How about the thermal conductivity of the wood? :D It needs a cooling system other wise, soon the PC will not work anymore and your wife will kick you out of the house. :) Have a good day. It is an amazing craft work. Loved it and envy!
Pretty awesome man. I did something similar a month or two ago. I got an old record player and ripped the guts out also and rebuilt it using Spanish cedar and ebony and gave it to my son. I was pretty proud of the way it turned out,but the best part was that it actually worked. No electronics were harmed.
He can sell it and it would be legal. There was a business called Modbook that modified and sold MacBooks, they went down because they miss managed their money but they never faced any legal issues cause the first purchase makes this no different than selling your used items
The "boring part" can also become the "flow working part". Just think of it as the point where your skills to date get put into use with your muscle memory because you are good at it. Enjoyed the vid, and it looks beautiful. Nice looking workspace for the Mrs.
I really love your way of story telling which doesn't just focus on a fnished and polished end result but rather also emphasizes the struggles and challenges in between. I also really dig the honest insights you give of your inner thoughts which is very rare for creators. Every single one of your videos is a true joy to watch ⭐
you are so right about running out of problems to solve and the project becoming work.... That's part of my works too that i had never identified until you said it...
Wow what a brave and amazing undertaking involving woodwork and complex electronics. But the truly amazing money shot pose is at 5:21 with his nice hairy legs, huge blue-socked feet and his glowing smile (watch out ladies!) 😅
Fiskmas: I love the extra capabilities that having a 3d printer gives me. It has given me a whole new raft of problems to solve. Seeing your application in the woodshop, also gives me more problems to solve and I thank you.
Fiskmas: Your struggle with finishing projects with the same excitement that you started felt like you were speaking directly to me. I'm going to try your "brain hack" of telling yourself that the boring stuff will come, and it just has to be done. I LOVE the walnut enclosure. You did an amazing job. Going to try something like this in the future for sure. Thanks for the inspiration.
Mate! Project fatigue is real! You are most definitely NOT alone. Having the deadline of birthday wouldn't give you time to split time across other projects, either, which is how I manage my "neurospicy" project fatigue.
I'm so curious what the thermals look like on this thing under sustained load. One of the design elements of Macs is that the aluminum bodies act as giant heat sinks and radiators, dispersing heat unexpectedly efficiently away from the electronic components.
Since it's not for sale it really shouldn't matter if you put the Apple logo on there but all these big companies think that they can just use the copyright system to do whatever they want so I don't blame you.
Good Day, That was a great idea, for the Mac 🚗, 😂, I have the same one, 🚗, I wish I could use my Mac properly, especially being able to use it with a CNC router table like you’ve got, I’ll probably could afford to buy one but I do not know how to use it, I think I’ll just get the piece of wood and carving it out by hand. I’m more capable of doing that than I am using a CNC machine., happy birthday, 🥳, to your wife, at least the boss is happy, 😂. My Mac mini was mainly used for doing invoices for my business., taking photographs of my work, holidays, and in my later years I started using it for photography and for stargazing I had a very nice telescope, sadly because I was scammed by my ex female partner I had to sell my camera and my telescope, As I needed money to relocate, as I spent all my money on her and two properties, Keep up the great work stay safe , look forward to our next project, from, Fr
Thanks man! The Mac Mini - even old - is a really lovely machine. Like you say it's good for some stuff - and the first idea was to actually use it with the cnc. It would be perfect for that
As a creative, I constantly suffer from wanting to drop a project and start a new one. I’ve started laser focusing on projects, just doing nothing but that, so I can finish by sheer momentum before I get the drive to stop and start something else. But it’s been a problem with my Kickstarter TTRPG. It got well past the part where it’s ‘fun’ and has been dragging for years.
I spotted an old Rolleiflex or Rolleicord in the box with the mac mini. It’s a pretty valuable camera, so you might wanna store it somewhere more safely...
What do you call an Apple mini made from wood?………An apple tree!! No? Tough crowd. Ok how about this one, what do you call a Apple mini made from plastic but it’s the same price tag as a normal apple mini?…………Tim Crook!!!!…….No? I give up.
At least where I am you absolutely could have done the Apple logo without being sued because it is for personal use and not for resale. But, I actually prefer your logo though.
Great video! One tip for when you are testing the fitment of the powerbutton, is to just print the part of the bracket where the button mounts to, to save a lot of print time! Love from Norway
Apple, Cheap and Good are words that just can't be together. Then again, cheap is a relative term and coming from a nordic woodworker, doesn't mean anything. Handmade wooden coaster for 200€ can be "cheap". But, artisan work is usually super high quality and unique, so I don't mean to disrespect.
You've made your own bigger case, but didn't add a better ventilation? Why? At least some additional holes would make a nice improvement to temps of your old ew mac
Fiskmås cool project! I've been trying with making custom wood enclosures for some of things, so with this video, I think you've pushed me into action 😊
Sorry to hear your problem of being a starter but struggle to complete. You have the typical signs of being a creator instead of a completer finisher. The good news is that creators are the exciting people of the world, doing crazy stuff like a wooden Mac case. Well done. Keep dreaming and keep creating.
I love this project. The only thing I would change is turninf the monitor 90 degrees to the window. Bright light through the window can create monitor viewing problems and possibly cataracts in the eyes.
Cool computer! Project fatigue is real. I am a computer scientist. And when I was learning computing, I had all kind of projects. I didn't finish most of them for the reason you described. Eventually I have solved all the problem to make the project happen. And the only remaining thing is to sustain effort. And that point the project wasn't quite as interesting anymore. To fight that, what I try to do these days (in both woodworking and in computer working) is that I try to have no project that can't be delivered in more than 6 days of work. Ideally 2 or 4. That way, I can do them in less than 3 week ends and be done. Since the time frame is shorter it is less likely that boredom will setup. If I have larger project, I try to cut in stages that are useful on their own. And each stage should be no more than 6 days of work. This way I can do the first stage, have a useful thing and shelve the upgrades for later if I don't want to get on it at the moment.
En Macs aluminiumchassi är en del av kylningen av datorns komponenter. Har du kompletterat kylningen på annat vis? I övrigt så blev det så fint. A Mac's aluminum chassis is part of the cooling system for the computer's components. Have you supplemented the cooling in another way? Other than that, it turned out so nice.
Great video! Tnx! Yea I recognise myself in wanting to derail from a project when I discover something new and eggzigthing. But this is where your Self-discipline comes into play, at least in theory 😀 .
13:05 set out to make a Mac, accidentally made an old Xbox instead. Looks really good! I need more wood in my home, so a new PC case with wood details was a must. I have an idea for the back panel if you decide to revisit this, or any other project with curved areas. I've printed beer holders that you hang on door handles. It was for my neighbour and I surprised him every now and then. I printed the part flat, but it in a jig that I've made that had a hinge, covered the part that was not supposed to bend and blew a heat gun on it, then bent it, kinda like bending sheet metal. You could print your back panel flat, make a solid block of wood with the bend for it to sit in, heat it up and press a matching piece of wood over it then let it cool.
Cooling shouldn't be a problem as the cooling is forced air anyway. Sure it won't be dissipating through the aluminum but it wasn't really designed to dissipates with the aluminum to begin with.
You good? I thought usually you don't smile or scream of excitement when getting something to work and here you at least 2 or 3 times really bursted out with emotions :P Very cool idea and nicely done.
But why the 15:33 monitor with the window behind? You cannot open the window and it is quite annoying the light from outside in sunny days (do you have sunny days in Sweden?) ..
Well done man. I get the same feeling in some projects that even if it’s new and I’m learning, it’s dragging and I just want it done. Just gotta focus on the smallest next immediate step for me, and it helps.
You can't carve the Apple logo into the case, but you can stick the sticker with their logo that comes with some devices, right? After all, it's an official product.
FISKMAS (what does that mean?) Truly lovely video , you do take great care of your dear wife. Heat was also my issue however if you say it’s OK then it’s OK. There were a few things that I intended to bring up but by the time I reached the end they just didn’t matter. Kindest Bob England

Please, this is in no way meant in a bad way, as this makes it wanting to be seen, it is really nice looking and your logo is cool.
thanks! there is some ventilation in the back panel - the fan points to the back panel where it goes out. Initially the plan was to carve small vent holes on the sides as well - but I never went through with it because of looks. But I will have to see over time what happens
Fiskmas! Love you videos! That’s a planer. Puts my dewalt to shame. The Mac is really cool! I like the way you are always solving problems with your builds. Glad to know mine aren’t the only projects that go that way! 🤪
Very cool techniques. As for your comment on the 'project fatigue', I can relate to this very much. For me it is related to my ADHD, you tend to visualize the whole project in your head already, after which your brain feels as if it has done the entire project already and has to do it a second time, but you started it now, so you force yourself to end the project as well, which causes you to feel tired by a project you feel like you've already completed and there are multiple projects in your head already that seem way more excited (because novelty releases dopamine, which people with ADHD lack). There isn't really a fix that I know of, except that I sometimes work on two (and ONLY two) projects at the same time so that when one is starting to feel boring I can 'procrastinate' by doing the other project until my brain gets excited enough to work on the first one. Not trying to diagnose you with anything, just giving tips since some tactics are useful for all flavors of humans.

Omg, I was just thinking yesterday that I wanted to make a wooden case for my airpods and shift the guts over!!!
Beautiful... but I wonder whether you'll face significant performance throttling due to the new thermal properties of the enclosure.
Em… I think you just lost most of the radiation type heat dissipation with wood surface replacing metal…
I love this project. The only thing I would change is turninf the monitor 90 degrees to the window. Bright light through the window can create monitor viewing problems and possibly cataracts in the eyes.

Looks great! But I think the desk is blocking the natural convection from your radiator..
Hä? You changed the Harddisk with a new SSD and when you start the Mac at 16:00 for its first time, how did the OS came on the new SSD?
Great build.... just gonna say tho... bro looks exactly like Fink haha
Wouldn't be easier to create a cover and place it over mac mini so that way you don't take it apart and easily change cover whenever you fancy? 🤔😀
Oooooor, you could just glue veneer onto the original MAC mini case….? Just another option.
Very pretty, just wondering if it didn't need a bigger fan to cool the cpu now that the case doesn't transfer heat as well as the aluminium one.
fiskmås, seagull eller måge på dansk. 01:55 making a winther coat for a computer sounds like an awesome idea 😛 ;-)
Fiskmas: where is the "A with an °" on the keyboard? Fantastic build by the way!!
You good?
I thought usually you don't smile or scream of excitement when getting something to work and here you at least 2 or 3 times really bursted out with emotions :P
Very cool idea and nicely done.
thank you! I've been getting more relaxed with showing myself on camera lately and those moments are few - but it's nice to get it on camera :)
That is definitely a familiar feeling. One that I struggle to power through.
But why the 15:33 monitor with the window behind? You cannot open the window and it is quite annoying the light from outside in sunny days (do you have sunny days in Sweden?) ..
poor lonely neglected k1 :-( The M1 mac minis, I think the ram is soldered onto the board, I wonder how much the ali case acts as a heat sink?
Well done man. I get the same feeling in some projects that even if it’s new and I’m learning, it’s dragging and I just want it done. Just gotta focus on the smallest next immediate step for me, and it helps.
Thanks! focusing on the smallest next step is a good advice
i'm curious about the digital subscriber counter in the background..?
Fiskmas. Ok. My comment is done. 😂 Just keep up with your good work!
Hey! You should update the description to include links to those radius gauges. Please and thank you.
You look like rhett from good mythical mornings missing brother
You're making a wooden Big Mac! That can't be good for you.
why not combine satechi dock and build 1 body including both satechi dock and mac mini
Don't worry. Apple puts their logo the wrong way around on all their laptops too 😂
Fiskmas...this is an awesome project. First time here. Nice video!
Fiskmas: nice touch for a Mac Mini! I never thought that I could like an "upgrade" like this one! Thanks for sharing!
Observant club - your'e in! Thanks mate
Looks really nice, must be good to see a new frame or stand maked out of wood for the monitor .
try putting magnets on the back so u can remove it faster and not worry about striping out the wood.
Cool project, I hope she appreciates it. Also, I hope you put new thermal paste on the processor
So sad to see that such a lovely colour bike is needing a new paint job so soon 😰 best of luck!
the aluminium dissipates the heat. the wood will not.
You can't carve the Apple logo into the case, but you can stick the sticker with their logo that comes with some devices, right? After all, it's an official product.
you can carve the apple logo wherever you want as long as you don't make it a commercial product, especially if it's not an apple device.
Very cool, how's it holding up in regard to heat retention being that its wood ?
Not a really good idea bcoz Mac Mini is so hot. Wooden case is not good for heat dissipation
Try space mouse, it helps a lot with designing
fiskmås are all over where I live, by another name.
That looks fantastic. Great job.
how did the mythical morning stuff go?
FISKMAS (what does that mean?)
Truly lovely video , you do take great care of your dear wife.
Heat was also my issue however if you say it’s OK then it’s OK.
There were a few things that I intended to bring up but by the time I reached the end they just didn’t matter.
Kindest

England
Your definitely in the observant club Bob. It actually means seagull in Swedish. Thanks mate!
yea I use a 2012 mac mini, slapped 16 gigs in there and a SSD, works great (its not my main machine but its my shop PC so it actually gets used almost as much) The downside is intel graphcis, and Mac OS stopped support at like 10.15 ...
Right! They´re really good. There is a thing you can do to upgrade the OS further but there are some risks involved and usually not everything works after wards - but I might try it out. It's not Apple supported though - but it seems to work
I'm worried for your MINI, the aluminum case must be serving as a heat sink on some level which the Walnut will not provide. Hmmm, time will tell. Lovely idea however. enjoy your channel.

Fiskmås! Love these kids of projects.
fiskmås, det är en fågel. I dag jag lärn mig det. (This is what i am able of, after one year of learning swedish, feel free to correct me :) ).
Your right! And you're in the observant club. keep learning
Normalement le boîtier en alu participe au refroidissement ?
That’s beautiful well done
What is the blue tray you are using?
Fiskmas great video Pierre. I really love your creativity and your ability to solve problems. I like the way you use 3D printing to help you solve those problems and show how valuable it is in the workshop,
Plus the Mac Mini looks great
Really liked this video. The wooden pc is a great upgrade to the Mac. One question though, are you worried at all about needing some type of venting. If you did could it be on the bottom.
But I will have to see over time what happens
very cool! wish i could have one too..
Now make a Mac Studio hehe
13:05 Låter som att du kanske skulle ha nytta av en ADHD utredning.
ADD här. skriver under på att ALLA mina projekt är 90% klara. Supersvårt att avsluta även de enklaste av projekten.
Fleetwood Mac 😂
Fiskmås, your videos are so enjoyable and well made. Thank you for your effort!
i'm afraid that hugly bose speaker has to be rebuilt in wallnut now ;c)
your right!
Fiskmas: I still have two old active Mac mini. One runs Mint the other Windows. I would live to recast them too.. Beautiful craftmanship!
Fiskmas! Love you videos! That’s a planer. Puts my dewalt to shame. The Mac is really cool! I like the way you are always solving problems with your builds. Glad to know mine aren’t the only projects that go that way! 🤪
Great project. A light at the back of your logo would make the difference. Thanks for sharing.
Ergonomic desk, ergonomic chair, ergonomic nightmare, carpal tunnel inducing mouse and keyboard 😂
If you made the lamp at 4:58 it's beautiful. I would like to see more videos about simple lamps like that one.
Here you go sir: ua-cam.com/video/7vO1wSKONZA/v-deo.html
1:18 upgrade a Mac!! Ah, this is from 2012 before Apple started all soldered ram and storage chips!
