Mock the Week - Serious, Risky and Heroic

  • This is the extended version of a round of "If This Is The Answer, What Is The Question?" from Mock the Week, probably Britain's most popular panel show right now. This was from episode five of series five.
    Frankie Boyle, master of the blackest of black humour, suddenly decides to take a different spin during this round of gameplay.
    Sadly missing from this clip is a great exchange that did make the final edit, with Hugh Dennis delivering a brutal quick-witted putdown to American Jimmy Tingle that went something like:
    JIMMY: They put a flag there and claim they own it. Who do they think they are, the British?
    HUGH: Of course, the Americans own the moon...

      They are two of my three favourite comedians (next to Jimmy Carr). In the introduction from Prometheus Volume 2 Frankie praises David Mitchell as well: "Marina Hyde, David Mitchell, Barrett Brown - I have read some of my favourite funny writing over the past few years."

      The thing about Frankie is that he's an extremely nice guy who outside of his comedy, is very moral. Meanwhile there are comedians whose material is much cleaner who are complete arseholes off stage.

    • @JimmySteller
      @JimmySteller 4 роки тому +2

      Are they opposites? They both rely on wit and barbs, they’re both very well read and clever, and they’ve both made rather shocking comedy (David less so than Frankie, admittedly, but that doesn’t make him Frankie’s opposite necessarily).

    • @dig8634
      @dig8634 3 роки тому +4

      @@JimmySteller Frankie is very controversial and uses taboo a lot more than David does.
      While David might not be unfamiliar with dark humor, he is definitely perceived as the more serious and nerdy comedian, which would be quite a distant from Frankie's style.

    The fat jokes aren't immoral. I'm a 300-lb 5'6 man, and I gave them a fat pass a long time ago. I had to get it out first, too; I mean, I knew where it had made its way to and all, but it took me a solid 40 minutes to pull it out of the crack of my flabby ass without pulling a muscle.
