Geologist here. The lines in the rock (14:02) are veins of a mineral such as quartz which is harder than the rest of the rock. So the rock has been eroded away since its softer
Heard a Nebraska farmer thought about a farm in Minnesota. Asked about the piles of rocks, realtor admitted some of you guys were too lazy to scatter them out.
Rock picking technology is mind boggling. Not like the old days when you wandered around the field and either used the hydraulic rock picker or front end loader. Something for an old retired guy to do.
Or riding behind the tractor on a sheet of old steel bolted between two heavy boards with chains running to the tractor. Uncle drove the tractor and us cousins would load rocks by hand. When we had a good load we went to the side of the field, preferable in a shelter belt, and throw them off. Was told the rig was originally pulled by horses.
Zach I noticed your Peterbilt has an auxiliary power unit attached. You know you can put the apu in fan mode and turn the fan dial to off position and the apu will be in stand by mode. It will start up when it senses low battery level and shut off again when your batteries are fully charged. Save yourself a lot of trouble charging batteries.
Zack, my worst quarter section, had 3159 rocks. I plan to have Terraclear do the entire farm. I have done a 4th of my farm so far. After my soybean fields were picked by terraclear My dad who is 83 was able to work 600 acres with the 335 turbo till and only break 2 blades. I whole hearted endorse
@@paulanderson7893 I said crusher, not picker. Yes I could understand it being to fine, my experience has taught me that set up of a crusher with a packer behind it leaves little to no chance of erosion. Just a thought for the super rocky ground, otherwise Tera clear is a awesome company to work with
@backfill9183 it is the windrower that causes the fine soil for the erosion. A rock crusher requires a lot of energy to reduce the rocks into gravel. In an area like Minnesota without gravel deposits, crushing rock makes sense. Where I live, there are ample gravel deposits available, so the rock crushing doesn't makes sense
Onyx, guy we all love ya, please wear the harness while climbing. I know three people who can't walk anymore because they fell from their stand or while hanging a stand. Have a great hunt

Boy an uneducated guess on that rock either it was on the bottom of a ancient creek or river or a glacier slid right over the top of it. Lol. When it comes to your dogs they are well behaved I was always told that’s a reflection of the owner. I’m always happy to see your videos come up in my feed. We appreciate your hard work.
Loved seeing the farm prepped for winter! ❄ The behind-the-scenes look at tillage wrap-up and snow removal plans really shows the year-round hustle. 💪🌾
Besides all of that mineral rich soil, those 2 mile thick glaciers carried a lot of rocks they scraped up from the north and then dropped in Minnesota.
You may laugh how I discovered your channel. I live in the Scottish Highlands and a keen gamer playing Farming Simulator. Because of this I used Farming as Search term often when looking for info. Because of this your wonderful channel appeared. I now watch it all the time.
@M8Stealth Hi, I have got FS25 but not started it yet. Waiting for bugs to be ironed out a bit and I am really engrossed playing Carinthia on FS22. I live just outside a little village called Strontian and own half an acre of peat. All the best Steve.
That rock could be related to the nearby location of the Kensington Runestone, like maybe scratch paper? I understand the latest translation of the Runestone is something like, "Ya, we stopped and had a little lunch. Uff Da! Da mosquitos is bad!"
Might should get one of the TerraClear guys to take a look at that rock. See if they can tell you if they have ever seen anything like that or know why it is like that.
I’ve never seen a farmer that grows rocks. That one field must be your highest producer. Now if you cross an 18” rock with a 8” rock do you get a hybrid 13” rock that’s better for rock walls or is it only for rock gardens?
Wait until you find out your rocks GLOW under UV lights. Glacial movement puts rocks there from Canada most likely. I'd love to come with my lights and see what treasures you have lurking. lol

I have "an inherent distrust in man's ability to do anything right". I don't trust that those straps will hold Onyx as he hangs on a tree over large rocks. Be safe.
2:30: I had to laugh. A wall full of fasteners - and you have to go into the back storage to sort thru stuff piled on shelves. The equivalent of me digging thru my coffee cans. My Dad used to call the coffee cans his “Jewel Boxes”. Don’t sort out the contents! That way when you need a bolt or two, they’ll (probably) be there. At least a single piece.
I use the same system, random boxes, cans, drawers and an old tool box all with random hardware in them. Works great until you need two or more of the same bolt!
Can you provide some ideas of saving by removing these compared to historical equipment damage costs? Looking at the broken, shanks, shoes and down time it appears great. Thanks!
Zach. You seem to be having fatigue issues with your ripper. Might be worth a discussion with JD about it. Could you get a complete new set of bolts and u bolts for your machine FOC or at reduced cost? Seems an unnecessary cost to replace the machine over inadequate bolts.
Could that rock picker be mounted on the front of a tractor like where you now have a bucket mounted. Would not be so maneuverable as the skid steer but would save having to buy another or bigger skid steer. Just a thought.
Leave the rocks more rocks on the surface level frost brings more rocks to surface repeat for a few years now you have a paved field with no soil left to farm

I've also seen limestones erode that way.
Username checks out 😅
P.S. You can come get all your Canadian rocks back from Minnesota any day now. 😂
Thanks for that information!
This rock invasion blows my mind ! I grew up in St. Louis so very naive. Learning all the time.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again... your dogs are so stinkin’ cute riding in the backseat of the Ranger 🥰.
Big fan of the little video clips at the end. They've been missed.

How do they identify those rocks using sensor signals? Thank you for showing; this is really cool.

That spot you put the tree stand at looks like an excellent location for an enclosed elevated hunting blind....with heat
It's amazing how content the dogs are in the utv. They just sit on their sides quiet and just enjoying the ride.
I love how the dogs look at you like they believe well under 50% of what you are saying

Have you thought about using a rock crusher pulled behind one of your tractors?
@backfill9183 the pull type pickers would beat the top of the soil too fine and leave the soil at risk for wind erosion

Onyx really should have a harness on. It is a lesson I learned the hard way didn't get seriously injured but had to throw out a pair of underwater on
Just an idea... put the snow equipment under roof so its not frozen when you need it.
Warm equipment meeting cold snow can melt causing a plug. At least my experience

13:54 - What if that rock isn’t just a rock? ☄ Maybe it’s a meteorite that crash-landed from the far reaches of space!
Old mud flaps are great to put under the foot of the cultivator. To stop the foot sinking into the soft ground.

The grooves in that rock look to be glacial grooves. They may have been cut into the rock as the glacier pushed it over harder rocks.

No wonder why that rippers falling apart. Look at all the rock it harvests!

The Police song. Our dogs name is Rocky and I sing that tune quit often for him. He gets all excited. I dig the track loader with a pitchback on it.
Always love the dogs!
The people next door to me have the same thing with their dog. As soon as they even look at the utv the dog goes nuts
That crazy looking rock would make a nice lawn ornament.
Good job Zack
Besides all of that mineral rich soil, those 2 mile thick glaciers carried a lot of rocks they scraped up from the north and then dropped in Minnesota.
All the ground contact parts on tractor implements need to be bolt-ons that break at the bolt before the mainframe bends.
That rock with the ridges in it was caused by the shifting and compression of tectonic plates.
This has been up for 8 hours and just now UA-cam has notified me

It still defies my concept of physics that these rocks float up from below the ground.
As a land of rocks and cows expert 😅, frost every winter compresses the soil and pushes them up
@@Head-ck4hu I'm with you!
Those buried rocks are forced to the surface by centrifugal force acting on them due to the rotation of the earth on its axis

Lol No Ragrets!!! Were the Millers such an underated movie!!!
Rock with marks looks like glacial grooves.
That's at time mark 13:56

Now if the rock picker drones used GPR to tell what to avoid or what needs to be dug up before it causes more problems...that would be game changing.
I'm glad to see you washed the windows in the Ranger so the dogs can see out. I commented on this a couple videos ago.

Dog's looks happy riding around with you
as a kid my dad always said that the rocks breed in the winter. ive made my fair share of piles
Are picking rocks on the eastern shore as well?
I think Terraclear is planting the rocks, dropping them from the drone, kind of like Chem trails from airlines!
Think of the kitties!
Love those dogs

With all of those rocks it'd almost pay to get a crusher that'd run off of a tractor. Put'em in the driveway instead of hedgehogs. Ya think maybe?

Onyx is getting tall.
That rock with the stripes looks like a meteor I have seen in at a exhibition center.

I'm sure there's definitely a visibility Factor which would definitely make skid steers a better option.
Never thought id hear Medieval and Robot in the same sentence 😅
I found a nice deer stand one winter. But next spring a guy who had permission to hunt mentioned he lost a deer stand. Oh well.
How?... Go into the settings and turn off rocks? They'll disappear 🤣 🤣 🤣
Are you looking for rocks in NJ too??🤔🤣
Even with a wall full of bolts, you still need a different size.
take out the rocks
soil fills the space the rocks were in
soil level now lower
result
More rocks nearer the lower surface level
Leave the rocks
more rocks on the surface level
frost brings more rocks to surface
repeat for a few years
now you have a paved field with no soil left to farm
What weather app do you use over there😊🇩🇰🇺🇸🇩🇰🇺🇸
Great job on the video as always Zach. Great to see you went red with some of your tools. You won’t be disappointed. 🤣🤣🤣
Now I know what a deer stand is (or is it a deer sit)
You've never seen Joe Dirt.. That's not a rock it's a Boeing bomb...Check it for corn kernels lol
All this craziness across the country about the drones when all it is is rock pickers

Pet rocks as emotional service animals 🐕🦺 are big business, you should donate one to your Governor 👍🏻
He would probably love it if they tied it to his ankle for his next pool party 🤣

for the west quarter field why do you guys go a different direction in the upper corner
