"It's a fucking stupid messed up world. I've got my God, he speaks to me every day. Some things I can't work out, so I leave them be. Okay? Even if I think they're wrong, because I know on day he'll make me understand. I've got that trust. It's called belief. I'm a lucky man."
Anwar's father's lines were written very well. The writers did not completely take him out from his conservative upbringing that's why he said that he lets things be even if he considers them wrong. This shows that there are many among us who are still a bit conservative on their views of society but they are not intolerant. There are many who label these people but they have to understand that it's not easy for people to forget everything they have learnt since childhood. Most of them are trying to understand but it will take some time. With coming years, hopefully, there will be more of them who will understand the pov of others.
Abosuly spot on. As a half Mauritian, teacher of many cultures and background, games developer, who has been exposed to many cultures and beliefs, ways of thinking, ideals and codes, you have literally summed this up to a T. This guy agrees
This is such a beautiful, well done scene. They perfectly showed that someone can be both faithful and conservative, whilst also being respectful and not discriminating. The lines are so powerful without being at all over done. One of my favourite (if not the favourite) scenes in the show
Unfamiliar with the actor, but his expression at 1:18 is so perfectly delivered. Because for a brief moment you see a harsh look, but then it seamlessly becomes one of concern--because he sees someone he cares about in anguish. And rather than judge, you see a man who counsels and cares. It's a wonderful bit of acting.
This scene was so important for a young me. Even if my family is supportive and didn’t care about things like this, seeing someone who didn’t agree with homosexuality but still decided to support Maxie because they cared about him just helped me come to terms with who I was in such a big way. It helped me realize that their are people who will use their religion and their uncertainty to take things to the next level, but their are also incredibly kind people who don’t understand or accept things but they would still support the people they care about. I remember first seeing this scene and being so shocked that his Anwars Dad supported him, and it also made me realize that some people just believe in things because they think they should.
Is it weird that I was 40 years old watching skins and getting all teary eyed over scenes like this one? It was such a good show, particularly in those first two seasons. Great writing and good actors who have proven themselves more since.
Sunny he said angry religious zealots which encompasses every religion you moron. Read the damn comment before you throw around the “OMG so racist” shit. You say he’s ignorant and yet you didn’t even take the time to read the whole comment before you threw in your ow so valuable opinion. Smh.
@@glowing571 to accept homesexuality could for some people be against their religion. but the point is that he trusts his god to judge instead of himself, and he can understand that his views truly don't matter, as maxxie is a good person, and he trusts that despite seeing his sexuality as a flaw in the eyes of god, everybody has their issues, no one is perfect. obviously there is nothing wrong with being gay, but to say that some religious people should just set it aside almost says there is something wrong with the religion. the same way maxxie sees that Anwar's dad is a homophobe, yet also accepts him as a good person.
So incredibly written. I personally believe in God. No, wait, i KNOW God. Not in a religious way. But in a HOLY spiritual way-- the holiness, the wholeness, the Oneness of God. And i love that Anwar's dad actually UNDERSTANDS what faith is. Faith is not about what is wrong or right. It aint about his humanly opinion on homosexuality. His opinion doesnt matter in the long run, is what Anwar's dad is saying. ❤ Because his unwavering Faith in God is essentially about HIS path to righteousness. Believing AND knowing God means that we should welcome LEARNING with grace. Hence, God's grace. And sometimes, learning means being patient with our own ignorance. So yes, there are people who are AFFLICTED by what Anwar's dad call as his "thinking" that "homosexuality is wrong." But THAT thinking is NOT infallible, meaning God will always find a way to righteousness-- that's how I understand this scene anyway. God's grace!!! ❤ Anwar's dad is basically saying, "who am I to tell you that your sexuality is wrong? I don't know anything about anything but God's everlasting love, which will lead me to righteousness if only i am patient with understanding myself and those around me. THAT is God's grace". He has Faith that even though he has an affliction (i.e. he "thinks" homosexuality is wrong), he also has Faith that God is all around us, even in Maxxie. He has faith that God will make him understand Maxxie's own affliction AS HIS OWN, because again GOD IS GRACEFUL. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Have a blessed day.
As a Christian, some things are difficult to understand. And it can be hard when people ask me about what I think about homosexuality, because I honestly don't know how to answer. That's one of the reasons I love this quote. Anwar's dad doesn't totally get why it's so wrong either, but he trusts in God, and trusts that there is some reason, even if he doesn't know what it is.
Just started watching this show . My best friends family of almost 20 years is from Iran . they definitely had their beliefs and I was pretty obviously gay. But I was always welcome In their home . Invited to every family event ( some of the best I have ever been to ) fed and welcome to spend the night. I always treated her ( their daughter / my best friend ) with respect and made sure when we went out together she got home safe . We don’t have to agree on everything but they trusted me with with their gem of a daughter and in return I got a safe place to make many great memories.
It's this kind of thought that needs to be pushed more. You cant get everyone to change their views completely some people will always think the way other people live is wrong or weird. Some will just never be able to understand the reality of others but we can be tolerant and kind to each other. You live your life they way you see fit, you dont hurt people with what you do or make lives harder for people you do you. were human and we all need compassion, love and mutual respect. we all just really want to be happy at the end of the day.
This is exactly how I view gay people. They exist for some reason that I don't understand. We were only told that gay is wrong but we were not told to hate them. Some people just didn't get it.
I've always wished I could have that kind of belief, like my dad's side of the family but there's also my pesky aversion to organised religion. I would identify as a lapsed agnostic.
I love the writing of this scene. So evenly handed and sensitive, without targeting anyone. Well done Skins.

This and Jal's speech at Chris funeral get me every time.
I'm Muslim and somehow this touches me more than anything else.

Other kids: *come out to their parents*
Maxxie: *comes out to his best friend's parents*
I just love that when Anwar’s father said, “whatever he did, forgive him”, He wasn’t bluffing
My favorite scene.
I miss Maxxie and Anwar
i absolutely love this scene. the way anwars dad reacts is just so perfect.
Angry Muslims could learn a lot from this video. Angry religious zealots full stop
Twiglet as a Muslim I agree, nobody should judge anyone for anything

I 100% agree with the statement that we should not judge. As a Muslim it is 1 of the most important things

One of the best scenes of the show. Shows that we aren't all screwed no matter where we come from.
Makes me cry everytime. Acceptance is key in life. We are what we are. What we choose to do is our own. No other need judge.

Such a gorgeous scene 😍
No teen show ever better than original cast Skins (runner up My So Called Life) and no cooler dad than Anwar's.

I think gay people can be Christian but Maxie was a good honest actor it must of been hard to play a gay person but we all.had a laugh
Maxie was great love the dancing where is he now
Best coming of age show of all time
They would be too scared to do this scene today.
And if they did they would pretend it wasn't a problem for the dad at all.
