Ao Ashi and Cuckoo were the two anime I realized I was missing while editing the video, I will definitely check both of them out at some point though, especially with all the Ao Ashi praise I've been seeing on here.
Ah, I see, you haven't seen Birdie Wing's past episode 1. You see that shooting golf over train bit? Well, let's just say that what happened in the future makes that scene very "normal", to say the least. "Gambling Golfer"? How about "Mafia Bound Illegal Golfer"? "Relatively dull, family drama"? How about "the one behind this family misery is an underground organization powerful enough that even billioner can't touch them"? You see, Birdie Wing is a misleading anime. You thought it was an anime with ridiculous premise, then the next episode arrives and you realize that last episode was very sane in comparison. Also, RPG Real Estate actually has plot. It kinda like Machikado Mazoku where you think it is aimless, but turns out it has PLOT! And things you think are dumb or just one-off, turns out has a twist that makes you think twice about the situation in the world (for example, a character always slept outside as a gag. Well, it is not actually a gag, and there is something big happen behind the scene that make said character always slept outside). Just wait for it, I am sure you won't be disappointed. Aside from those two things, I personally watch Shachiku-san (which is relatively tame compared to the manga, because the manga is basically /ll/), Healer Girl (nice, not bad, not my top anime though), and Shokei Shoujo (my top anime. Really good. Can't wait for the second half of the anime. As someone who has read the LN, this is a very rare story where every new revelation actually change how preceive what I know about the world, plots, and characters).
another very well-written show. the concept itself is already quite good for the stale and almost over-memed isekai "genre" but they also execute it very competently. pacing and reveals just work so well, keeping the mystery of akari's background shrouded while menou's own backstory slowly unfurls. this is the kind of super high potential worldbuilding that should get a proper franchise-level investment, development and exposure, instead of the more pedestrian stuff like overlord or slime -- just imo. i would sacrifice all the sequels of danmachi, fate, and throw in arifureta/shield hero, if we could get executioner to 4 seasons. it's something that could have the quality of rezero or mushoku, if only the IP holders had the foresight to invest in it. well, maybe i'm overselling a little, but 7 eps in, the show has not let me down yet.
I watch one episode and wanted to isekai myself there and choke the living shit out of that girl for being the most annoying and horrible person ever. Imagine your self in the shoes of that knight, would you not do that? But maybe it gets better idk
healer girl is simply amazing... hearing that the VAs actually adlibbed some of it just elevates it even further. show does NOT shy away from straight up disney musicalling half an ep! that sports festival... had the main girls just basically sing every line, just because they studied too hard for their certification exam and got stuck in some sorta trance xD the best part tho, is that it also very realistically integrates itself into standard science-based medicine. it realises that it could be seen as some sorta pseudoscience alt medicine, so instead of awkwardly avoiding it, they actually wrote that whole tension into the worldbuilding. that's... just really good writing. 10/10 will sing an entire episode's worth of bravo and encore, just for having a medical doctor being antagonistic to the whole concept, but being convinced by the earnestness of the healer girls in the end. you don't expect worldbuilding in a cute girls iyashikei, but here you go, it can happen, and it is sublime.
Need to check out Healer Girl, I've been seeing praises everywhere. But man I was waiting for Ao Ashi to show up but it never appeared, it's shaping up to be a really great spokon.
Ohh now that you mention it, yeah, I'm enjoying dance dance danseur too but the main character isn't nearly as likable as Ashito in Ao Ashi, and considering what the other sports anime are this season, Ao Ashi is definitely the best one, it even reminds me of Captain Tsubasa, and it's also a seinen sports anime interestingly enough. Without spoilers, give it 1 episode to get hooked on the vibes and main character, 4 episodes to get to the hype, and 5 for another emotional hook (at least I cried a bit in ep 5 lol)
@@Tsugandate I've been enjoying it all way through but episode 4 and SPECIALLY 5 really got me hooked. I see a lot of potential on how the show treats it's characters and motivations, I feel like it has a kind of nuance and maturity that you don't usually get to see, even if it's too early to tell. And and as you said, the emotional hook is strong, I know I will be rooting for Ashito as long as the show goes on.
5 seconds in already liked. Love that you highlight many of the underrated, lesser known titles you’ve led me to some awesome hidden gems and convinced me not to judge an anime by its MAL score thank you 🙏 love your content and this may sound weird but I love your laid back chill voice like your just having a natural relaxed non pretentious conversation with your audience
Trapped in a Dating Sim does indeed have a pretty bad first episode not gonna lie, but it goes on a pretty fast upward arc from the second episode onward, because the first episode has the unenviable task of setting up the premise and speedrunning the reincarnated MC's life up until he gets to school. It's in the second episode onwards that you understand something fundamental that will either make or break the series for you: the MC is a weird fucking asshole. also, you may have noticed from the OP that there's mechas. that's not just a weird background detail. This is an otome isekai with mecha fights. Is it still not a great series? Sure, but it's climbed its way to the middle of the pack. you can see by its MAL score that people like it a lot more than the Demon Lord one or Dawn of the Witch. still, I would only recommend this to someone that absolutely needs a trashy fantasy anime seasonal that's actually enjoyable. which describes me. I'm Quitting Heroing actually has worse direction than Trapped in a Dating Sim, feels like it needed a better studio, but the writing can be charming, and the character design is pleasant. originals that I am watching, ranked 1. Spy x Family 2. Love After World Domination 3. Ya Boy Kongming 4. Deaimon 5. Aharen-san 6. The Executioner and Her Way of Life - though I'll be honest it's #1 when Ashuna is onscreen, I LOVE HER 7. A Couple of Cuckoos - I genuinely cannot explain why I like this a lot and loathe Shikimori, maybe I'm a contrarian, or maybe this is more my kind of Aesthetic. it looks almost KyoAni good visually, and has nice, snappy direction. 8. Trapped in a Dating Sim 9. Heroines Run the Show 10. Shikimori is Not Just a Cutie 11. I'm Quitting Heroing 12. Tomodachi Game - this is garbage, I will watch every episode of every season that is made. Strongly do not recommend, even though I look forward to it every week. the production quality is ass, it's a teenager's idea of what's edgy, and if I wanted a good version of this I would seek out once again the fansub of the Korean reality TV show The Genius) and because I am genuinely deranged now, sequels God Tier, ascended beyond mortal comprehension: Kaguya-sama s3 2. The Demon Girl Next Door s2 3. Science Fell in Love s2 4. Komi Can't Communicate s2 5. Date a Live IV and now you're telling me I need to be watching Healer Girl too? fuck. fuck. fuck. and I'm not even watching Summertime Render yet. I need to drop some things.
From what I'm seeing you're not alone on Trapped in a Dating Sim getting better in the future episodes which is interesting lol, maybe I'll check out where it goes. Also my god dude, you are keeping up with a lot, and yet I have to say that you should definitely add Healer Girl to this list of anime you're watching! 🙏
@@PhenomSage yeah I was really confused since I read the manga and it wasn't as bad as you let it out to be. Haven't watched the first episode of the anime yet but compared to how you reviewed it, it's much better than that.
I enjoy watching trapped in a dating sim, its kinda unfair to judge it by the first episode. You could have said that it was not your cup of tea, but instead you told people to stay away from it. I guess we just have a difference in taste, because i felt the same way with the healer girl.
Deaimon sounds a lot like "March Comes in Like a Lion" without the Shogi. Since March is one of the most wholesome, beautiful, fantastic shows of all time... I may have to give Deaimon a watch.
Man its been a while since you uploaded a video but you making this you are a GOAT, for doing this for those who don't even know where to watch for this season. You do better recommendations than whatever Mother's Basement does for anime.
Guys, Trapped in a dating sim is GOOD. I thought it would be trash first episode but it is awesome ep3 on. MC is kazuma level chad. Although most of the other characters don't matter much he is a joy to watch
@@Nyoh_5 I was going to make the same comment after finishing the video. The big ones that striked me was trapped and also executioner. Executioner has fallen apart into mediocrity sadly. Deaimon bored the hell out of me too.
I was about to comment that I highly disagree with PhenomSage but you beat me to. And yes, any one reading this please go watch the show, the first episode was bad, not gonna lie but from then forward, it has gotten significantly better also has one of my favorite new isekai MC who might rival the likes of Kazuma from Konosuba. DO NOT SKIP THIS SHOW, endure through Ep 1 if you can.
@@SakugaObscurious Leon is indeed an excellent main character, watching him gives such a good satisfaction. Episode 4-5 I was rooting for him like a fanatic lol
And the best part is that Richard shares a incredible bond with the only person to feel is isolation and has the power of god connecting through his heart
It looks alright, and I love the whole healer fantasy thing, but it does come off as a regular cute-girls-doing-cute-things kinda show, just with musical numbers which, I guess is unique enough? 🤔 not sure if convinced just yet
@@alveolate I think it's relatively good and I appreciate some aspects a lot like the animation for example personally I probably give it a seven or eight as my taste is just a little bit different in general
My favorite is Kunoichi Tsubaki, Healer Girl bored me, Deaimon is great, Onipan is good fun, Trapped in a Dating Sim and I'm Quitting Heroing are actually good, Honzuki s3 is the best overall
the saddest thing is that literally every youtuber who did any sort of "all anime of spring 2022" video left out one of the best(and that's of course my opinion) shows of this seasons - Thermae Romar Novae. like it's so unique and free of stereotypes, how could you miss it...
I gotta tell you, I absolutely love that you put down where to watch these shows. One thing I find so frustrating about anime is that it's so spread out on different services. I live in a house with two roommates and we cover a few of them like crunchyroll, Disney+ and Netflix. Doing that helps me out a ton so thanks a bunch 😁
It's been a while since I've visited your channel; glad to see you're still active and improving the quality of your videos. Let's be honest though, you made this video as an excuse to recommend Healer Girl (and address the travesty that is its underratedness; you clever, clever shrew 😉😉😉
@@PhenomSage 😄😄 How could I tell? Ohhhh I don't know, perhaps the fact that the healer girl section of the vid is the one that most resembles your video essay writing style (the videos you actually care about), or the fact that it's the longest section in this spring 2022 round up vid. If I were a smart guy, I'd realize making a video essay of an already underrated and neglected series won't get a lot of hits. So what's the best way to get people to recognize such a charming show? Make a seasonal round-up vid (it's a general enough video that it'd catch the general anime fans attention a hell of a lot easier than a fullblown healer girl video essay), then sandwich my healer girl shilling somewhere in the earlier parts of the vid, making sure to place it somewhere around the 7 min mark. It's early enough that dedicated subscribers and those with attention spans for longer than 5 minutes would catch, but not too early to give away my desperation to endorse the series 🤣🤣🤣. I mean, why else would something like SpyXFamily be stuck at the end of the vid? Everyone already loves that series and is watching it so there's urgent need to advertise what everyone is already saying about the show. Half-jokes aside, I'm sure you had plans already to do a "1st ep of every spring anime season" video, but it definitely feels as if wanting to talk about healer girl drove your motivation to actually commit to making the entire vid
Dance dance danseurs is actually very good, you can keep watching, I have same taste in healer girl and Deaimon but ddd hook me more with the struggle and sparkle the protagonist have.
that recent ep man! they suddenly went REALLY ham with the passion! i think the show has good bones, but took a bit long to ramp itself up... junpei and luou are 100% legit best boys and they are being criminally undervoted in every best boy poll... the production also clearly are true fans of ballet, going so far as to basically polish up a unique art style just to do the dancing animation justice. i really wish we had some ballet professionals critique the attention to detail here, because i suspect that the animators went to great length to portray real ballet properly. but damn, how many dance geeks are there, and how many of them also happen to be ballet geeks? the level of niche is sooo specific... kageki shojo might be feeling a bit outdone here.
I don't remember Skeleton Knight's first episode all that well, but it's risen to one of my top animes this season. It blew away my expectations and now I'm anticipating every new episode. I honestly think the first ep gave it a really bad rep because it had to go through the classic isekai shenanigans. The MC is actually kind of refreshing in a strange way. He doesn't want to save the world or anything so grand. He just wants to do and see cool shit. I humbly request you give this a few more episodes. If you really like it after that, perhaps make another video on it. :)
ehhh it had a pretty gimmicky use of an almost-rape scene to up its edginess, ep1 had very goblin slayer vibes but not in a good way. i do really like the OP and ED songs tho. the show overall is slightly above mid i guess? now that we have kemomimi ninja. i feel like the pacing is still choppy, and the show really doesn't know how to end episodes on a proper note xD very sudden final scenes cutting straight into ED. i feel like the director/storyboard could definitely improve.
My issue with the great demon lord is reborn is that we are living in a post Anos Voldigoad world... nor shall we ever get more RIP... Also ya missed new black rock shooter, but it's a skip sadly... Interesting seeing you thoughts on the shows you didn't talk about in discord.
@@sciencethygod Ohh woah my bad. Have no idea how I missed this. I think it was cause I saw the video quite a bit later half way and then I forgot that it was mentioned. But anyway thanks for that.
You missed Ao Ashi 😅 It has potential to become something big in the future. I'm watching (ranked in order of enjoyment so far): 1) Spy x Family/Yaboy Kongming 2) Ao Ashi 3) Dance dance danseur: last episode was fantastic but the main character having a dream thing doesn't fit the anime. I think it should have aimed more on giving out some 19's french/Italian vibe rather than doing the generic stuffs other animes (especially shonens) have done but in a ballet anime. Same reason I still haven't got into Haikyuu. Would love to say DDDanseur has the best animation from the season. What Mappa is doing there is incredible and raises my hopes up for Chainsaw Man's adaptation
The otome game show also just seems to have a huge dislike of the otome genre and it just makes me wonder why they even chose Otome games to base their anime on. I’ll never enjoy riffs when it’s made from malice. Riffs are always more fun when you whole heartedly obviously love the genre you are riffing on and care about it. Example my life as a Villainess for Otome games and Konosuba for Isekai
In hindsight you choose some bangers! I like weird shit, too, and stuff like Birdie Wing, where describing it to someone fondly based on it's premise makes you question your sanity (although Mother's Basement did a great job of this) is a great example. This is why I anime; it is an excellent medium for exploring the absolute limits of the human imagination. You can have a great premise and drop the ball on the follow-thru (98% of all isekai), but that's usually what happens to studios who make trash based on chasing dollars. Shikimori's a cutie, but (per Gigguk) she's boring as fuck. But sometimes you want that. Don't tell me you've never watched Laidback Camp just to relax or at 3 am in the morning after waking up from your worst nightmare. Again, this is why I anime, for the variety. Dance, Danse, Dancy is also a great example, but my dude, he's like, what, 14? Of course he's going to be a hot mess of all-over the placeness! But that's what makes this show great! He's fighting the bone-crushing conformity of teenage boyhood to follow his passion. Then you throw a love interest in the mix, and he has to balance his feelings for her against his ultimate goals for himself, and then his recognition of the perfection of Ruo's technique and his quest to convince Ruo to take advantage of that in spite of all the trauma he endured to achieve it? He's figuring himself out in the midst of all this! This is hot-ass fire right here! And then I describe it to someone: karate kid decides to follow his hidden dream of becoming a ballet dancer. "What? Yawn" That reaction is due to the bar for western audiences being so low that no one cares anymore. I mean yeah, there's a lot of shit anime out there, but there's WAY more shit TV floating around. But I digress. The point of all this rambling is that I like your taste so far. I came here from your spicily titled review of Edgerunners (Did your Title-Guy work for Cracked?). This sort of thing is why I would rather watch reviews of anime than talk to randos on the internet about it. Throw-away hot takes are a dime a dozen but you need passion and the courage of your convictions to produce a video about them. Don't disappoint me! (lol)
But how can you rate an anime just by one episode? What if it has slow start but then something great happens, or it has amazing ending, development, plot twist, etc.? I never understood why people would recommend or write off an anime just based on 1-3 episodes only. Either you watch it whole or say "I can't tell you, I didn't watch it whole".
I'm Quitting Heroing has been quite good as a workplace comedy Dawn of the Witch is a sequel/spin-off to Grimoire of Zero, which aired all the way back in 2017 Executioner And Her Way of Life is so good, it scratches my Re:Zero itch and according to watchers, so would Summer Time Render (haven't started it yet)
How dare you forget to include 'A couple of cuckoos'. You also dissed trapped in a dating sim, I know it had a bad start and the characters look weird, but it has gotten much better.
the healer and her way of life was a weird one for me. I tried to read the manga about a year ago and was put off by how terrible it was. The pacing was bad, the framing was terrible and confusing, the art was sub-par, and it only had a few chapters. I haven't tried the anime yet but now I might since you didnt mention any of the problems i had with it. another show I read the mana for was A couple of cuckoos. unlike the above mentioned, it had good art, pacing, and dynamics between the characters, and two solid best girl contenders.
the main problem with trapped in a dating sim is that leon claims he is a mon, npc BUT ACTS LIKE THE PROGAG IN EVERY SANARIO. example: ep 1 he is arranged to marry a fat pig, now a mob would go along with this BUT not leon. instead leon say screw it i a going to go find a treasure and buy my way out of this unhappy arranged marriage. quieting heroing is tragic in a way that shows how shallow people are skeleton knight is fun and you are just a kill joy who hate green fluffy foxes KYUUUUU
QUOTING HEROING eposode 6 SPOILERS this is not a fantasy world but our world in a dystopian future, see in modern japan demons emerged from under ground wanting to bask in the sun at all cost.this resulting in a war with humanity. out matched humans crated bio weapons to fight the demon and leon is the last of those long long long lived bio weapons
even if the rest of the show isn't that good, I will forever have fond memories thanks to episodes 4 and 5 where he destroys and humiliates the pretty boys. also in the most recent episode where he completely takes leave of his senses and proposes to the literal queen of the country. the absolute madlad. after that no one can accuse him of being a generic isekai protagonist. on account of the fact that he's actually a lunatic.
ok with a lot i can prob agree but i entirely disagree with 17:07, yeah it's ur typical isekai but it's really good! also the intro is different for once qwq"
Dammit, Phenom, you know hoe to hit me in the feels EVERY TIME! I really cherish your video style, your writing, and recommendations. This is easily one of my favorite channels. I love getting your recommendations because so much thought and attention is given to the entire thing, and inevitably you recommend things I’d have never considered watching. Thankfully, you have similar tastes in iyahsekai and feel good shows. I started watching Healer girl immediately and I smiled through the entire first five minutes. It reminded me of how I felt as a little kid watching things like Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Thanks again for existing!
Thank you so much, these are the kinds of comments that make it feel worth making these videos! And I'm super happy that you ended up enjoying Healer Girl! Thanks for taking the time to write all this and have a great day.
Skeleton knight is actually one of my top 5 this season :P It actually got alot of character and personality. Ofc, it's a typical non standard isekai show, but the characters makes it good
My top five consisting of: Spy Family, Skeleton Knight, Papiri Komei, Summertime Render and Kingdom (not in order). Still waiting for Ascendence of a Bookworm and Shield hero to grab "me (edit)" in again. Noticable mentions: Executioner and Her Way of Life, Dance Dance Danseur and Ao Ashi. Haven't started Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie just yet tho. So my top 5 might change :P
Re.Shachiku (alternatively, you could call her "Miss Wage Slave", as I do): Joke's on you, if it's THAT cute, I don't NEED it to have writing. I need to see a wage slave become blessed by adorable moe blobs before she overworks herself to death. This is MY shit. At least until I yeet those moe blobs into the Abyss from whence they can never return alive, but maybe they'll have good food on the way down, at least. Blessings and curses! Also, that new season is on the way, yay! (Hope you'll do episode reviews!) Re.Healer Girl: Okay, that's too much musical for my healing. My family already devastated my mood for any and all musicals by watching Oliver and Cats (the original broadway film ver.) too many times in my presence! It may be a refined and worthy genre, but I will not like it. Unless it has zombies. Re.Every Isekai Hero Is An Overpowered Cool Guy With Short Black Hair Now Because Japan Is Genetically Monolithic, So I Guess I'll Just Have To Skip Them All: I have all kinds of gripes regarding how isekai come off for me and what they ought to be doing with that formula, but I appreciate you TRYING to give them a chance when many of us gave up a long time ago. Re.The Executioner and Her Way of Life: I had already thought of this concept as one isekai should try exploring. I'm glad someone else finally caught on and actually made a series of that. ... But the main character is still a Guy With Short Black Hair. Re.Kong Ming: Intriguing concept that I've seen clips on occasion for. That said, it's hard for me to get into what I'll call "artistic ambition journey" stories if I have no direct interaction with the art form that's displayed. That said, Hands Off Eizoken was REALLY GOOD and inspirational for me to the point of being rewatchable when considering how I connected with it. I rewatched that only a couple weeks ago! If I happen upon a need to help manage a vtuber talent or something at some point in life, this show might provide a couple useful insights for me to consider, though... Re.Onipan: I might try that. Re.SpyFamily: Yes, it's good. If people don't have time for anything except one series, it's gotta be this one.
And I also love that the protagonist of the anime has a little bit of a identity crisis this character goes by a guy name but is also part girl Could this be one of the first transgender ⚧ characters handled well in a anime so far
Man… you said some things I don’t agree with but it’s your opinion so it didn’t bother me, but when you say skeleton knight is “garbage”, I gotta disagree. The animation is top notch, at least for this anime season, comedy is good, writing- idk. And can someone tell me why people are hating on fantasy/isekai? Just because there are a lot of them? Or maybe because its all too similar and repetitive? Cuz I see romance anime that way: there are 2 ppl falling in love, at one point they will probably get mad at each other, there are a few side characters and maybe a love triangle. So is it ok for me to shit on every single romance anime now?
I go into everything with an open mind, so if you go into any romance with an open mind and don't like it because it's the same old stuff you're tired of, then fair enough. For me, if there's something to latch onto in terms of a core or characters, I don't mind if a premise has been done before, but with Skeleton Knight I just didn't find it funny or the characters fun to watch, which really killed my enjoyment since it's reliant on those things.
@@PhenomSage hmm.. I guess that’s fair and you probably understand things like good writing and character development better then I since you make videos about this, I mainly like to enjoy the adventure, like a ghost, just watching the main character. Btw thanks for the reply, have a good one mate.
Just came to say before I watch the video shikimori is a cutie is overrated and by far one of the most boring rom coms I’ve ever watched and It’s Carried by animation Edit: watched video, W video
I read the light novel of Trapped and I watch a few episodes of the anime, and I FIRMLY agree. The anime is atriaght straight and the light novel better version is only a lesser sheild hero and you only would need to read to volume 3. Going further is just kinda not worth it.
Hard disagree on Skeleton Knight. Is it the best fantasy anime this season? No. Is it the best isekai? No. Hell it's not even the best isekai of a person being transformed into a mostly non-human protagonist, nor the best isekai where said protagonist is a skeleton. But dammit I can't say I don't have fun with it, and it has just the right amount of darkness without feeling overbearing or sickening.
@@coldfire2753 That's subjective and one I don't agree with. The characters are likable and charismatic and help elevate the fantasy set pieces they're in into something memorable and fun, I don't see it as forgettable at all. That said there are other isekai that do it better. Bland? Maybe, given how admitingly overused the medieval fantasy setting is, but I'm not going to shit it for that simply on virtue of that being its setting.
summer time rendering is interesting so far, but I can easily see it going to shit. it just WAY too much like Higurashi. so because of that, it feels overrated.
I do not understand how people can watch incomplete series, before I watch an anime, I need to know that the source material is available in english with consistent translations and even them I wait for the BDs.
I want to know this too. Episode-by-episode review videos would be great but Phenom hasn't done those in a while. He'll definitely be discussing it on the Discord though.
He forgot to talk about Ao Ashi, how did he say that he watched every anime this season but didn't actually watched. But it was a good video.

Ya Boy Kongming! surprised me this season and it is a hit, every episode you have no idea what crazy plan Kongming has in store
You not only convinced me to watch Healer Girl, but from the clips you've shown I already love it
I've always wanted a Broadway style anime musical, and I think we've finally gotten one, and I'm so happy.
Really glad you enjoyed Summertime Rendering! The manga was absolutely amazing from start to finish, they're handling the adaptation really well!
The Executioner's way of life is SO GOOD! So glad to hear it left an impression on you!
Trash yuri lol
another very well-written show. the concept itself is already quite good for the stale and almost over-memed isekai "genre" but they also execute it very competently. pacing and reveals just work so well, keeping the mystery of akari's background shrouded while menou's own backstory slowly unfurls.
this is the kind of super high potential worldbuilding that should get a proper franchise-level investment, development and exposure, instead of the more pedestrian stuff like overlord or slime -- just imo. i would sacrifice all the sequels of danmachi, fate, and throw in arifureta/shield hero, if we could get executioner to 4 seasons. it's something that could have the quality of rezero or mushoku, if only the IP holders had the foresight to invest in it.
well, maybe i'm overselling a little, but 7 eps in, the show has not let me down yet.
Glad someone recognized Healer Girl after Geoff Thew didnt think it was in his top ten of the season
I watch one episode and wanted to isekai myself there and choke the living shit out of that girl for being the most annoying and horrible person ever. Imagine your self in the shoes of that knight, would you not do that? But maybe it gets better idk
healer girl is simply amazing... hearing that the VAs actually adlibbed some of it just elevates it even further. show does NOT shy away from straight up disney musicalling half an ep! that sports festival... had the main girls just basically sing every line, just because they studied too hard for their certification exam and got stuck in some sorta trance xD
the best part tho, is that it also very realistically integrates itself into standard science-based medicine. it realises that it could be seen as some sorta pseudoscience alt medicine, so instead of awkwardly avoiding it, they actually wrote that whole tension into the worldbuilding. that's... just really good writing.
Arguably the show is in the top 3 of the season with SxF and Summetime render. Production I.G. just knows how to nail sports anime
Completely agree about Healer Girl. I started it for the music but was surprised by just how much I liked the rest of the show also.
It's so special, it's shocking to me how overlooked it's been this season.
LMAO irronically Otome game is still one of my favs XD
trapped in a dating sim is a bad adaptation but even then it's not as bad as you say it is
nah, it's pretty bad. or should i say, mid.
I'm Quitting Heroing actually has worse direction than Trapped in a Dating Sim, feels like it needed a better studio, but the writing can be charming, and the character design is pleasant.
originals that I am watching, ranked
1. Spy x Family
2. Love After World Domination
3. Ya Boy Kongming
4. Deaimon
5. Aharen-san
6. The Executioner and Her Way of Life - though I'll be honest it's #1 when Ashuna is onscreen, I LOVE HER
7. A Couple of Cuckoos - I genuinely cannot explain why I like this a lot and loathe Shikimori, maybe I'm a contrarian, or maybe this is more my kind of Aesthetic. it looks almost KyoAni good visually, and has nice, snappy direction.
8. Trapped in a Dating Sim
9. Heroines Run the Show
10. Shikimori is Not Just a Cutie
11. I'm Quitting Heroing
12. Tomodachi Game - this is garbage, I will watch every episode of every season that is made. Strongly do not recommend, even though I look forward to it every week. the production quality is ass, it's a teenager's idea of what's edgy, and if I wanted a good version of this I would seek out once again the fansub of the Korean reality TV show The Genius)
and because I am genuinely deranged now, sequels
God Tier, ascended beyond mortal comprehension: Kaguya-sama s3
2. The Demon Girl Next Door s2
3. Science Fell in Love s2
4. Komi Can't Communicate s2
5. Date a Live IV
and now you're telling me I need to be watching Healer Girl too? fuck. fuck. fuck. and I'm not even watching Summertime Render yet.
@@PhenomSage Don't. It's getting better but not to the point that it's good or more importantly not to the point that you will like it.
I guess we just have a difference in taste, because i felt the same way with the healer girl.
they destroyed it with the bad animation, they look flat as shit
The facts he din't watch Ao Ashi really hurt my heart. But nontheless it's still really entertaining. But you need to watch Ao Ashi seriously!!
I will!! I regret missing it.
Deaimon sounds a lot like "March Comes in Like a Lion" without the Shogi. Since March is one of the most wholesome, beautiful, fantastic shows of all time... I may have to give Deaimon a watch.
it replaced shogi with wagashi (traditional japanese sweets). show is really good.
Wow I completely wrote off healer girl from the trailer. Ill give it another shot now.
Ngl, the title tricked me into thinking it was going to be another isekai
so, do we have some conversion stories to share?
You completely forgot about Aoi Ashi, the new Soccer anime.
Aoashi is my 2nd favorite show this season (after Spy x Family,) and i don't tend to like sports anime. How did he miss it???
You are my favorite anituber. Another great video!!!
Thank you so much!! Really happy you enjoyed.
Man its been a while since you uploaded a video but you making this you are a GOAT, for doing this for those who don't even know where to watch for this season. You do better recommendations than whatever Mother's Basement does for anime.
Little Baby Ghost is a misunderstood masterpiece and I will watch the entire show just to spite you Mr. Sage
Guys, Trapped in a dating sim is GOOD. I thought it would be trash first episode but it is awesome ep3 on. MC is kazuma level chad. Although most of the other characters don't matter much he is a joy to watch
Funny that every impression he got from episode 1 is wrong and so are all his predictions. Poor souls who watched this video and missed this show
@@Nyoh_5 I was going to make the same comment after finishing the video.
Check out Ao Ashi, it's been solid
I have a hard time believing healer girl is good to be honest lol but I suppose I can give it a try.
It looks alright, and I love the whole healer fantasy thing, but it does come off as a regular cute-girls-doing-cute-things kinda show, just with musical numbers which, I guess is unique enough? 🤔 not sure if convinced just yet
soooo 2 weeks later, what's the verdict?
@@alveolate I think it's relatively good and I appreciate some aspects a lot like the animation for example personally I probably give it a seven or eight as my taste is just a little bit different in general
Good god i was worried you were NOT going to mention Deaimon. Amazing show so far!
hitori, mata hitori
SpyxFamily, Summertime Render and Ao Ashi are top 3 of the season
Always appreciate these lists, thanks!
Man another banger those motion graphics were pretty sick
That Listeners op song at the beginning is such a banger.
No mention of Ao Ashi by Production I.G.? Great video nontheless, but damn dont sleep on the new soccer show. Its awesome
Will definitely check it out, it somehow passed me up despite all the work I put into covering everything lol.
Healer girl is top 3 this season. It is such a genuine show idk how to describe it
You really think so? I’m going to have to give it a try again lol the first episode threw me off with how hard they were trying
EVERYONE FORGETS Legend of the Galactic Heroes 😞😭
Ao ashi is actually my favorite anime this season (maybe aside spy x family) and he didn't even mention it.
Yeah bro, I actually enjoying Ao Ashi even more than spy x Family
new legendary sports anime in the maiing. Production I.G. know what they are doing
My favorite is Kunoichi Tsubaki, Healer Girl bored me, Deaimon is great, Onipan is good fun, Trapped in a Dating Sim and I'm Quitting Heroing are actually good, Honzuki s3 is the best overall
the saddest thing is that literally every youtuber who did any sort of "all anime of spring 2022" video left out one of the best(and that's of course my opinion) shows of this seasons - Thermae Romar Novae. like it's so unique and free of stereotypes, how could you miss it...
you're crazy. How could you watch all this? Thanks for the video.
I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing the good in Healer Girl.
It's been a while since I've visited your channel; glad to see you're still active and improving the quality of your videos. Let's be honest though, you made this video as an excuse to recommend Healer Girl (and address the travesty that is its underratedness; you clever, clever shrew 😉😉😉
Haha how could you tell? Someone has to spread the word though! It's criminal how underrated it is. 😭
Great video as always
I happy that somebody is talking about Summer ghost. It really is short nice story! I really enjoyed it.
I think it went really under the radar because of how it was released but yeah, it's great, we need more of these kinds of short stories!
you forgot about Aoashi, one of the best shows this season imo
Summer Ghost has the best art and colour imo. It just feels so nostalgic for some reason
@@alveolate Kageki Shoujo gives me similar passionate vibe too, but MAPPA really did a great job on DDD animations!
No dude seriously that anime I said deserves Oscar worthy it is so dark and religious and deep and emotional all at the same time
Healer Girl is so good
I don't remember Skeleton Knight's first episode all that well, but it's risen to one of my top animes this season.
FINALLY A VIDEO BROOOO
My issue with the great demon lord is reborn is that we are living in a post Anos Voldigoad world... nor shall we ever get more RIP...
Also ya missed new black rock shooter, but it's a skip sadly... Interesting seeing you thoughts on the shows you didn't talk about in discord.
They announced S2 of Anos tho?
@@mivy7935 ya but the author died so we not going to get more light novels.
And he missed Summer time rendering as well.
@@Wallie33. 20:29
@@sciencethygod Ohh woah my bad. Have no idea how I missed this. I think it was cause I saw the video quite a bit later half way and then I forgot that it was mentioned. But anyway thanks for that.
You missed Ao Ashi 😅
It has potential to become something big in the future.
I'm watching (ranked in order of enjoyment so far):
1) Spy x Family/Yaboy Kongming
2) Ao Ashi
3) Dance dance danseur: last episode was fantastic but the main character having a dream thing doesn't fit the anime.
And also a powerful bond between father and kid
incoming Healer Girl respect
"What? Yawn"
That reaction is due to the bar for western audiences being so low that no one cares anymore.
(lol)
Not gonna lie I love there is also no comedy relief it matches the tone very well
I subscribe to the Healer Girl agenda
Bless, Healer fans rise up!
But how can you rate an anime just by one episode? What if it has slow start but then something great happens, or it has amazing ending, development, plot twist, etc.? I never understood why people would recommend or write off an anime just based on 1-3 episodes only. Either you watch it whole or say "I can't tell you, I didn't watch it whole".
kongming was the most shocking it instantly became my 2nd favorite this season
I'm Quitting Heroing has been quite good as a workplace comedy
Dawn of the Witch is a sequel/spin-off to Grimoire of Zero, which aired all the way back in 2017
Executioner And Her Way of Life is so good, it scratches my Re:Zero itch and according to watchers, so would Summer Time Render (haven't started it yet)
How dare you forget to include 'A couple of cuckoos'.
You also dissed trapped in a dating sim, I know it had a bad start and the characters look weird, but it has gotten much better.
The time hath come!
the healer and her way of life was a weird one for me.
I would have loved to see this video before i watched all of the spring 2022 anime myself.😢
the main problem with trapped in a dating sim is that leon claims he is a mon, npc BUT ACTS LIKE THE PROGAG IN EVERY SANARIO. example: ep 1 he is arranged to marry a fat pig, now a mob would go along with this BUT not leon. instead leon say screw it i a going to go find a treasure and buy my way out of this unhappy arranged marriage.
quieting heroing is tragic in a way that shows how shallow people are
skeleton knight is fun and you are just a kill joy who hate green fluffy foxes KYUUUUU
QUOTING HEROING eposode 6 SPOILERS
this is not a fantasy world but our world in a dystopian future, see in modern japan demons emerged from under ground wanting to bask in the sun at all cost.this resulting in a war with humanity. out matched humans crated bio weapons to fight the demon and leon is the last of those long long long lived bio weapons
While the plot of Trapped in a Dating Sim isn't the best, as a fellow isekai enjoyer, I'm honestly having a lot of fun watching it
even if the rest of the show isn't that good, I will forever have fond memories thanks to episodes 4 and 5 where he destroys and humiliates the pretty boys. also in the most recent episode where he completely takes leave of his senses and proposes to the literal queen of the country. the absolute madlad. after that no one can accuse him of being a generic isekai protagonist. on account of the fact that he's actually a lunatic.
@@dvillines26 That's right, at first he might seem like a generic isekai protagonist, but he's definitely not
I think reading the manga is a better choice. The anime usually ends up cutting some scenes. Also the art is way better and less *simplified*
Finally. Deaimon appreciation. I haven't heard anyone talking about it, and it's so disappointing. Hands down on of the best dramas in recent years.
That's really surprising to me, it seems like something that would be really appealing to fans of drama-related stuff.
Ngl, it was pretty good just bout summarizes my thoughts on spy family
ok with a lot i can prob agree but i entirely disagree with 17:07, yeah it's ur typical isekai but it's really good! also the intro is different for once qwq"
I guess this year I’m really looking forward to Made in Abyss and hopefully they don’t fuck up Chainsawman.
Dance Dance Danseur is really great.
Okay now update your MAL
I quibble with calling Healer Girl a musical, if it was a musical I wouldn't recommend anyone watch it.
Anime at the start of the summer ghost section?
Thanks for taking the time to write all this and have a great day.
ey you missed the good football anime, Ao Ashi
Didn't even know love is war season 3 came out
Go watch it! It's only like 4 episodes so dar but it's so good!
(Hope you'll do episode reviews!)
Re.Healer Girl: Okay, that's too much musical for my healing.
Bro ain’t reading 💀
And I also love that the protagonist of the anime has a little bit of a identity crisis this character goes by a guy name but is also part girl Could this be one of the first transgender ⚧ characters handled well in a anime so far
I would recommend ya watching trapped in dating sim a bit more, maybe till ep 3. Not nearly as good as hamefura but still still enjoyable imo.
thanks for the skip options
Just came to say before I watch the video shikimori is a cutie is overrated and by far one of the most boring rom coms I’ve ever watched and It’s Carried by animation

I read the light novel of Trapped and I watch a few episodes of the anime, and I FIRMLY agree. The anime is atriaght straight and the light novel better version is only a lesser sheild hero and you only would need to read to volume 3. Going further is just kinda not worth it.
RIP the weirdest trash this season, Estab-Life: Great Escape, for not being on this list.
NGL redo of healer did the healing better
bro stop please 😭
Bruh! U dont disrespect skeleton knight! Ur stupid recommendation got me LMAO 🤣! Healer my @$$ 🤣 lmfao
Im glad someone agree with me on Otome Game .The animation sucks
Hard disagree on Skeleton Knight. Is it the best fantasy anime this season? No. Is it the best isekai? No. Hell it's not even the best isekai of a person being transformed into a mostly non-human protagonist, nor the best isekai where said protagonist is a skeleton.
But dammit I can't say I don't have fun with it, and it has just the right amount of darkness without feeling overbearing or sickening.
I watched the first episode and felt like I was watching an insult to life itself 🤢
@@crisocval143 Cool. Anything else to add?
is it extremelly forgettable and bland? yes
@@coldfire2753 That's subjective and one I don't agree with. The characters are likable and charismatic and help elevate the fantasy set pieces they're in into something memorable and fun, I don't see it as forgettable at all. That said there are other isekai that do it better.
Bland? Maybe, given how admitingly overused the medieval fantasy setting is, but I'm not going to shit it for that simply on virtue of that being its setting.
summer time rendering is interesting so far, but I can easily see it going to shit. it just WAY too much like Higurashi. so because of that, it feels overrated.
hugurashi didnt have a time travel aspect to it tho. Re:zero vibes are pretty sick in the show so far
Manga reader here. It just gets better and better. Around Ch.15 is where it gets amazing so I'd say wait a little and you'll get hooked.
Phemom sage do you like Requiem the rose king 👑
I do not understand how people can watch incomplete series, before I watch an anime, I need to know that the source material is available in english with consistent translations and even them I wait for the BDs.
