This video has inspired me to readdress some ideas that I had become exposed to in my Liberation Theology class back in the late 1980s. There was this powerful idea of "praxis" of theology through intersecting with our current historical placement in this world and the ideals that we are attempting to live. We experience this praxis through reflecting, dialoging and acting with our both our ideals and our reality held in creative tension. These thoughts back then got me really stoked! Thanks for reminded me to look at them again 40 years later. I think maybe with all the dramas and challenges going on this might be useful way of approaching some of them in a constructive fashion. Thanks again.

Yes, praxis is definitely not something unique to or originated by liberation theology

Really enjoy these videos and this one in particular. Many people probably know these philosophers and their ideas, but these videos are often my first exposure to them. Thank you.

11:50 Is this because we may see past, present or future as we engage with others?

You'll have to be more clear about what you're asking

@@GregoryBSadler I mean when we have a dialogue with self is this the result of having a taste of past, present and future that was suggested to us through the dialogue with others?

Do you think philosophy, as a way of life, is made more difficult in modern times? When we study philosophy academically, does the influence of deadlines, lots of assigned material and identifying the basic argumentative structures interfere with the process of engaging in philosophy as a way of life?
It seems to me that studying in an academic setting, especially with younger adults, it seems more like people are studying the history of ideas, rather than cultivating oneself and ones own ideas for the most part.
Also, since it seems like there may be even more value in living this kind of philosophical life in contemporary times due to increased majority influences over our values and actions, and the manipulation of our passions by companies and governments etc, how can we cultivate this kind of practical philosophy and live a philosophical life?
(Many kinds of spiritual exercises are implicit in the academic process, reading, thorough investigation, listening, research, accomplishment of duties. But how can we encourage the full self-transformative experience? since it seems to depend a lot on individual. Plus it’s difficult to keep track of spiritual growth and progress, especially when you’re future focused, on deadlines, careers, finances, and the rest.)
Loved the videos, and I’d love to hear more from you on this.

@@GregoryBSadler why do you think philosophy today has a tendency towards abstract theorising and analytical philosophy?

@@Acechao111 There's all sorts of reasons for that. Why not read the Hadot to get some of them?

@@GregoryBSadler I will do. I’m on my way through philosophy as a way of life right now.
