Only 15 minutes into the video and I’m shook at how much you can convey from the photo by just placing tone. Already know the finished product gonna look so beautiful
Dear professor lieu this channel is such an inspiration, I was having a tough time trying to find inspiration to draw. This delicious looking cookies and the wonderful company this video offers were all I needed to get back on track. Thank you so much
I love your channel. Clairfontaine paper is the best pastel paper on the market. I always start with my hard pastels then move softer so I don't fill the tooth too fast. Pastel is my favorite medium. So fun to put your brain away and let go on a beautiful piece of paper while you get all dusty from the pigment 😊. Also, try panpastels if you haven't. You can blend new colors with them like paint. Soooo fun.
Kudos on the new schedule! Trying to tune in to the daily livestreams let alone catch up on the content I missed has felt like tuning into a series I so dearly enjoy but struggle to keep up with. Hope this also means more downtime for the hardworking Art Prof team! May the Bread Fairy continue to bless thee. ^.^
It didn't feel like an almost 2-hr video. Thank you for teaching here on youtube! I have never tried soft pastels for almost 5 years because it triggers my asthma but this video makes me wanna dip my toes again.
I would love to be able to download the reference pic, as it is tiny, What a fun subject!! I may be forced to bake OR shop at a local bakery and set up a still life OR get permission to paint AT the bakery! Fresh baked goods go straight to everyone's "comfort control center!" Truly enjoyed watching your build-up of shape, texture and color. Also was surprised, but delighted, by your composition: placing pieces higher in the space. The greatest pleasure is watching the pure joy with which you attack projects. I love pastels as a medium. There's something so immediate and delicious about them. Thank you for this demo!!
Glad you liked it! Here is a link to the high res version of the reference photo: flic.kr/p/2kWpFVV For future reference, we always put the link to the reference photo in the UA-cam video description. -Prof Lieu
Favorite things: The topping looks amazing. The plate and the blue shadow that bleeds into the green. The organic elements conteated by the off white. Basically all of it. I guess I'm saying... I want this in my kitchen. Edit: omg don't die.
This turned out so lovely. But got a kick out of you rummaging for charcoal. That is the wonderful part of having materials They are there somewhere. I just may take a while to find them. Don’t try to reorganize too much. Eventually you won’t know where to look.

Hahaha I felt like such an idiot doing that on a live stream, but I will say that it did reflect a true experience of being an artist! 😂 -Prof Lieu
