I saw Sammy Price at the Cookery in Greenwich Village a long time ago. His music was occasionally played by Felix Grant on WMAL, Evenings Jazz and Blues, in Washington, DC, the best radio show of all time.

Thanks for posting. Just superb. We had a school septet in '58 which played this. If we had heard the Sammy Price Septet then it would have inspired us further. Our immature version is 'Lewis School Pengam Jazz Septet 1958'. I suppose kids have to start somewhere.

Sammy Price King of Boogie Woogie, great traditional jazz pianist with a very personal touch. He lived many years in Paris. Thank you for uploading this gem.

You kno it is hard to believe it feels holistically like yesterday that I was speaking to trumpeter Doc Cheatham, bassist Jimmy Lewis and alto saxist Eddie Barefield. I spoke to them all personally. Doc in Sept 1978 and between 1993-1995, and Doc always remembered me. Jimmy Lewis when he was with Eddie Bonnemere's orchestra between 1990-1994 at Saint Peters Jazz Church Vespers, and Eddie when he with the Illinois Jacquet Orchestra.

Eddie Barefield wrote and/or arranged much of the Grammy winning album "Jacquet's Got It" for Illinois.

How can anyone play the trumpet pointing so high upwards? When I do this, it sounds very awkward (unintentional growl), and the juice comes running back into my mouth, no matter how often I use the spit valve. - Otherwise, Doc's solo is an example of wonderful conception, going from fluid, held-back, multi-note phrasing to center tones à la Armstrong.
