Allan is a master singer songwriter, we had the pleasure of recording at Pier House about 1990, this is where i first heard Allan Taylor, as the sound engineer Ian Beveridge had the Lines CD. We played it constantly and it inspired us. This Performance is superb, well recorded and played.
I feel like this song depicts a soldier who died somewhere faraway from his beloved wife, mother or daughter. His spirit came to visit them one last time, and he found peace before hopping on the highway to heaven.
Allan is a wonderful story teller as is the tradition in folk music, but also, of course a master wordsmith and musician (he has a music PhD!). Unbeatable!
I'm going home I'm going home My bags are packed and stored And it's time to climb on board 'Cause I'm going home I'm going home I'm going home My bags are packed and stored And it's time to climb on board 'Cause I'm going home Kiss me goodbye Kiss me goodbye I know you're going to miss me So take this chance and kiss me Kiss me goodbye Darling, won't you think of me Darling, won't you think of me When you're all alone at night Remember how I used to hold you tight So darling won't you think of me I'm going home I'm going home My bags are packed and stored And it's time to climb on board 'Cause I'm going home Wipe the tear from your eye Wipe the tear from your eye I know you're going to grieve But everybody has to leave So wipe that tear from your eye Hang my picture on your wall Hang my picture on your wall So someday you can say He chanced upon my way So hang my picture on your wall I'm going home I'm going home My bags are packed and stored And it's time to climb on board 'Cause I'm going home My road has been hard and long My road has been hard and long I'll sing my travelling song As the highway calls me on 'Cause my road has been hard and long Hear my voice on the wind Hear my voice on the wind A haunting melody Bringing memories of me When you hear my voice on the wind I'm going home I'm going home My bags are packed and stored And it's time to climb on board 'Cause I'm going home I'm going home I'm going home My bags are packed and stored And it's time to climb on board 'Cause I'm going home 'Cause I'm going home
You are bloody amazing your Guitar playing is excellent so wish I could play , Just read in the Parish Magazine your coming soon gonna try and Make it.
Hey Allan Taylor, Great song and lovely easy playing. You manage to sound as if you have all the time in the world. That is a real gift! I have just learned so much from this video! Any chance you might play and explain Los Companeros like this? ( you may not remember me but I bored the ar*e of you at the folk club in Preston a few years ago telling you about my friend who identifies so much with Los Companeros! We also traveled from Ireland to see you in Glasgow a wee while ago (2 years ago) but you went off sick so we went to a comedy club instead! lol, hope to see you again soon!
Hi Tony, Thanks for your kind words, and making the effort to come to the gigs from so far away. If you come to another gig, come up and say hello and in the break I’ll show you the Los Companeros riff! Thanks, Allan
How come there are not even 500 likes after ten years?

Si no fuera por UA-cam, nunca hubiera podido disfrutar de tan excelente música.
En Latinoamérica, no se le conoce a Allan Taylor.
Brilliant song - saw Allan play this at Black Swan Folk Club early February 2016. Excellent concert.

I'm going home
I'm going home
My bags are packed and stored
And it's time to climb on board
'Cause I'm going home
I'm going home
I'm going home
My bags are packed and stored
And it's time to climb on board
'Cause I'm going home
Kiss me goodbye
Kiss me goodbye
I know you're going to miss me
So take this chance and kiss me
Kiss me goodbye
Darling, won't you think of me
Darling, won't you think of me
When you're all alone at night
Remember how I used to hold you tight
So darling won't you think of me
I'm going home
I'm going home
My bags are packed and stored
And it's time to climb on board
'Cause I'm going home
Wipe the tear from your eye
Wipe the tear from your eye
I know you're going to grieve
But everybody has to leave
So wipe that tear from your eye
Hang my picture on your wall
Hang my picture on your wall
So someday you can say
He chanced upon my way
So hang my picture on your wall
I'm going home
I'm going home
My bags are packed and stored
And it's time to climb on board
'Cause I'm going home
My road has been hard and long
My road has been hard and long
I'll sing my travelling song
As the highway calls me on
'Cause my road has been hard and long
Hear my voice on the wind
Hear my voice on the wind
A haunting melody
Bringing memories of me
When you hear my voice on the wind
I'm going home
I'm going home
My bags are packed and stored
And it's time to climb on board
'Cause I'm going home
I'm going home
I'm going home
My bags are packed and stored
And it's time to climb on board
'Cause I'm going home
'Cause I'm going home

I love this beautiful song. Allan is a great songwriter, always fine stories to tell us.
what type of guitar is this? It has a lovely sound!!!
Looks like a Martin D18 with double pick Guards.
What's the tension of the strings? 0.10?
Awesome singing and playing Allan ! The are you coming to Belgium ?
