He’s the champ now. No need to put himself in harms way to get finishes. Izzy is happy to sit back and snipe them from range of the challenger doesn’t want to bring the fight. Which I don’t mind at all, the champ can do whatever he wants.
Izzy's takedown defense at 185 is unreal and the way he's able to quickly get back to his feet is incredible... stating the obvious here but if he took the time to bulk up for the Jan fight i think he could've became champ champ easily.. i'd like to see him get a crack at Jiri if he beats cannonier and Jiri beats glover. If he takes time to bulk up for that fight that would be one hell of a stand-up war.. just imagine that violence...
He got taken down 4 times in the last fight vs Whittaker, and four times in the fight before that against Vettori. At LHW he had nothing on the ground when Jan was on top of him, and was getting outstruck on the feet too, despite having the height, reach and speed advantage. I don't think there's any genuine 205er who couldn't beat Izzy, to suggest if he put on a few more pounds he could beat any top LHW 'easily' is fanciful
