Great video as always man. The F-Y slugs cant be trusted when it comes to velocity. As you noted the steel ball and the plastic part separated. The plastic part flew first (and faster) over the chrony and gave very hi velocitys. I tested these slugs in my long barrel HDR50 and got a hi of 680 fps wich is ca 60 joule. Thats not true readings. I glued the steel-balls to the plastic part and velocity dropped a lot. I dont remember the velocity after gluing the steel ball to the plastic but I think it was in the 430 fps range. The slugs are cool and make nice imprints in stuff. Cool the intro btw 😄. Take care and happy shooting. Greetings from your friend in Norway 😃👍
Very good point as always Rune! Makes a lot of sense! I still like that “double hit” action - but indeed glueing the ball would make it a stronger single shot. Will try that and re-chrono test it to see the difference!

well i used to have one of these with the valve kit to 20 joules it is .495diameter so using 185 gr lead .495 projectiles you can really send that message. i had a jamb in the trigger just after installing the heavy valve and then it misfired into my left palm (just where my bird flipping finger is at the knuckle. i was feeling for a hole in my hand that was not there for the next 3 hours and my hand did not work proper for a couple days. true stuff and the.495dia lead will work fine i just did not wish to keep the hdr 50 after that happened. but one dauy i will buy a homewrecker and try again i do like the platform , wish it was pcp and at twice or thrice the energy level and at a $300-400 price point in pcp with a small 40cc air cylinder. can one of yall make that happen. cause it would be very fun.
aea defender only shoots at 330 fps it is just shooting a .45cal 230 gr slug. and that is basically what we doing putting .495 dia lead 185 gr into the cylinders and shooting those at some low velocity. but i am telling ya from experience, it effin hurts. i had zero fight left in me that day...

I have a pack of these, but didn't like them. All broke after each shot, and many separated during the flight. Loved that intro mate. Quality. 😆😂

They are supposed to break when hitting hard object theyare made to be shot at people and not to be reused in target practice

Those slugs are separating before hitting the targets.2 hits per shot,first plastic then steel bb.I use hot glue slugs similar to those plastic ones,and they stay together until hit target then separate on impact.

Yeh man I made hot glue slugs with ball bearings balls tipped in em and they rock socks... I finally made me a few slug casts and just melt solder into the casts till its full.. but the hot glue hurts man... and is cheap
Yes, they are separating...but as a deterrent sensory overload is a weapon in itself...not just blunt force. Getting hit and then immediately hit again would make you think you got shot twice. Could buy you a second to get away or into a more secure area while they process what happened.

I recently bought the 11 joule version 50cal and then considered "modding" it, but everyone I know that modded theirs out ended up having problems with it, so I think I'm just gonna leave it alone.
Besides, the power that its putting out isnt so bad, and potentially risking blowing out seals just to get a few more joules out of it isnt worth it to me.
But, to each his own, everyone has their preference.

I also have an unmodded 11j. i didn't change the guts but instead I got the two piece barel from HOme Wrecker. This was a way of improving without modding. It was easy to install and it improved the power nicely. The rubber steel rounds are amazing through it. I get easy 16+j now.
The HDR is relatively unproblematic with the mod.Also its not that expensive if it brakes to buy another.Until now I didnt have problems,just the trigger is harder to pull.Ok,its just the "normal" tuning,not the extreme things with HPA and 90joules what some people did.Just its a bit fiddling to instal the kit,but are enough videos on YT showing it.

Many of those people are also modding to an HPA setup, and generally above the standard 800 psi in a 12g CO2 cartridge. Many of them up to 1100psi.
Just knocking the valve plug out and drilling out the restrictor tends to work fine if you keep the internal PSI the standard 800. And another mod that can be added, besides a tuner barrel which works great, is the ZRam valve body extension. It basically doubles the amount of air held in the valve body.
I took my valve plug out and drilled the restrictor out to 1mm and it works great. I haven't chronied yet, but it is definitely noticeably harder hitting than stock and still running on 800psi.
And the great thing about the Umarex HDR50/TR50 line up is you can buy any part you need to replace. All the springs, bolt, screws, o-rings, valves, even the actual gun body shell if you need to replace it.
Rockstar Tactical is where I get all my Umarex spare parts.

The best analogue for human skin/flesh would be a slab of pig ribs with the skin intact. But I can understand if you don't want to do that because of expense, or worse, potential smell in the Florida heat.
On this one my friend I’ll say no. I know it makes a great target that many would enjoy watching, but I’m not crazy about the idea of shooting animal parts…

That might be your best intro yet and that's saying a lot! Always enjoy your take on these launchers. I'm not sure why the power was decreased and I wonder if that is a general issue with the Umarex air handling system.

I'm pretty sure the metal BB supposed to stay inside to keep it from wobbling after longer distances. I think the bills are too high and it's pushing the plastic at a faster rate than the metal BB can keep up so it pretty much pools the plastic from the BB and the momentum from being pulled by the plastic causing the BB to Simply follow which would definitely cause the plastic to go faster but not have as much punch. Just a theory. Also, Pig's flesh is very similar to a human's. Not to shoot a live pig or anything but you can buy a pig head or something from your butcher.

Are you shooting them backwards? Hitting the target ball first would be most effective, and prevent the separation. I totally get it though if you are firing them backwards to get the imprint!
Hmmm you really made think! But I checked the website and they were made for the writing to be in front. You’ll see in the graphics here, that the ball is actually positioned towards the writing/front. Does this silencer have any holes on it that would allow the pressure to pass through? I'm asking because I was wondering if it does increase the power in the same way a barrel extension does.
Hi Mihai, thank you and that’s a good question. No, there are no holes and I don’t think the silencer is 100% airtight - which I think compensates for the “longer barrel” effect.
I had tested shooting with and without it - and there was no major difference. Here’s the video I had made that shows that: HDR 50 SILENCER

Did you anywhere mention that the plastic part of the FU slugs and the metal ball separate when shot? You see it with the baking tray and the pumpkin. One shot, two impacts. Very odd ammo.
You mention it at the end. Still, seems super weird for them to separate. I would think it lowers the impact energy of the plastic part.

That 'double hit' is wasting all the power as the pellet flies out before it's given all the energy to the steel ball. Try shooting them backwards

Have you experimented with dieseling or oil lining the barrel?…super fast in the pellet world.

Go buy a pigskin from the meatmarket shoot it to see if it says f you, also could buy a skull to see how well it damages the skull. I don't have an hdr 50 yet but I do plan on testing it on cow skulls and pigskins when I do

Clearly it’s separating should have noticed that and redid the numbers since the weight is so much lower I’m sure it’s only reading the gold sabot that ball coming out is much much slower

What's the craze with 3D printing ? These would be so easy with just epoxy and tape 🙄
Hahaha! Well, I like the fact that slugs are made in a variety of materials. I reckon that a 3D printer gives a maker an infinite number of shapes and forms, while you’re limited by a mold otherwise. And in my experience, 3D printed always feel like solid quality.
That said, epoxy and other materials are great as well! :)

I think if you shot at a thin leather covered target you might get an impression a hunk of pig would be the closest human simulator.BMF
Good idea about the leather! Many have suggested the pig skin as well - let me see what I can do for the next time I shoot these

So what’s the max power you can get with the HDR 50 without the compressor just stock barrel maybe a threaded if it really helps
Hey Dawg! I think you’d get it up to 20j (on paper) but could easily shoot stronger shots, like mine did in this video. This gun I used has no restrictor and a shorter pin - that’s it
Yeah, I won't be using those rounds after the ̶d̶r̶e̶a̶m̶ nightmare I had:
There was a man on the witness stand at MY trial. I had accidentally hit him with a round. Didn't kill him, but hurt him enough to where the prosecutor decided to charge me for assault and battery. The prosecutor proceeded (P) to examine the witness/victim (W/V).
P - So what happened that night when you were carrying your elderly neighbor's groceries to her house?
W/V - Well that guy there, at defendant's table (me) approached me and accused me of stealing his toolbox from his garage, a few days back.
P - Did you do that?
W/V - I didn't know what the hell he was talking about.
P - What happened next?
W/P - He screamed like a banshee, saying he didn't believe me; he then pointed a GIANT gun at me. The defendant screamed at my grandmotherly neighbor: "SCRAM YOU OLD BAG, IMMEDIATELY, IF NOT SOONER!" So she fled in terror, except she was so old and frail it was like she was moving in slow motion. So he again screamed "COME ON, MOVE YOUR ASS GRANDMA, THAT'S WHY GOD GAVE YOU ONE, MOVE IT!"
P - And what happened next?
W/V - While the defendant continued to point the gun at me he got a phone call. All I could hear, because he was whispering, is: "Uh huh, so your brother took the tools from my garage." He then hung up the call. He started to lower the gun; while doing that the gun went off. He had shot me.
P - What happened after you were shot?
W/V - He said that his gun was a modified paintball gun that shoots special hard ammo, so I should be and looked OK.
P - Were you OK, unhurt?
W/V - No, I was was bleeding in one spot and about two inches from that spot I felt a severe stinging sensation, really really stinging.
P - Could you see your injuries since this was at night?
W/V - No, I could not examine my injuries until I got to my lighted bathroom.
P - So as I understand things, you had your girlfriend take a pic of the injuries, and we have that photo for the jury to see on the court's 80" HDTV screen.
[Photo is displayed on the screen.]
P - Now sir describe what this pic shows.
W/V - On the left side of my chest is a small hole with blood oozing out; from it the doctor painfully removed a large ball bearing that had pierced 1" into my chest.
And on the right side is a 2nd injury caused by what I think was a two-stage bullet.
P - Can you please state for the record what those words say.
W/V - Yeah, it says "FCUK YOU."
P - Just to be clear, those words were branded, so to speak, on your skin from a bullet the defendant shot from his gun?
W/V - Yes. And by the way, the doctors said those words are permanent scars.
[While the W/V is testifying I look at the judge, clerk, bailiff, and jurors. Everyone is looking at me, with searing deathly scowling expressions on their faces.]
Nope, I will not be using these rounds on my HDR.

Will this work with glock .50 cal or any semi auto ? Or are these rounds just for revolvers

What you really need to check out… is also the boresight laser which is a tool that helps you adjust and calibrate the lasers. (In case you didn't already know hehe) It’s such a great tool.
Here is the one I used in some of my videos, but it only fits up to .50 caliber barrels.
I should be receiving the .68 cal version by next month, which I’ll review before suggesting it.

Try a slab of Pork Belly. The nipple skin and the fat layers offer a fair representation of superficial human tissue. Plus, it should imprint better than rubber, or anything rigid.

Verissimo, la canna più lunga un po’ aiuta… però non esageratamente devo dire- del tempo fa feci dei test col chrono - con e senza silenziatore - e le velocità erano più o meno uguali… stupefacente quanto riduce il rumore però! Un gran bel pezzo di plastica!

So maybe I am just coming in a little late. You don't discuss how far you are from each object. You don't discuss if you change the CO2 after each shooting of a new product. I think it's interesting you see it the most with the metal tray that the plastic separates and hits in one area and a metal ball hits in another but I don't think you brought that up either.
Hey John, on the separation I do briefly mention it somewhere in the video. In 99.9% of my videos I specify distance and that I change CO2 before every single test. You might have caught the one video where I don’t.

A guy here told me that he changes his barrels from aluminium to steel so that the guns shoot the devastators straight as time goes on, is that a thing?
He also told me that all hdr 68s that have an F at the end of the serial number are 7,5 joules, is that correct?
He also told me that he upgrades them to 20 joules and they fire at 590 feet/second, can that be true?

Thank you for the sub my friend! Yes correct, the 7,5j has an F on the right side of the barrel. While the 16j does not.
With these guns you can change virtually everything. I’m not surprised that your friend changed to a steel barrel to fit the devastators. I’m sure he also extended it hehe a lot of people do that too.
And yes, you can modify it to 20 joules and more. Mine was modified by an “airgun wizard” in Hawaii to 30j and it’s scary! It’s a cannon!
I recommend the factory 16j if you can buy it in Romania. And leave it as it is because it’s very powerful. If not go for the 7,5 and do the modification…

@@AirgunAlley Thanks, once again very informative. Yes, he actually extended it too:) I would get the 16 joules version but then I’m thinking I’ll have to upgrade the barrel separately, I’ll just buy one from him, directly upgraded to 20 joules and with a steel barrel, makes life easier.
