY, I’ve been looking ALL DAY
Had a 95 just like it , best car ive ever owned :)
Robert Trevino was it reliable enough for a daily?
Older Fords seem to do that for some reason. It's not actually overheating, just running a bit higher than normal (hence it's pointing at the 'O' of NORMAL). My Escort used to do the same even after replacing the thermostat.

love these early and mid 90's cars that you do
Always liked the Marks. I'd take this over the new American crap built today, 4.6s are bulletproof.
I see alot of GM 1990s B-Bodys with rust issues with the rockers and rear quarter panels in New York nearly daily its hard to find a rust free one up here. The rust starts around the edge of the wheel well and works its way back its a good indication to tell if the vehicle was driven in snow often.
Love these cars, I understand people who think they are ugly, but I think they are so cool. Want one :D
My dad owns a red Mark VIII :D I love the design of it and its power. lol
I love all cars from this era, japanese & American were especially good
Buying a 1994 Mark VIII tomorrow! Same colour but with a creme leather interior!
One of the last American personal luxury coupes, which were losing sales due to other luxury imports, as well as the SUV craze going into full swing. Yes, it shared the same platform as the Ford Thunderbird at the time.
At first I was like: "Meh... 1995 old stuff" but after seeing that 4.6l V8 under the bonnet, I had to respect it
Am I the only one who wishes for some manufacturers to make their old cars again? I mean, imagine being able to buy a car from 1990, but completely now, made NOW.
Very Nice Car !!! Very Nice !!!!
Very slick looking coupe.
I would honestly love to see Lincoln re-enter the Luxury Coupe market again...
A first generation Saturn Vue would be cool too (my personal opinion). Those things are so underrated but considering my personal experience with a 4cyl, 5spd Vue they aren't bad at all.
Don't worry about the uploading, great vid as always Kyle!
YES! Always liked how these looked.
Oh, gosh..... Leave Kyle alone! He does a better job, than some of those idiots on Cars.com Great review Kyle!
A true american SPACESHIP! Perhaps one of the last exponents of the luxurious and made-to-be-seen american past cars!
Absolutely amazing vehicle!
does it come with a grey poupon holder in the glovebox?
Great vid always Kyle! Don't worry about the uploading!
Ive heard that when they introduce the mark viii back then, it was gonna come with power slide down doors. Similar to the rare bmw z1.
One misstatement of the facts you made, Saabkyle - you stated that this engine was based on the Mustang Cobra's 4.6 DOHC. ONE OF MY FAVORITE CARS EVERRRRRRRRR!!!
I WANT THIS LINCOLN HAVE CASH WILL TRAVEL TO PICK IT UP.I LOVE THESE 2 DOOR LINCOLNS.

Ricky, have 1993 Mark8 with 94k on it and it is in excellent condition! I am 86 yrs.of age and very seldom drive it. The local Ford dealer wants it, but he too cheap! I run him out of yard with my pitch fork!!
You missed a huge feature of this car, the air suspension that lowered the car at highway speeds to make it more aerodynamic and handle better. Can't believe you missed that!
hahaha, yea trust me it is expensive but it is an amazing ride i tell you simply amazing.
Lincoln should make a modern incarnation of this car!
the 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII was assembled in
Wixom, Michigan, USA
Beautiful
@saabkyle04 true, very true. I do live in Syracuse New York, so snow and salt surely speed up the rusting process.
Way better than the 99 Marquis my family had
I love this Car Love the Style of it and the interior lay out and great power plant just overall a great car
94-98 Mustangs were able to do mid 6s to 60 and were lighter by several hundred pounds so even if GT Mustangs were only 215-225hp they were still faster and had a more firm ride than the cushy Lincoln.
Anyway I still like the 97-98 Mark VIII LSC, I wouldn't mind having one in perfect condition as I'm not prepared right now to afford expensive bills xD
love the 1998 LSC models but i was really hoping u would do this one!
My 95’ was a great car but make sure you can get parts before you buy. Headlights are no longer available and the air ride is very expensive to fix.
looks like it was running quite a bit hot before you shut it off... broken fan or radiator hose perhaps?!
thats how my ford tempo is it goes up and down but never overheats
I think the 97-98 ones look a lot better. Ironically the most prominent updates were on the headlights and tailights
I have one lincoln continental mark viii but mine is a 1994 but still a beautiful car amazing driving comfort and a beautiful sound and very cool interior

This car looks like it could break the sound barrier
the transmission on the 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
Transmission
4-speed automatic
Are you talking about total miles or fuel economy?
Because 123k miles are great for a 17 year old car (my 2003 Vue is 110k) but that trip computer fuel economy of just 7mpg is just awful, take in mind dealer cars aren't driven like a regular car, moving a car for short trips (test drives, move the car in the dealer's lot, etc) can cheat the trip compute so mileage must improve once it's driven regularly
what a great machine that is !!!!!!!!!!
I'm so in love I want one
Get one! I've had two and will definitely get another!
Like that sound!
Not to sound rude at all Kyle, but the temp gauge seemed to be a little higher than it should be.
i would say this is more a competitor to the Eldorado then the Riviera
Is it mandatory in the US for cars to have the chimes eg door chime, seatbelt chime?
I'm in Australia, and I have never been in a car that chimes!
Hell yes Mr Kyle
these are some quick power windows!
kyle maby you need a head ram memory.kidddingggggg.
this doesn't have a cobra motor.. the cobra has a variant of the same motor.. in 1993 when the mark VII was introduced, the cobra still used a pushrod ohv 302. it wasn't until 1996 that the cobra was given the 4.6 liter, DOHC, modular motor. so yes the 1996 and up cobra share a similar motor, its took the tame 4.6 from the mark.
spray a generous amount of PB's Blaster into your driver's side door latch, and that will fix that.
can you do a video on an Oldsmobile intriuge 2001-2003??
Had one just like it. I miss it.
That is a surprisingly cool car
