how to become a train driver? I am really interested, but the training and the recruitment options are so few - I never saw anything for the past 4 years here
Was the train used in this video an EMU Series train? It just looks like one and sounds like one. No I’m not taking about the one that he checks, but the one he drove into Indooroopilly.
@@doitdan2354 thank you for the clarification. does this mean we will be receiving an actual SPAD emergency stop? AWS doesn't trigger an e-brake from what I know.
Can you do a video about how the automated Train arrival station alerts work. Or maybe it's so simple you can just tell me. Is it GPS based but then how does the train signal the station or are there sensors in the track but then how does the sensor know what train it is?
I'm a contractor for track maintenance and infrastructure replacement (plant and attachments) but my understanding is it's from those magnetic sensors, they're usually within the platform or either side and painted bright yellow in between the tracks. So it's an on track sensor. The actual train sensor to control is through sections isolated by glue joints which work from the current (smallish but enough to make you jump) running through the rails. So pretty much if you were to place anything conductive touching both rails it triggers control. Though they know when track works is on and the indications to them are quite different to that of a train.
gnarkillkicksass thanks for your reply. How do they know what train it is though. It could be a normal passenger train but also maybe a goods train or a "special" train just being driven between stations that has no intention of picking up pasengers. How does the sensor in the tracks detect what train it is? Thanks
***** Control know the schedule and where what is. Remember on the network it's not just QR, anything Hyrail is also under them. If they ever have to worry about working out whether or not it's an EMU or coal train passing through a platform then something has gone very wrong ;) I can't imagine that scenario to be honest. Control of the network is very tight, for us our lives rely on it!
EMU's are supposed to be suburban short distance trains, so only the long distance IMU's travel out there. Although EMU's are supposed to be short distance, they are used on every other line other than, to Gympie, and rosewood, (and obviously the Gold Coast)
The reason is because EMU's can only reach speeds of up to 100 when on the Gold Coast line it is high speed from 130 to 140 so they use SMU 260's, IMU 160's, IMU 100's and IMU 120's.

Yeah, QR is awesome, with their interesting train fleet (second to London Underground). Too bad they're retiring the awesome EMUs (hoping to catch one tomorrow, but I may just break the streak of ONLY catching EMUs for the past years and get an SMU)
@@TheDragonFire123 A long, long time ago, I actually hoped for an SMU because the SMU trains were very rare back then and it was mostly EMUs operating the service.

im so curious what safety systems they use, ive never known. AWS?
Yes AWS die signalling
They’re using something called etcs I think
Its AWS for now. 160/260 100/120 Trains are being modded for Etcs. Ngrs already have the etcs system.

I would say it is signal based, but it could be GPS and work in conjunction with the displays at platforms that give arrival time etc.

Why dont Qr just employ an auto brake feature when approaching stations, train stops in the exact spot every time. its not a new thing....
lol its not in anyway like you imagine....its not a TrainZ pc game
Because every train is different, Brake shoe pressures, weight, cars with brakes cut out etc
