Thanks MtgMcQuacks, yeah for certain there's no way I was not going to have a great time! Playing Old School all day with lots of other excited people? No fail situation there :)
I just studied your deck over at Eternal Central's GP Vegas coverage article (www.eternalcentral.com/gp-vegas-cfb-old-school-93-94-coverage-and-results/). For an Old School noob like me it's super interesting to see your deck in action. Please more of this, it's much appreciated :)
Pro tip for ya Edwin: Chaos Orb does not target. So you just say "Activate Orb." and that's his window to Disenchant it. Once you choose your "target", it's too late.
Hi Laurence, actually it does. It works exactly as I used it. Old School has special errata for it. www.eternalcentral.com/9394rules/ Specifically this... "Chaos Orb 2 Artifact 1, Tap: Choose a nontoken permanent on the battlefield. If Chaos Orb is on the battlefield, flip Chaos Orb onto the battlefield from a height of at least one foot. If Chaos Orb turns over completely at least once during the flip, and lands resting on the chosen permanent, destroy that permanent. Then destroy Chaos Orb. (Note: because of how Chaos Orb is worded, with it being destroyed after a flip, it can still be Disenchanted or Shattered in response to the activation. This is consistent with the wording of Chaos Orb not being sacrificed upon activation, as it probably would with modern templating.)"
When an ability targets something, it specifically uses the word "target". The relevant parts of the comp rules are : 114.1. Some spells and abilities require their controller to choose one or more targets for them. The targets are object(s), player(s), and/or zone(s) the spell or ability will affect. These targets are declared as part of the process of putting the spell or ability on the stack. The targets can’t be changed except by another spell or ability that explicitly says it can do so. 114.1c An activated ability is targeted if it identifies something it will affect by using the phrase “target [something],” where the “something”is a phrase that describes an object, player, or zone. The target(s) are chosen as the ability is activated; see rule 602.2b.
laurence boubou dude, you are getting hung up on WoTC verbiage. Remember that Old School players and not WoTC wrote this errata. Again... read the first line of the player-made errata... 1, Tap: Choose a nontoken permanent on the battlefield. Thats picking a target. Sure, perhaps they should have used that word. But we all know how it works
Haha ok yea I can see how citing the comp rules in this particular instance might not constitute a full proof...proof. Then ask around. Personally I learned this rule from Dave Firth Bard, the organizer of the Summer Derby Skype tournament you are currently in.
DFB is a gem in the Old School Community. Most certainly a great player and very knowledgeable. He most definitely has my respect. On this one topic I'm quite certain he's wrong. Everybody at GP Vegas Championship was playing the Chaos Orb the same way... they tap, activate, tell you which card of yours they are targeting... and attempt to land the orb on it.
I expected a lot of The Deck with main board REB at this event. As a result I opted not to play Stasis against a field that was pre-sideboarded against me.
10/4/2004 You can’t interfere in any physical way with activating this ability. gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=603 I'm no judge, but I'm pretty sure punching counts as interference.
The best part about this video is seeing how much fun you're having. Thanks for sharing the game with us!

Edwin's game face is SERIOUS!!!!!

He's goes from being the nicest guy ever to a STONE COLD KILLER once he sits down at a table!
Especially with that RUGCrazies Old School deck lol
This is great stuff! Keep 'em coming, Edwin! :)
Sure thing Timothy. I really love your positive attitude all the time.
Oh, this was FUN to watch! The guy seemed genuinely surprised he won game 1! LOL
This is awesome, thanks for uploading it. :D
Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Lol i played with that guy in the black shirt in the EDH tournament.

Had fun watching this! looks like it was a blast.
It was indeed! I'm sorry we didn't get to play Raaanch, but it was great seeing you.
There will be more opportunities :)
Didn't watch the match yet, but lol at that guy clapping when they announced your name. He looked sooo thrilled for you. Haha
That was my long time MTG buddy and rival Jason Murry, whom ended up winning the event. We have been squaring off for 23 years LOL
Edwin the Magic Engineer haha thanks for the background info. I figured it was someone you knew. Did you give him the same clap when he won?
Chris Perciavalle naw... i gave him a handshake, a fist bump and a hug with a backslap
Sweet more gameplay, also congrats on top 8 and Second place!
Thanks man

Question: Why did the judge check your sideboards? He was just personally curious, or it had something to do with the game?
oh no, Edwin, you spoiled the whole finals!!! Will watch them regardless though ;)
Sorry about that, I thought the results were already pretty spoiled all over FB
fantasia Ed :) congratulations
Thanks man
BTW: Surprised you didn't play your Stasis deck in the Old School tourney.
I expected a lot of The Deck with main board REB at this event. As a result I opted not to play Stasis against a field that was pre-sideboarded against me.
Wait, you aren't allowed to blow on the chaos orb being flipped?
That would be cheating yeah
I don't remember anywhere in the rules that said you can't
Christopher Castle it also does not say you cant punch them in face right before they flip it. Why dont you just try that? Good luck!

@ETME, let me try that with my brother haha!
Sideboard check? GTFO this is OldSchool, casual and for fun, go judge them kids playing modern.
Yes I know it was "sanctioned", anyway.
LOL I know right?
