Several times I have found myself to be one of those blind men believing that "I am right and it's not fair that others don't see it"🤔 Thank you very much for illustrating this! Now I see that somehow we all can be relatively right ✅ 😊

Most of Buddha's Teachings are Secular anyway. They are Universal and Timeless. When we say 'Secular Buddhism', it sort of gives the impression that we are 'Secularizing' his teachings and presenting them to the world. This can lead people to believe that his teachings were originally meant to be religious and that we, the people of the 21st century, have secularly interpreted it. This, according to me, is a big mistake. We should just use the phrase 'BUDDHIST PHILOSOPHY'. That makes it very clear that we are talking about 'The Philosophy of Buddha'. So, I advise people to use the phrase 'Buddhist Philosophy', instead of 'Secular Buddhism'.

I just subscribed to your channel and was surprised to learn you're living in Kamas. My family lived in Francis, next door, for a short time (years ago) and I have cousins in Kamas. I'm glad to see it's grown to include the expanded ideas of Buddhism. You have a great speaking voice and I'm looking forward to your channel.

Apparently the main tenet of secular Buddhism is creating videos with extremely long introductions and allocating long periods of time talking ambiguously and without purpose. Thank you 10/10.

How ironic that I should find this at this time. Leonard Cohen was the musician who wrote the song Hallelujah. He went so far as to become a Buddhist monk. I saw him being interviewed several years ago. He said he benefitted greatly from the practice. He said it helped him immensely to be a better Jew. I was born to a Protestant Christian family. I have been wanting to study Buddhism more, but I have not been wanting to discard my Christian roots. I am glad there may be a way to be both without feeling conflicted.

“You may think that as an atheist or an agnostic, or even better, a modernist, you are not affected by the hang-ups that grew out of your country’s archaic religions. But is that really true? Being ‘modernist’ doesn’t mean you have automatically shrugged off all trace of your national culture and habit. Native English-speaking atheists continue to use a language developed under the influence of Christian values. Language and literature have such a powerful effect on how native English speakers think that its influence is difficult to escape. Take, for example, the word ‘secular’. These days, so-called spiritual teachers fall over themselves to position their courses in secular territory by putting as much distance as they can between their own, ‘new’ teachings, and old, ‘outdated’ religious traditions. But according to the historian Tom Holland, there is no such thing as secularism. So much of the English language is coloured by Christian associations and rooted in Christian values that ‘Trace elements of Christianity continued to infuse people’s morals and presumptions so utterly that many failed even to detect their presence.’”
    Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche

Sir why don't we start saying 'secular Buddhism' as just 'buddha's teaching'.....it will be more clear and the term secular buddhism in future will be just another form of buddhism....but less possible with the term 'buddha's teaching' and also cover's all buddha's of past, present and future.

Just as "not every country sees secularism the same and might get confused," not every country sees Buddhism the same either, so you don't really have a leg to stand on here. What kind of Buddhist worries that others will somehow get Buddhism wrong? How, in the eyes of a Buddhist of any sort, is that even possible for someone to do? If it doesn't matter what path you take, it certainly matters even less what you call your path.

When you say 'spirituality' do you mean meaningful/ethical? Also, I prefer the Nichiren Lotus Sutra Chanting philosophy and ethics. I could only find one blog on the net for Nichiren secularists but it subscribed to 'woke' which I do not.
If anyone reads this, please let me know if there are any likeminded secular Nichirenists otherwise I shall join a SGI local group and try to keep my mouth shut about reincarnation and mystic beliefs. Maybe that'll be a meaningful Buddhist practice in itself tho!
