- How is this soulless, bland series not in a massive sales decline? Apparently it’s still Ubisoft’s cash cow and they’re going all in on Assassin’s Creed Reskin 327.
I actually liked the series back in the Ezio days and thought they’d continue to innovate and get better, instead they’ve gone backwards. They changed formulas to copy Witcher 3 for a little bit but now that’s gotten as stale as the older games were getting.
Despite all this, people seem to buy it… maybe this game is where that changes? - Ігри

Weird how Ubisoft had previously no problems having a Norse protagonist in Valhalla, a Greek in Odyssey, a native-American in III taking place in North America etc. but now all of a sudden they want the male protagonist in feudal Japanese themed game to be black? Yes I know about the historical Yasuke, and it'd would've been cool to see him alongside his master Oda Nobunaga, like we saw Blackheard and Bonnet in Black Flag. But we all know why Ubisoft decided to make Yasuke the playable male protagonist.
there is a japanese shinobi that is a playable character in the game. you can play her instead and have your perfectly historically accurate video game that is a work or fiction.
@@TheBlademan- I don't really care at the end of the day. I have never played a single Assassin's Creed game in my life. But I do know that those games, while historically authentic in many ways, are not the most historically accurate and at times lean more towards fantasy. I think even the female shinobi's portrayal in the trailer is based more on fantasy than real history. Which is fine. Let's just not pretend we don't know why suddenly Ubisoft decided to make Yasuke, a real historical character, the playable male protagonist in this Assassins' Creed game while in every other previous installment they were original fictional characters. They're just using Yasuke as a shield from criticism calling them out for their obvious wokeness and rewriting of history. They're doing this due to their new DEI requirements and for that sweet Backrock or Vanguard funding.
I don't know about you but when I think about a samurai I think of a Japanese man, like iconic actor Toshiro Mifune, in samurai armor. Not a black man (whom we're not sure if he ever even reached the rank of a samurai in real history. Lots of debate about that.) I'd be curious to hear what the Japanese think about this. I think Ubisoft should've just made Yasuke an NPC you can interact with, like Socrates, Blackbeard, Cleopatra etc. in previous games.
@@Simppu1410 Yasuke was not an actual samurai either and was still a servant to Nobunaga even after being "freed".
@@m16dude967 I just watched Metatraon's reaction video of the trailer and he told us what little we do know about Yasuke and what we don't know for certain is whether he was ever given an official title of samurai. Mostly because the word 'samurai' was not really used yet, so the word doesn't appear in many of the documents written back then and instead records say that Yasuke was made into a "bushi", which did not always refer to their equivalent of "samurai" because it's a much broader term. It certainly didn't mean a mere slave. It's better you check out the video yourself but that's the gist of it.

@@raskolnikov6443 They use brand power to remarket their product for mass appeal. That's what has kept this going. Notice everything they've been doing is, what? Spartans, Vikings, Ninjas, Samurai... it's incredibly one dimensional.
It's casuals that love slop. The same crowd plays slop like FIFA, CoD, Diablo 4, etc. The casual market is huge, which is why we are seeing most AAA companies cater to casuals. It is also why we are in an indie golden age, as indie companies are catering to actual gamers.

I did research on Yasuke and he's literally a slave that was in a trade ship and a samurai noticed his physical stature and gave him armor and a weapon to use and fought alongside Oda Nobunaga once or a few times and Yasuke was traded to another country after Nobunaga passed. He's just a very minor person in history thats not even a samurai at all, but just a random guy from Africa that got to fight with a real samurai and left lol. Yasuke has been a over exaggerated character that has done nothing significant in history.
He may not have done anything "significant" in history. But you have to admit: his life is one hell of a story. Not that he'd make the right character for Japanese themed Assassin's Creed game, though.

@@Simppu1410 Not really. Every society has these type of stories and they almost always play out exactly the same. Ubisoft is trying to make a footnote in history into a game and they're going to change so much about the character to fit him in because there is no other way to.
@@m16dude967 Just because every society has stories like that doesn't make them any less fascinating or entertaining to me. I like "fish out the barrel" kind of stories where a person gets to some distant and vastly different land in some way (whether it's an European getting to Japan or vice versa) and experiences a culture shock and learns to adapt to and even respect it.
But that's not the main reason why Ubisoft decided to make Yasuke one of the playable protagonists in this game. It's to check diversity boxes and get ESG funding because they have to get all the money that they can get. And of course they're going to change history and not give us an ending where Yasuke is given back to the Portuguese Jesuits like he was in real history after Nobunaga's death.
Ive been waiting atleast 10 years for them to finally go to Japan. I love 100% the AC games, the map icons feel so rewarding to clear! Played about 300 hours in Valhalla (expansions but not the Ragnarok spin off). Not many video games capture world history in such detail.
Im also autistic, sometimes I wonder if thats why I like these games that most normies are sick of playing

Your criticism for Yauske's inclusion is invalid. There's a whole other Japanese protagonist, plus his ambiguous past leaves room for the writers to play with history involving the Assassins. Lame asf
The worst thing about the game is definitely the battle pass and always online shit. If it ends up being a good game I can look past the black man and mary sue protagoniats but I can't look past not owning a game I payed $110 for, or paying every month or whatever for boring repeatable quests and cosmetic rewards, fuck all that.

I think it’s refreshing to introduce a new character that is both unique and symbolic of how diverse strong heroes can look.
Bigotry and wanton discrimination are being normalized. Too many negative voices are showing up oppressing diverse depictions of characters in video games and movies. It’s not 1980s or 90s or early 00s, where Caucasian characters dominated the multimedia landscape, it’s 2024. The media we consume should reflect how diverse we are. No one complained when Tom Cruise was the last samurai. No one said a word when Nioh made a huge splash with a white blonde haired blue eyed white Irish guy. It’s only when a poc is appropriating another culture is when the bigots cry out. Well tough! You had your turn. It’s ours now.
At least the female is Japanese. No one is saying anything about her. It shouldn’t be about color. Give the game a chance. Reserve judgment after you’ve played the game.

With you saying that if you play one ac you have played them all, what then with racing games, cod, battlefield, sports games? And as someone else said in the comments who else makes games that set you in those time periods. And if you have played no games with battle passes then you have played very few games over the last few years.

Personally as a person who has played every single AC multiple times…..I’m super excited…and cannot wait. The haters out there are just ridiculous.
Another assassin´s creed game like we have not play 20 of them already . Another game that it will practically be the same as the 20 games before it . At this point ubisoft is where creativity goes to die .
Let's face it, Ubisoft has a great model for making Assassin's Creed profitable. Within a few months of release, they consistently have deals that bring their games down to 50-70% off. So they keep their sales numbers high by discounting their games, and they profit off of DLC they sell within it.
It feels like ubisoft starts the next far cry game or assassins creed while they are not even done the game they are making i can guarantee you they are worked to the bone and exhausted and are forced behind the scenes to work on a sequel to a sequel... I mean it feels like assassins creed mirage didn't even release to long ago. Xbox on the other hand we have been waiting over 10 + even more years for a new Gears of war a new Fallout game a New Fable game a New actually praised Halo Game and state of decay 3 and other passionate projects like outer worlds 2 or Avowed and for there games they wont have these games out for 6 -7 years how did xbox buy these studios give them creative freedom realized how long these releases keep taking and they are expected to make there money back instantly instead they wanted games made now that have in game stores and microtransactions give us single player games alot of people hate all over starfield but atleast it was a broken single player experience one we rarely ever get nowadays.

Yasuke is being elevated into something that he never remotely was. Unlike most Japanese, Nobunaga was almost a xenophile. He actually liked the West. Yasuke was Nobunga's novelty that he paid to keep around. What his specific job was is unclear. Maybe he was a bodyguard. Likely he was like Paris Hilton's little dog, something to be seen with. Where do you find a 6 foot black man in Japan at that time? Quite a novelty. But samurai? I don't think so.
It's like sports games. Every year there new MADDEN/FIFA, every year it's same, every year people buying them, and every year they are playing silently, while we wondering "who are this people?"

The only good this game did was to have edit wars in Wikipedia regarding Yasuke.
The guy became a fully fledged Samurai in less than 15 months (the short time he served Nobunaga) according to all the morons now defending the approved narrative lol. Also the word retainer is now supposedly just a synonym for Samurai, meaning every retainer was a Samurai (which is blatant nonsense). Now you can make a case that he was respected and you also can make the case that he was kept around as a novelty. But to pretend that he was this great samurai and this great and famous warrior is just bs. These people and journalists (those aren’t people tbh) can not be trusted with anything. They will bend actual history as they please in order to defend a freaking video game….

There are so many reasons NOT to buy so-called triple-A games any more - starting with the worst: (1) Online requirement for single-player (2) DEI/Politics infestation (3) Over-priced/un-optimised (4) Micro-transactions (5) [coming soon] Un-skippable in-game adverts.
And they're getting expensive with $70 being the 'entry fee' but if you want the whole game that'll be $130+ dollarenoos please!

The reasons these games sell is the same reason games like World of Warcraft and Overwatch are still going: sunk cost fallacy. Sunk cost doesn't just refer to the money you sink in. People are emotionally invested in the world and characters.

I've forsaken Bugisoft games about 10 years ago, I just got a PS3 (Argentinian, don't judge me) and I was super hyped about Watch Dogs, a game that got delayed to not release alongside GTA 5 (I was foolish) and I played that and even then 16 year old me knew it was a bad game, since then I've held onto this bitterness and guess what I missed in 10 years? Black Flag, in 10 years the only things one can say I missed is black flag. This? This is just the latest in a content mill of AAAA wonderslop that you'll be charged noventa (90) Canadian Pesos and up to 150 to play.
Even as bad faith as I am for Ubisoft, I have to acknowledge, their community has been asking for a Japanese based game for since AC was a thing. Even when unshackled from the Ezio family they didn't do it. And now? Now it's just the Mr. Krabs meme "will I defile and soil the image of Yosuke for money?????" The answer is categorically yes. Of all people, Ubisoft will defile this for money and fumble the ball at every turn.
Ubisoft now: a black Samurai (even though samurai isn't a position you can earn, is pretty much a warrior class you're inducted into and a foreigner wouldn't be allowed into it).
But now imagine this for a set up as Ubisoft would have done it back then: the missionaries brought with them a black man, one of his handlers died and gives him the mission to oppose the templars in Japan and forward the cause of the brotherhood, Yosuke uses samurai swords, tools and weaponry because it's available. In it he meets with a Japanese woman who's opposing the templars out of distrust and will of her masters and shinobi and kunoichi (ninja) do since they're merely mercenaries, in it they finds a fruit of eden and it gives her the Assassin's abilities in order for her to be the one to bring about the future of the brotherhood in the land of the raising sun.
Black flag was the last AC game I enjoyed. I stay away from anything Ubisoft these days. They don’t deserve even a cent of my money.
Haven't bought anything from Ubislop since they rereleased Blood Dragon on PS4. Gonna keep this going for the foreseeable future. Saving money for KCD2, Space Marine 2, and Stalker 2. Hoping none of those are DEI/ESG boring slop.
Ubislop can go out of business, they stopped being good after the 7th gen. Truly hoping that Splinter Cell Remake is dead. Hate to see that franchise get ruined like everything else Ubislop touches now.
Yeah battle passes are all about, quoting EA executives, "a feeling of pride and accomplishment" by paying for something AND then having to grind to get it. It ensures you log on to play every day, raising engagement stats and exposing you to the microtransaction store each time. It's a win-win for the publisher ....if you don't grind, they get your money for free. If you do grind they get to boast about player numbers to their investors and they get to advertise more purchasable content to you. They're a scam.
