    Great video! I noticed you referred to Tatyana as Strahd's former lover when she was going to marry Sergei. Is that lore outside of CoS? I'm curious if that's a lore point I hadn't heard or if it was a script error.

      @FlutesLoot
      Glad you enjoyed the video!
      Ahh, that was a bit of a script error! I think my mindset when writing that bit was "Strahd would see Tatyana as his past lover and would probably portray her as such." Unfortunately, I don't think that translated too well. Thanks for alerting me to this!

      @@DnDWalkthrough makes total sense; he would see her that way.

      @@DnDWalkthrough Actually if you go by I, Strahd, one of the primary sources for modern lore for CoS, yes they were lovers, kinda. After Sergei's death he tried to manipulate Tatyana into coming to him, and it nearly worked, they kissed, but then she came to her senses and threw herself from the cliff. With Marina, the first reincarnation of Tatyana Strahd found, he managed to effectively once again manipulate her and stand in himself for her past life's memories of Sergei, but she was stoned to death by the Burgomaster to prevent her becoming a spawn of his. With each reincarnation of Tatyana, Strahd tries to seduce her, sometimes he is successful, sometimes not, but either way she is taken from him each time. In the second I, Strahd book, the final words one of Tatyana's reincarnations utters is "Sergei". So from this you can interpret whether or not Strahd and Tatyana were technically lovers. From Strahd's perspective they were (dude cant take a fucking hint to save his life), but from Tatyana and her reincarnations, probably not? Though a couple reincarnations of hers acted as a lover to Strahd for a time before they were taken.

    Very entertaining. Definitely a shortened version of the overall campaign but fun to listen to nonetheless. The great thing about this campaign is how different it is everytime it is run. With Madam Eva's card changing the locations of important items and people the story is never the same way twice. Curse is by far the best WOTC published adventure module.

    Question. As a player, why would they agree to get the sword for Strahd though? And how should I go about handling players who don’t take lightly to being threatened?

    • @DnDWalkthrough
      @DnDWalkthrough  2 роки тому +1

      Some players won't and that's fine too! In my opinion, Strahd will just use the players to locate and obtain the sword for himself.
      I think for players who don't take lightly to being threatened, I'd kick them around for a bit until they give in or adamently refuse against a threat. One of the themes of Curse of Strahd is the feeling of hopelessness. If your party eventually gives in, then it furthers the idea that everything is hopeless. If they overcome the consequences, I'd view it as overcoming the despair in Barovia! That's just my take on it though.

      @@DnDWalkthrough A friend of mine and myself have a huge collection of 1st and 2nd edition. I think IMO they went overboard with changing the way the game works with the changes after this period. I looked at the newer stuff as it started to come out and it just wasn't the same for me personally. As someone who struggles with maths it was too many variables to keep juggling.

      I had Strum do it. Strahd's youngest brother who is barely talked about. After Strahd killed his older brother he threw him from the top of castle ravenloft with the sun sword in hand. He had his minions attempt to recover it, they told him it was gone. Strum picked it up and fled to a safe location. Later he realizes the sword is sentient. With little allies in Ravenloft, the sword spoke to him and told him that he would need to forcefully bring strong destined heroes from planes outside the mist to Ravenloft. He undergoes a summoning ritual and does exactly that seeking their aid.

      FWIW the module doesn't really tell it like this. It's much more sandboxy and the sense of a linear narrative conveyed in the video really isn't there in the book. Plan to have your own campaign emerge from the actions of your players rather than a series of events described by the book.
      But honestly none of the 5e campaigns really make sense as a linear story out of the box, so they all need to be grounded in the events that actually happen at the table. Usually the things your players do will give you ideas to glue things together more sensibly.
