@@kevinphoenix2007 Odin grew more desperate and ruthless to the point of killing his own kin. Odin doesn’t give a damn about how many people he’ll have to sacrifice to get what he wants.
Thor was such an amazing character. Ridden with anger and hate over his dead children, but with enough sense to be able to see flashes that his enemies are not who Odin paints them to be. Conflicted between vengeance and morality, Thor makes for an amazing villain, one that I wish had more of a redemption.
His parallels with Kratos were amazing to see. I think the only difference with him was that he never had the wake up call to be better until his sons died. He realized how much he loved them, and just how terrible he was as a father. If he were different, then maybe they’d still be alive. It appears that his journey for redemption only started in the few years since their deaths.
@@sharkfrenzy213 Thor literally told Atreus he enjoyed killing the rest of his people (the giants) while they were on a mission. Did Odin manipulate him? Yes, but earlier Thor had the capacity to think for himself enough to realize that he needed to stop drinking for the sake of his family. He still had control over his actions and he chose to do evil. He was still a villain up until this part.
@@sharkfrenzy213 Well looking at his actions throughout the games, he definitely IS a villain and an antagonist. However, he is a redeemed villain. Odin is the real villain of this game
When you realize Thor is basically kratos if he didn't go against Zeus Edit: for those who are saying that he's not like kratos, Thor whipped out the entire giant race who are also his own kind just like kratos who killed the entire Greece including humans ,titans and gods
"Don't you know what I've done?" "Yes! But what will you do now?" Love this! Kratos sees in Thor a younger version of himself. He tries to save him, give him a chance Kratos almost didn't get, he knows that everyone deserves the chance to atone.
@@Jeremiah_D. I don't see it that way, to me, Baldur was who Atreus could've turned into. He was the representation of the the cycle of vengeance and family murdering that plagues all the gods. The whole point of GOW 1 (2018) was showing Atreus that even though they're God's, they have to be better than what their baser instincts lead them to do. If Atreus had never been told the truth by Kratos, that he was a God, that his father killed his father etc. He would've grown to resent/ hate his dad much like Baldur did Freya for being ridiculously overprotective. Kratos chooses to tell Atreus the truth because what he thought was protecting the boy, was actually harming and alienating.
@@iannoome1898 from what i can tell, both thor and baldur represented both atreus and kratos. Baldur represented the cycle that kratos delt with in the greek pantheon, while also representing what would happen to atreus if not told the truth. Thor represented the monster that kratos became in his past, while representing what would happen to Atreus if he never tried to obtain independence from his father (albeit to an amplified degree)
Thats exactly what i thought before the game release. There were released scenes of the first fight and i thought that that was how it was gonna play out.
fr, Thor did not get what he deserved. He should have been more. Kratos does not struggle against him in the 2nd fight at all. He gets defeated easily, and then gets an underwhelming death
i agree with you but they both could've killed eachother in fact thor pretty much killed kratos in first fight and revived him and even if it was just knock out as some people say (majority think it was kill) but even if it was knocked out he could've finished him there and now but he revived him and let him get up cus he was just buying time for odin wasnt allowed to kill him but i think he accidentaly did xD either way why im saying all of this is because they both kind of spared eachother in the end and its sad to see thor go like that cus i think they would be good friends and very powerfull duo if they ended up uniting thats only sad thing for me in the game thor was really well made in this game from design to voice to character to power just perfect i wish he didnt have to die but it was meant to happen .. in ragnarok they both are supposed to die him and odin one way or another
@@deadlyaim465 I don't remember Thor killed Kratos, it was more like he knocked him out. but yeah he could've killed him while Kratos is unconscious. I would love to see Kratos climb his way back from Helheim.
@@deadlyaim465 well, i don't think so, Thor was not capable of killing Kratos, you must remember that kratos was holding back the whole time when they fought for the first time, that's why Thor could knocked him out easily. But when Thor mentioned about Odin having plans for Atreus, then kratos got angry and serious, he then gave Thor a punch that broke his jaw and at that moment, Thor knew that Kratos was a real deal, then Thor left. In the second fight, you can see that Thor at his full strength couldn't even hurt Kratos that wasn't angered, that shows how big the difference in strength is between Kratos and Thor.
@@mrsapu5110 no not really thor could've easly killed him (he already did) and let him live while he wasnt even powered up and was playing around since odin told him NOT TO KILL HIM now thats clearly showing you the difference between both ... second fight thor was already powered up fighting the serpent and the same second he knocked it back in time he came to kratos in same scene and still put up a good fight whatever kratos did to him he took it like he said "i can take it" hes just a tank not to mention his mental state in second fight or that he was 90% poisoned already too and kratos still couldnt kill him both could've killed eachother but both decided not to thor in first fight kratos in second kind of so lets not be talkin non sense and only facts its ok to like a character but ignoring facts is not ok for me in my book they are 1-1 and clearly equal did i mentioned thor cannot heal? kratos can and thor still did not give a shit after all those stabs and cuts from 3 different weapons kratos gave him idk how people can ignore like that the might of thor :D i like kratos but .. some things are just exagerated by a long shot
I think my favorite thing about this fight is how HEAVY each blow is. Like every attack you do against Thor his body reacts to in some way as if you're the only thing in the nine relms that can even get the man to feel it. While EVERY hit Thor lands on Kratos not only takes a large chunk out of your health but throws you around like you were made of fluff. Nothing in the game makes Kratos react with pain as much as Thor's hammer, and nothing but your hits can even cause the God of Thunder to flinch. It's what ups the spectacal for me in this moment.
My favourite animation in the whole game is Kratos’ ragdoll spin every time he gets clobbered by Mjolnir. It’s just… we’ve seen the stuff he’s capable of, so how strong is something that can do THAT to him?
@@TimmyStreams I mean, Mjiolnir is described as really heavy in myths, and Thor is as strong if not stronger than Kratos (that’s a hot take of mine, definitely up for debate)
There are many differences between Thor and his brother Baldur. Baldur fought wildly, his motivation to inflict pain. Thor is calmer - his bloodlust is for the fight itself, not for the suffering it inflicts. The full force of his attack is as heavy as any I have felt. The Hammer, Mjölnir, only compounds his power... each blow echoes with the death and destruction they have wrought together. He chose to end our fight prematurely. It is good for both of us that it did not reach its conclusion. - Kratos
I don't believe this indicates that Kratos would have lost (as we can clearly see), but it likely would have restarted the cycle of vengeance with Thors daughter (and Sif). Atreaus may have been upset too.
Odin: *Stabs Thor through the chest without warning* Also Odin: THIS IS ALL THEIR FAULT! THEY DID THIS TO US! Sounds like some people in real life, that I’ve known. Cause unbelievable amounts of damage and it’s always everyone else’s fault.
He’s not capable of empathy. Odin sees Thor the same way we see a screwdriver in our hand: just a tool to get the job done. everyone is there to serve his purpose.
Yeah that really does sound like old Kratos' grunt, imagine if you could play these games with that voice, not denying the current VA's abilities but it would be a fun addition to choose between a Modern or 'Classic' voice type
@@arekmg0003 he has slaughtered thousands possibly millions in Odin's quest for control of his fate and knowledge. Odin essentially used Thor like the gods of Olympus used Kratos before he started killing them.
It's sad that the moment he gains clarity and freedom from Odin's control, he is stabbed dead for it... he never got to grow older and become wiser like Kratos. Couldn't show his love properly to his wife and daughter.... Odin was the true Destroyer. He broke everything that came near him, for the sake of his ambitions.
Yes but if look close how his whole body was covered in lightning, den after stab only around hand , nd to ground....maybe Thor felt defeated when kratos knocked hammer out of his hand...otherwise he could had pulled knife out.
Thor was one of the characters I loved the most in this game. Sad that he didn't have a second chance like Kratos, but there can't be a happy ending for everyone. The writing in this game was just superb.
@@blissshastings1818 I'm not sure since surtr, or should I say Ragnarok destroyed Asgard, which would include Valhalla. Another possibility (And this one I'd like to believe) Thor's parts of his soul could be retrieved from the lake of souls, something like Sindri did with Brok.
The writing is absolutely disgusting. Thor whacked Jormungandr back before birth, and everyone saw it. Yet the devs didn't think to have Thor do the same thing to Kratos. It's almost as if they don't want to acknowledge Kratos getting clipped.
Tbh I have to wonder if they inputted that dialogue before or after the incident. I wanna believe before but it probably would have been a quick thing to place into the fight
Yea I agree this last fight ended as soon as it was getting good, super disappointing but still not bad. My mind over hyped it from the beginning of the game with that first Thor fight so I was expecting the next to be chaos.
It would have been nice to be launched all over the village during the fight, but i felt pretty satisfied by the end of the battle, it made sense why the baldur fight went crazy and that was because the game was generally a calmer story, this one was more grand and thus this fight wouldnt need flashy arena changes.
@@CBRN-115 Baldurs fights had better backgrounds and things going on around the fight but the combat and emotion/character is better in Thor fights. In baldurs fights Kratos was just beating up on an invulnerable guy while Kratos and Thor go toe to toe and their fights are super intense
6:32 Thor: Don't you know... what I've done?! Thor, you're talking to a man who's gone through so much shit and sacrificed almost everything for his only son.
that Kratos and Thor are similar in the same. And that's why. Kratos was killed and sacrificed a lot of lives in order to achieve his own goal. And he regretted all his mistakes and horrible actions Thor was manipulated by his father. Odin made him commit countless crimes such as killing innocent people and especially giants and facing Faye. These actions may not matter to him or care about what he did to people. But from within he is broken and regrets all those heinous crimes and incidents.
"We must be better" The same last words Kratos said to both Baldur and Thor to end their final fights. One was to save a parent from their child while the other was to save a parent for the sake of their children
5:43 Kratos really just ate the hammer to the face showing how bloody tough he is. It's also a nice call back to their first fight You can also see how as they're trading blows, Kratos is actually pushing Thor back, eventually causing Mjolnir to slip out of Thor's hands completely.. another subtle hint of their strength levels. I also noticed that if you slow down the vid at 0:33, you can see that kratos legit knocks thor out cold on the second punch as shown by Thors body going completely limp, and kratos having to pull thor back towards him In saying this tho, I absolutely love Thor as a character and wish we saw more of him.
That's the younger one that Atreus revive during Ironwood adventure, right? if so , the older one(the one that we interact with during 2018) still remains.
@@complete.180 yes that's the young one also when kratos saw him kratos said "he looks different "because the young one is still small compare to the old one and even mimir was surprised because he saw him in midgard but how suddenly he's here in war with thor out of nowhere
5:36 “RAH!” Literally young kratos. Anyway I think this scene is very impressive, the way Kratos looks at Thor and sees the sadness in his eyes, he saw what he saw in his younger self, the tiredness of being controlled. By your own. Father. That’s why he stops Thor, that’s why he says “no more… no more..” he wanted to help Thor. That’s why I was so sad when he died because he could’ve became such a good character and maybe would’ve even made the storyline different by helping, he could’ve been better..
Kratos is extremely strong. Stronger than i ever imagined. Easily resisting the hammers attacks and then lifting it with the blades . In the first fight he was holding back a lot . Although there are certain places where the game feels rushed. They could have easily made it a trilogy. I am very happy to see kratos beating the Norse gods to a pulp
@@kylereese5841 you're right, I should have been more clear. Thor would still die, just after after they teamed up and then Atreus and Freya would join like it's shown.
Such a good scene. Thor, a man not unlike Kratos in many ways. I am happy they went this route although i wish he didn't die. Thor tried to do right by his family but Odin had him blinded too much. A conflicted man.
Man. I have literally never played a single GoW game, I basically know the story through lore recap videos and I watched most of the cutscenes for this one and the last one, yet it still doesn't fail to make me feel emotional. Crazy emotional. Thor, the entire game seems to be just a shell of himself, a slave to Odin, who himself is a slave to the fact that he can't know everything. They're all puppets controlled by something higher, their fates are sealed -- or at least they think that's so. Thor is a god, he is immensely powerful, a brute, a destroyer, as he calls himself. I feel for him so much because once you're so deep in this caricature of an identity, you feel like that's all you amount to. There's no way you can be a different person, be better, change. Its even a little bit comforting for you to let yourself stagnate and only stick to the character you know for so long. You're stuck in this rabbit hole and it seems like you can't climb out of it, especially if the people around you validate and affirm this caricature of yourself more than who you actually want to be. Then he meets Kratos. Much like Thor, he was brutal, driven by anger, madness, short-sighted and most of all, blind to what he actually wanted -- peace. He achieved this peace through rage and violence, but it was empty. The real Kratos, deep inside wanted to atone, he knew this anger was false, but he's the God of War -- he has to remain that way, right? No more. He says no more. For the sake of his children, for the sake of innocent people, for the sake of the world, no more. Kratos shows that you can defy the fate or path that people force yourself into. He instills within Atreus the duty to be responsible, to treat immeasurable power with great respect. And he knows more than anyone in the Nine Realms how Thor feels. How stuck he is on his path, how the self-pity and anger fuel him. The denial. He's the first to empathize with Thor. He shows him kindness because he relates, and the fact that this goes through to Thor struck me so hard. Its not about what you've done, who you've hurt, what mistakes you've made, its about how you can grow and continue to be better and atone through not just words and emotions, but most of all through action. A man sees himself in another man and chooses to help the other right their wrongs. To remind us that we can always make a change, we can always be better, we can always be good, we can always break the cycle. We can easily stagnate, we can easily be evil, but to choose to be good in a world full of evils is true strength. That's what Kratos represents and it was so powerful seeing his journey even as a spectator, not a player. What a compelling and touching narrative.
I really like Thor as a character. The guy is full of anger but still listens. He isnt some guy that would use that chance to try kill kratos. He cares for his children and has the courage to go against odin even though he is his father. My favorite character in Ragnarok honestly
He's still weaker. Remember thr R3 kill on those water lizard thingy? He tries to snap their jaws but can't.. so Freya/aureus shoots them with an arrow before they both stab it in the head. And I believe there's a dragon like creature killed the same way..where the blades are jabbed in the jaw and other on snout to rip it apart..but he can't. Meanwhile in the PS3 days...he'd kill something larger than ragnarok beast easily.
Goddamn, Thor put up one heck of a fight. Its also a testament to just how strong Kratos is since at no point in this fight is he trying to kill Thor, just tire him out so he can see reason. Anyone who says that Kratos is a weak old man in the Norse games is missing the point: Kratos is holding back most of his power because he doesn't want to be the god killer he used to be.
Exactly. I couldn’t agree more. And here, Thor is actively going all out and trying to kill Kratos. It’s scary. Kratos is stronger now than he ever was back in his Greece days, and he’s still not going all out.
@bluehawk56 Hey nice troll, you actually triggered me with that. With such achievement you will be the greatest troll on the Internet and make your parent proud, clap clap 👏👏
Kratos fighting Thor felt like if we was fighting his younger more sadistic version. The one who was fooled by the Gods and use by them as a tool, as Thor is used by Odin. Kratos at the end won not because he was stronger but because he was wiser, he had completed his redemption arch, he got better and understood that revenge it’s not the path, he finally decide his destiny, that’s why he won. Thor at the end started to see it that way, but then he was killed by his father. It’s actually poetic, Kratos won not because of strength, he won because of love.
The craziest thing to me about kratos’ redemption ark is that he always despised who he was. He hated being the ruthless god killing, ghost of Sparta, god of war that he was. But throughout the entire game u see his reserve throughout fights, him telling stories about his homeland, and making new friends along the way. Something that was almost unthinkable for him in the first game. Then when he was named general for the assault on Asgard, it still haunted him, but he took the role and was the best damn general because he was fighting not for vengeance, but for justice. Long story short, kratos became tyr. A god of war who fights only for peace
Because it was: Thor is essentially a younger Kratos: A destroyer renowned by the damage and suffering he caused in his path, a slave to his pantheon. If we consider that Thor is Kratos if he stayed loyal to the Olympians, Kratos defeating Thor is Kratos overcoming his past.
Thor is really tired from everything and you can see it in his eyes and when in the final fight he says "I'm done with you and your son" he really means it Another little detail I like is when Thor says "Sif was right about you. I just didn't want to see it" Odin is shocked and goes a little back. He's like WTF?!
I honestly think people don't understand this version of Thor isn't the strongest version we see in the game. The Thor at the beginning is the strongest. He is focused, sober, in sync with his remaining family, and his anger and strength are harnessed and pointed at Kratos like a fine blade. At this point in the game he is unfocused erratic undisciplined and out of sync with the people he cares for. I think this was on purpose because Kratos does the reverse. By the time we see this fight with Thor Kratos is at his absolute best self. He knows what he needs to do.
@@thedude8526 yeah but still it all depends on the award but I still think God of War has a chance and yeah elden ring too as for Horizon Forbidden West could be nominated but they might not win the award thats my predictions for now but its a hard to tell who will win cause I have already got the platinum trophy for horizon and elden ring my god of war platinum is on its way.
What I love about this fight is that the player actually takes a few hits here and there while matching Thor move for move. It gives a sense of realism to it.
@@bigpig2709 He almost knocked out Thor in two punches while before several weren't making him budge and took a mouthful of Mjolnir and was only stunned while before he literally got killed. This shows that he wasn't fucking around anymore.
@@bigpig2709 They made Kratos wack I mean like who the hell doesn't want to see him tear these gods apart? I get that he left his past self behind but it would've been sick if Kratos exploded. Hopefully they're still saving a moment like this in future GOW games.
The thing about this fight is it puts into perspective how powerful both Kratos and Thor are in their own right. Thor withstood all 3 of Kratos' legendary weapons fully hitting him and wounding which is absolutely awesome. It demonstrates how much of a behemoth Thor actually is when he continues fighting as if it were nothing and makes it more believable that this is the guy that wiped out the giants. Kratos on the other hand withstood full blows from Mjolnir point blank. Literally, gets struck straight across the face with it and is still standing. In norse mythology, there is a story in which Thor strikes a giant 3 times in the head with Mjolnir which is later revealed to have leveled 3 separate mountains. The fact alone that Kratos can withstand that strike is ,in its own sense, is awesome.
Thinking back on this after seeing Thor fleshed out. I think his first meeting wasn't about getting Kratos to show his true self, as Kratos wasnt holding back his power, but his bloodlust/relentless. Kratos was slowly trying to avoid being a destroyer. I think Thor, wanted Kratos as living proof that, how he(Thor) was is who he always will be. That even if they tried, they will never change. Like "There's nothing wrong with me." Now, Thor who has been fighting endlessly, and possibly poisoned by Jorm is getting weak in strength, and exhausted. All he's ever had was his unmatched brute power. Now that he's finally took a true L. Words can get past his big bellied armored ass, and have meaning. Poor Thor.
@@zantaazapre2659 Already had this talk with another, but I'll list some things keep in mind GoW isnt a spoon feeding game you pick up info from context and other events 1. Etir Jorm's poison is in the leviathan axe. It's what stops Magni from reviving, and stops Thor's wound from the beginning of the game from ever healing up. Which was gained from Jorm spitting the axe out. Which is subtly told to you the player with "Etir imbued". Mimir wasn't with you so he never seen it happen, and it is referenced "Magni never came back? Why is that?" Mimir has no explanation. 2. In the prophecy it says Thor sends jorm back in time, and it turns out he was poisoned by jorm and dies, we seen he send Jorm back in time, so we can only assume that it happened as such. 3. Jorm is spoken about to be = to Thor, to say Jorm didnt bite Jorm, or didn't poison him would downplay Jorm which doesn't make sense . This is a fight that both Jorm, and Thor are meant to lose in some way. You cant imply Thor just hard bodied Jorm. Finally if we're play from Kratos POV how are we gonna know Thor actually was poisoned if there was nobody there to witness the fight, only the result. As well as, I did say POSSIBLY poisoned, cause as you said there's nothing to say it, but just going off of what we have been told, and from what's shown. I very much do believe it.
@@hightierscrub7166 again these are all assumptions, until the devs actually confirm that Thor was indeed poisoned we can’t say for sure,Then again if he was poisoned wouldn’t he throw a hint or two in his missions with Atreus
@@zantaazapre2659 I dont think the poison from the axe is as strong as Jorm's and would have a serious effect. But the wound in his stomach never healing is a big hint especially since Gods have shown they can heal cuts/bruises like that easily. Magni never coming back was also due to the poison. But again, nobody has/had to say it. You just have to go off what was already stated. Thor = Jorm Their battle = stalemate Jorm back in time, Thor is poisoned. Maybe if Odin didnt kill him we would've seen him succumb later on. But, I refuse to believe that Thor just hard bodies Jorm and jorm cant even so much as bite Thor's fat ass.
A big far cry to the Kratos of the Greek Era who was a psychopathic man child who would kill and destroy everything in his path. Norse Era Kratos has really grown into a better man and a hero to all of Midgard and the Nine Realms.
He wouldn't kill and destroy everything in his path. Young Kratos was rage filled sure but he capable of reasoning. He ignored other people as long as they don't stand in his way. But greek being greek would rather step on his feet.
I like how you see Kratos try taking thors hammer multiple times because previously he’s always taken the gods weapons and ability’s and killed them with it
Vulnerable? He is supposedly constantly holding back for no good reason other than "plot" and/or contrived characterization. Meaning that he could potentially win if he went all out. And that's makes Kratos boring because there are no stakes.
@@pickyricky6226 stakes were pretty real, Thor sent a thousand tonne beast back in time with his hammer, this is a whole another level of feat, imagine what could have happened if he hit Surtr, Kratos wasn't holding back on his strength, he was just holding back the intent to kill him. Thor himself was depressed and no longer that person who enjoyed fights. We can say that they both were not fighting at their 100%.
@@arshpuri That's sort of the idea I'm going with. I just don't know why Kratos wasn't bloodied and/or tired at the end and then immediately went to fight Odin. It's all about portrayal.
@@arshpuri technically, he was still holding back on his strength as it’s fueled by his rage. So holding back that intent would still be holding back on his raw power. Thor himself stated he was fighting a lesser version of Kratos, He was actively trying to stop the fight as he was in it.
6:00 At that moment, Kratos became the god of peace. If he brutally killed Thor, then he would've still been the cold God of War and the norms would've proved their point about him anyway
I just realised at 5:54 Thor was clicking his fingers to call Mjolnir but Kratos pins his hand to the floor to stop him clicking. The first time we saw Thor I noticed that he clicks his left hand to call Mjolnir, so I was wondering if at the end Kratos would break Thor's fingers to stop him clicking them and calling the hammer.
It's not a loop guys, but it is infinite Jormungandrs and timelines. The old Jormungandr tells Loki to go to Ironwood to create him, because if he didn't tell him, he wouldn't exist ( time paradox). By telling him to create him, there exist 2 Jormungandrs in a period of time between the creation of the young one and it being sent back in time: The old Jormungandr who tells you to create him ( the one in Midgard with a beard) and the young one (without a beard) who fights thor while the old one is in midgard . After the young one gets sent back in time, the old Jormungandr is still there chilling, only he remains, BUT the young jormungandr who gets sent back in time, grows old to eventually encounter Kratos and Loki, recognizing them and Loki as his creator. He then later on in ragnarok tells him to create him,(cause otherwise he wouldn't exist) but by telling him to create him, he also creates a new Jormungandr, that goes on to be sent back in time and do the exact same thing. It's not a loop, just infinite Jormungandrs and infinite timelines. Either that, or an infinitely looping single timeline, which Jormungandr is not "stuck in", it's just that his life and moment in time wasn't as linear as other's
Now i understand this whole purpose of why kratos didn't die But the fact that people change and not seem predictable is actually a cool twist i just didn't get it on my first play through
I just noticed that Kratos stabs Faye's Knife into Thor's hand before he talks Thor down. Ultimately it was Faye's influence on Kratos that had him ending the fight before he had to kill again.
When Kratos saw Thor hit Jorumgandr that hard he said "This fight is mine" Kratos knew he was the only one who could fight Thor and he might die doing so.
It's crazy how much detail there is. If you play the scene of kratos being hit 0:31 you see Thor going for a headshot, Kratos catches the hammer and takes off which is why Thor holds his head against it.
Man I grew up with the OG GoW games and seeing how Kratos has developed and finally made peace with his past and resolved to be better in the future.. this game is a masterpiece idc what anyone says it was game of the year.
6:56 while I haven’t played the game and just watched thor and Kratos fight, I enjoy this line. It’s like Thor found an equal, a brother in a sense. Someone who destroyed things as he did; the only difference was that Kratos killed his father and learned. Thor seemed like a tool from the tiny bit I saw, with no honest independent thoughts. He appeared very submissive; he didn’t talk to Kratos until Odin showed up, then when he finally got the chance to fight Kratos, he was more lively. Thor didn’t believe he could change, he assumed he will stay a destroyer for all the things he’s done and he found someone who could have the same burden.
I think in his first fight against Kratos, an equal destroyer he did his best to bring it out of Kratos to prove that they can not change, and it will be who they are. Used Kratos as an example to tell himself that "There's nothing wrong with him." Though Kratos had Faye who steered him away, Thor had Sif who somewhat encouraged/shared his anger
@@superboyx2837 Not really. What Sif truly wanted is for Thor to see that Odin is the real enemy. But Thor was so desperate for a pat in the head from Odin that he misinterpreted Sif's words.
@@canyonfall1323 if it follows the myths mjolnir isn’t necessarily “heavy” more just really really powerful, that not many people can wield it. As we can see kraits struggles to handle its power. Odin is much more powerful than Thor so maybe that is why it is easy for him.
@@JD-xm4uf According to the Edda from Sturluson, Thor got 3 "magical things". Mjolnir, Megingiard (a belt which doubles his aesir strength) and Jarnglofar (which are some kind of gauntlets necessary to wield Mjolnir). But it looks like he has no special belt or gauntlets.
One of the things I love about thor that not a lot of people see is that after Thor changes, we no longer see his face. Because in that moment his whole identity changed to something unknown to him until kratos's words affected him deep within: *Knowing that Kratos knows exactly what he's going through* And when he listens to Odin in his past mindset, we see him and his face as Thor: the giant killer.
Villain is a strong word for how Thor was in this game he was really a victim of his father and treated like an attack dog instead of a son
@@sharkfrenzy213 Thor literally told Atreus he enjoyed killing the rest of his people (the giants) while they were on a mission. Did Odin manipulate him? I feel like Baldur was the younger Kratos, and Thor is what Kratos could have been, the parallels are so good either eay regardless
Baldur represented the cycle that kratos delt with in the greek pantheon, while also representing what would happen to atreus if not told the truth.

because Thor is not a enemy but a victim
Their size and weight difference could also have something to do with what you said.
@@TimmyStreams I mean, Mjiolnir is described as really heavy in myths, and Thor is as strong if not stronger than Kratos (that’s a hot take of mine, definitely up for debate)
They're Gods of War for a reason. Look at Ares and Hachiman
Love that in the first game the axe is imbued with eiter (the venom) that is deadly to thor

Exactly. I couldn’t agree more. And here, Thor is actively going all out and trying to kill Kratos. It’s scary. Kratos is stronger now than he ever was back in his Greece days, and he’s still not going all out.
Its a Testament to plot armor yeah
@bluehawk56 Hey nice troll, you actually triggered me with that. With such achievement you will be the greatest troll on the Internet and make your parent proud, clap clap 👏👏
what kind of excuse is plot armor? Literally every character has plot armor. Thor also had plot armor by that logic
@bluehawk56 how is he weak?

@@septiarizqyrenaldi2038 thor didn't surrender, kratos made him like that 😂😂
Baseball Dads settling their differences behind the middle school parking lot (EMOTIONAL)
Yep, exactly
It crazy how much that fits
Kratos fighting Thor felt like if we was fighting his younger more sadistic version. The one who was fooled by the Gods and use by them as a tool, as Thor is used by Odin.
Kratos at the end won not because he was stronger but because he was wiser, he had completed his redemption arch, he got better and understood that revenge it’s not the path, he finally decide his destiny, that’s why he won. Thor at the end started to see it that way, but then he was killed by his father.
It’s actually poetic, Kratos won not because of strength, he won because of love.
That and had he wanted too, he was significantly stronger.
But yeah his development was great too.
Thor is really tired from everything and you can see it in his eyes and when in the final fight he says "I'm done with you and your son" he really means it
Another little detail I like is when Thor says "Sif was right about you. I just didn't want to see it" Odin is shocked and goes a little back. He's like WTF?!
Really I thought he was joking thanks for that
He kinda brought it on himself
@@brianpope7912 Yes he did
I honestly think people don't understand this version of Thor isn't the strongest version we see in the game.

Like "There's nothing wrong with me."
Now, Thor who has been fighting endlessly, and possibly poisoned by Jorm is getting weak in strength, and exhausted. All he's ever had was his unmatched brute power. Now that he's finally took a true L. Words can get past his big bellied armored ass, and have meaning. Poor Thor.
There’s not one single indication in the game that shows Thor is poisoned
@@zantaazapre2659 Already had this talk with another, but I'll list some things
keep in mind GoW isnt a spoon feeding game you pick up info from context and other events
1. Why is that?"
Mimir has no explanation.
@@hightierscrub7166 in game lore is different than irl mythology as we can clearly tell
Thor = Jorm
Their battle = stalemate
Jorm back in time, Thor is poisoned.
Maybe if Odin didnt kill him we would've seen him succumb later on. But, I refuse to believe that Thor just hard bodies Jorm and jorm cant even so much as bite Thor's fat ass.
"Don't you know... what I've done?!"
"YES! But what will you do know?"

A big far cry to the Kratos of the Greek Era who was a psychopathic man child who would kill and destroy everything in his path. Norse Era Kratos has really grown into a better man and a hero to all of Midgard and the Nine Realms.

Thor was an Actual challenge for Kratos. I loved that. Been a while since I've felt vulnerable as playing Kratos.

@@arshpuri technically, he was still holding back on his strength as it’s fueled by his rage. So holding back that intent would still be holding back on his raw power. Thor himself stated he was fighting a lesser version of Kratos, He was actively trying to stop the fight as he was in it.
@@bigg221 You gotta keep in mind, it's pretty obvious this is a lesser version of Thor as well.

Used Kratos as an example to tell himself that "There's nothing wrong with him."
Though Kratos had Faye who steered him away, Thor had Sif who somewhat encouraged/shared his anger

Thor: I will kill you this time

One of the things I love about thor that not a lot of people see is that after Thor changes, we no longer see his face. Because in that moment his whole identity changed to something unknown to him until kratos's words affected him deep within: *Knowing that Kratos knows exactly what he's going through*
And when he listens to Odin in his past mindset, we see him and his face as Thor: the giant killer. But after turning back to Odin and putting his hammer down, he was just... *Thor*
