This is so tight!! I'm a wildlife educator at a zoo in a state where porcupines no longer live, and I have a hard time explaining to kids how a porcupine's quills really work. This is really one of the best videos to show how many quills are hidden by the fur - and also the relationship between people and wildlife and how they can be responsibly utilized for stuff like art. You have a great teaching voice :)
As an artist, this is right down my alley! Nature's extremely important to me as well so I'd have to say that so far this ist favorite video of yours so far. Gotta go watch part 3!
Thank you for this! I’ve always wanted to learn how to clean a porcupine and I moved away from all my family/elders so I’ve been stuck wondering! Keep up the great work! 👍🏽
This is awesome!! I love quill art...a lady near me makes small baskets with them... and I think someone should make an ASMR vid with just petting quills lol, that was so relaxing! I would watch just that for ten minutes. 😂 Thanks for sharing this, I love how you are making these videos, how else to keep this alive? 👍👩👧
Is the process about the same for a porcupine that's been skinned and sitting for a few weeks or will it be harder? I got the opportunity to take 2 porcupine from a fur trader, who skinned the porcupine and salted the skinned side. I have NEVER done anything like this but seeing the prices for how much an ounce of hairs go for is insaaaane! So I thought hell, might as well give it a try.
there is a natural oil in it yes. kinda like having greasy hair... the quills will have dirt and oil that u clean off and Im making that video shortly! stay tuned.
Thank you! Harvesting quills for the first time today!
Good job keeping the tradition alive keep it up!
Great work! Wish I had found this BEFORE I processed my first porcupine...
